His name escapes me but the person who narrated and filmed that was a nice guy. God rest his soul. He once asked me for my address and he sent me a VHS that he filmed of the first Olympia.  The lighting was terrible and well as the footage but it was great to see. I think he uses a super 8 to film it. He also sent me a print of a painting by Chuck Sipes.  He did this because he said I said some kind things about his friend Sipes and his terrible suicide. I want to say his name is Norm Komich but I'm drawing a blank. Wes would know.

Hey man - don’t beat yourself up. What’s important is that your error was pointed out and you acknowledged and then promptly corrected yourself!

A lesson that a guy we know would do well to learn!!! 😁

That's funny, first thing I thought was the same thing . My next thought was despite being way off he looked better than I thought, compared to everyone else. They all look like manlets next to him and no one carried as much mass.

This video will finally,  and thankfully,  put an end to this idiotic debate.

Norm Komich (RIP) a great person. I have various CD's he gave me at the old Strongman dinners (AOBS).
He was also good friends with D-Mass and we would all sit together at the dinner... He was close friends w/ Chuck Sipes back in the day.
Norm was a pilot in the Air-Force, and then commercial when he got out.

Arnold had a shitty back and shitty legs.

Mentzer won.

Arnold was definitely not his best, yet still good enough to win.

His combined overall look and charisma is unmatched. His legs where weak as was his back in comparison to the others.

Yet he dominated in overall size, posing, charisma. His ability to present a weaker version of himself against the current pros says a lot of his mastery.

There very well may have been some bullshit going on in his favor via the Weiders.

It was their show, they created it and Arnold was always going to win. To be their consumate promoter.

Not one of the competitors that day where ever going to promote bodybuilding to the level Arnold did.

Too bad Arnold did not show up a little bigger in the legs and back as we all know there would be ZERO debate.

All Arnold really had in this show were biceps  and shoulders
Everything else was sub-par including his chest and of course his legs were terrible.

Mentzer looked better than I expected from previously just seeing photos
Zane and Dickerson both looked really good

It was cool to see the individual posing routines

His calves were huge, his chest was huge, if his was sub par everyone elses was crap. His quads in some shots were a bit slender but not all and the separation was there. His back double bi was still great, maybe lacking the thickness relaxed but his rls was wider than anyone else's.

Zane , Coe , Arnold immediate standouts in the opening line up

callender, mentzer, walker all about the same - Cock up his arse dickerson
went unnoticed - cleary the other comparisons come into play.

From that video if anyone had a right to bitch it would be Zane.

Remember 1st impressions count.

Yes! He looked a little smooth like he missed his peak by a few days. If he came in dry and shredded he would have crushed everyone. He was the only top 6 guy who matched or beat Arnold in mass.

I always failed to see why Zane didn’t win 1980.

He was maybe 10% below his best, but Arnold was 30% or more below his best.
