Solar power and electric cars have so far been dependent on government subsidies to be competitive with fossil fuels.
The focus should be on global depopulation which would solve most of the world's problems. Unfortunately, they are focusing on WHITE depopulation and increasing the population of the other races which will have dire consequences.

Nice - wouldn't want you to actually save any money on power would we?

When I bought my house here in S FL, I started getting a ton of those flyers in the mail that comes every time a house is sold or bought.  You know, the gutter cleaning, painting, concrete rework, etc..   One of the ones that actually showed up at my door was from a solar panel company.  This is basically what they told me during that brief conversation.

The average person sees a 50% reduction in their electric bill.  Because my house is on the Intracoastal and there are no high rise structures between it and the beach 1/4 mile away, I would most likely see my electric bill eliminated completely.  And if there was additional energy that went back to the grid, I would receive a check for it.  The entire setup was about $70,000 but there were plenty of gov't grants and sponsored subsidies that would bring it down to where I only had to pay about $10,000 out of pocket.  The solar panels had their own warranty and insurance so that it would not affect any premium I had on my home already.

Sounds good?   Well I said I would think about it and started asking around and people from work had gotten theirs done in the past.  From talks with various people, the general consensus was that :

It does reduce your electric bill.  But not totally.  The few times that extra energy was brought back, the electric company didn't send you a check, they instead issued a credit for future use.  If your home is the only one (or two) around in the section that has solar panels, then you will see a remarkable reduction in your electric bill.   The more homes that have them, the less you will see.  Even though the extra homes are generating their power, often enough to supply the grid, you don't see that much of a savings anymore.  A medium size neighborhood (HOA) may see a 20% reduction each month.  It would be more than that but as stated by the OP, they actually raise the price of the utility if you have solar panels.  It's a gouge, but they are not going to let you get anything for free.  Today it is just not worth it to go the solar panel route.

That being said, I did have 2 solar panels installed that are strictly for my pool.  They power nothing else but the pool and it's components.  Heater, vacuum, jets, etc..    This probably saves me $100 a month on electricity fees.

TL;DR - solar panels and their benefits are being restricted and regulated so they don't reach full potential.

Some good info, Lurker.

You can't trust the bs the solar saleman tells you.

The power company has to maintain its facilities and service and continue to run its generators even though more and more people have solar panels.

Since panels only produce during sunshine, the grid is still required at night or on cloudy days.

The power utility needs money to maintain itself so it can only go so far in crediting solar to customers.

Solar is expensive to install.  Once grid credits are reduced the payback goes even farther out into the future.

A point is reached where you are just on a hamster wheel of payback and then buying a new system.

If cost can come way down then it can make sense.

Yep, this.

EU already banned 8k TVs due to power consumption levels.

The budgets I have for next year all have more volume which is at odds to the 2030 emissions target. All consumer businesses will be the same.

The only way we can drop consumption by 50% in 6yrs is by extreme shortages. Prices will rise but what we likely see is all the cheap shit starts to vanish. Consumer business will allocate precious resources to our high end profitable products to keep the machine moving and sacrifice the low margin, high volume products.

4B dead in 6yrs? I doubt it.

Climate lockdown around 2027 perhaps.

Apparently we are about to have a huge steel shortage.

Our kWh price is USD0.24
Our feed in tariff is USD0.03

On a sunny day I’ll sell USD7 into the grid and buy USD1.30 if we don’t use aircon or the oven at night.

It turns out the oven chews as much as the aircon.

Typical electric oven uses around 3000watts...But typically you only run an oven under an hour a day...HVAC is significantly more on the whole.

I have state of the art solar setups on two rental properties in New Mexico, areas that get 300+ days of full sun a year.

On average i save $17 per month on each houses electric bill.

Really depends on how many panels you have.

And don't forget the cost to replace them every 8 years.

They will never pay for themselves.

If it weren't for the rebates i got it would have been better to light money on fire.

Nobody ever brags how they recouped the money they spent on installation or their monthly lease.  It's always a loss of money no matter how you spin it.  Then replacing the system when it's not working after 20 years is another headache. Call up the solar panel company when you need a new roof for removal and reinstallation. I don't care what's in that contract they are not coming back.

Tech upgrades to match the rest of the system.

You need to replace the batteries, inverter and wall every 6-8 years, and it would be silly not to upgrade the panels to match the new system.

That is, if you want to get the max out of the system.

My peak day generation has been 235kwh. This month 5.3 mega watts generated.

Pool filter and 26kw heat pump consume 6kwh. I turn that on at 730am.

Air conditioning consumes 3kwh. By 745am I can add it on top of the pool.

I shut the pool off at 6pm. Aircon shut off around 7pm.

During the day it peaks at 29.8kwh.

Our annual energy bill was USD4.5k/yr pre pool and solar. Solar covers 90% and the feed in tariff gives more credit so my bills right now are $0. Adding a pool and heat pump I’d imagine USD6k/yr pretty reasonable.

So for me it’ll be about 2.5yrs to have covered it completely.

Wait are you saying that with solar your electric bill is still $500 a month - $6K a year?

Mayday has a huge system which he got very inexpensively.

90 x 400 watt panels.

Mayday,
How did you get such a large system so cheaply?
Is it very cheap in Australia?

Why do you invest money in a system with so little payback?  $17/mo x 2.

I have 3 panels that measure 3'x4'.  But then again, as I said, these panels power nothing but my pool system.  Heater, filter, pump, lights, etc...  It is adequate and really makes the pool expense free each month.  BUT.... translating that into a much bigger structure just doesn't translate for me no matter how many panels are installed.

Is it very cheap in Australia?

Australia is a more expensive market globally. We have a USD3.5k govt rebate on solar at the moment which helps.

It’s the brand of gear which causes the prices to be so high. The typical LG and Panasonic stuff have a 4x premium but have the same failure rates as the cheap stuff. Get cheap stuff.

But it’s not just price:
I have a very large roof of which the roofline design was a consideration for future solar
I have panels placed on 3 areas to max sun hour exposure
Industry standard is 3-5kwh x kw = sunny day rate.   I am at 6kwh

Placement efficiency is entirely skipped by the industry and home owners.

That's amazing you should totally post this on your blog.
