Never had any removed..of four. One upper came 2/3 way out later in life and was some pain at that point but has not been an issue since. If they are impacted and getting inflammation they may suggest removing. If you have room in the jaw and the pain goes away after they break through I would leave them.

I had two remowed from upper jaw. Local numbing and they just tear it off. Mine came off easy.
Tota 10min max in a chair.
Heard that lower jaw is more problematic because it is loose and therefore more difficult to pry those teeth off.

Quite common in where I live to remove those if they cause any problems and without problems

Somebodys cousins friend had always had all the bad things happen in operation. Crumbling tooth, endless bleeding, 2 hrs to finnish, lack of pain meds… But yes. Rarely.

Had all 4 removed 25 years ago. Took Vicodin and drank a beer every couple hours and went back to sleep for 2 days. No pain, no problems. You will really feel a relief of not having that pressure pushing against your other teeth anymore.

Upper ones came in fine, right side lower came in with little fanfare, but lower left was a beast. It took a few years to finally seat itself ok, with somewhat painful bouts of inflammation a couple of times a year for 4-5 years maybe. It was annoying, but not horrible, and I think one of the reasons I never sat down and made an appointment to pull it, was that it sort became a battle of me vs the tooth that was as amusing as it was annoying.

Had mine removed at 20 and 21. Two each summer coming home from college. I didn’t do it with anesthesia just novocaine and they pulled them out. Got a dry socket, didn’t realize that’s what it was and just didn’t want to be a pussy but when I went back for my follow up, the dentist said “did you have a lot of pain? You’ve got a dry socket.” Didn’t have any adverse effects, went out both nights afterwards and drank with my buddies. I got home from the procedure and was hungry and started making a sandwich and saw water dripping on the bread and was thinking, “where the fuck is that coming from?” And quickly realized I was drooling due to the novocaine. After one of the procedures I had some pieces of bone fragment “float up” and make their way out of my gums. The dentist said it was pieces of the “cup” on the jawbone that held the teeth in. Weird.

Had them all taken out when I was 18 as they got infected.  Just novocaine also.  Kind of a wild experience.

I've had fillings without novacaine in the past.

The pressure when the guy was pulling them out was something.  No pain though.  Still, some who are squeamish would probably freak.

I have a high tolerance to pain and unpleasantness.

My kids had theirs taken out in elementary school before getting braces to make room and prevent them from ruining the orthodontia.

Kids were anesthetized.  We paid more to get this really good oral surgeon.  He was excellent.

Insurance covered only about 1/4 of the cost.

If you need it done you get it done.

Fuck dude - why are you askin people for experiences before you get your wisdom teeth out? That's not going to help.

I had two removed when i was poor student. Went to the local dental school because it was free - didn't realise they see anyone as fresh meat to practice on. I actually just went to enquire and was told they could fit me in in an hour.

Head dentist was a psychopathic bitch. Shot me up with local and then started pulling teeth straight away. I jerked my head back from the pain, she gripped the forceps or pliers or whatever she used more tightly and my tooth exploded in my head. I remember her yelling to the surrounding students "Hold him down! Hold him down!"

She announces to the students that this is a great opportunity to observe surgery. She started a small saw, told me there was a 10% chance of severing the facial nerve which would cause paralysis to half my face and started cutting through my gum to get to the remains of my tooth. I felt that too but thankfully the anaesthesia was beginning to kick in.

Don't remember the second one coming out.

A day later my girlfriend called an ambulance because I was delirious and running a very high fever. The ambos came, took my temp, put the siren on and whisked me off to hospital where I was diagnosed with sever Streptococcus and monitored for sepsis. The probable cause was unsterlised instruments used to take my teeth out, and lack of surgical care.

I had my other two removed about 15 years after this with no issues at all, so my advice - don't be a poor student.

Had mine taken out at 18.  Was not having any problems with them, just had it done then as a precaution.

They put me to sleep.  It was fairly fast.  My appointment was at 8am, I got there 7:45am, filled out paperwork, went back at 8am.   They explained a little what they were going to do, and I remember looking at the clock and seeing it was 8:17am when they put me to sleep.  Next thing I know they were shaking me and telling me to get up and walk around.  I got out of the chair and the clock was at 8:50am.  I thought something had gone wrong, but no... they took out all 4 that fast.  They gave me pain pills which I never used.  I went home, slept some, and was at work at 7pm that night.

No pain really.  But if you let them get infected or crack and they have to start cutting them and extracting pieces, it could be worse.

Had four fully impacted so removal was complicated, they put me under and it was just soft foods for a couple days.  No big deal—and this was a difficult case.

Had two removed. Have 2 left. In my 40s.

Went to an oral surgeon and he said "at your age, if they are not bothering you, just leave them. I don't do unnecessary surgery. Come back if they get infected, etc."

You don't need them- have them removed if they are bothering you. Like others have said, its no big deal.

It can cause infections so if you are having pain or infections have them removed. Two basic probabilities. The first and the best is that they are pointing straight like the other teeth. The other one is that they are side ways.  That will involve an oral surgeon. They will put you out, then cut and remove. If they are pointing correctly a simple incision and a yank will get them out.

The problem I had was when they were pulled the dentist must have fractured the tooth leaving slivers in my gums. Didn't have a problem for years then when I was involved in boxing I had had a pain in the area like a wire  was sticking my gums. A regular dentist said he could see the slivers and easily pulled them out.

Back one on top is broken and filled. No pain but if it becomes an issue I’ll have it yanked.

These are great for clearing food out from between your teeth.

Had mine removed in High School.

Terrible experience.

My general dentist did them and didn't realize how impacted they were.

Took him 2 hours to break them into pieces and remove.

I woke up while they were chipping one of them into pieces, no pain but i felt the pressure.

The dentist freaked out and injected me with something, i passed back out.

Worst procedure of my life.

All 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted. Had them all removed under anesthesia 30 years ago My mouth was really messed up for about a week. I thought it was a very traumatic experience until I had shoulder/bicep surgery three years ago.
