I doubt she is "present" enough mentally to do anything other drink and piss.

It's certainly not her, maybe the mother or family?  I really doubt the mom would do this, but who knows.  Maybe someone entirely unrelated?  I've not had the heart to look at anything but that last short video with the med bill that has all the hallmarks of a scam.

I think someone is exploiting/trying to exploit the mom and Denise both.  Give the appearance of being connected to the family or "working with" the family when you're really not.

Small update - The people helping the mother run this are trying to get her to take Denise in with her, her mom doesn't want that, at least right now. She's scared she can't control her.                                           

I get this. Despite being her mom, if Denise is prone to bouts of mania and/or violent outbursts, well, screw that.

No one should deep-six her own safety and sanctuary to aid someone so unpredictable.
