Like I said. Jack “send me back to The Hague” Smith couldn’t prosecute a turnip outside of his chosen jurisdictions….
A federal judge on Tuesday decided to indefinitely postpone the criminal classified documents trial of former President Donald Trump, CNBC is reporting.
The new organization cited a court filing.
The trial, rooted in charges that Trump willfully retained classified national security records after he left the White House and subsequently hid them from federal authorities, had been set to begin on May 20. But U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon wrote in Tuesday’s court order that it “would be imprudent” to finalize a trial date “at this juncture.”
The judge said there remained various pre-trial issues to be resolved.
More specifically, CNBC said, Judge Cannon pointed to questions about how classified information will be handled in the high-profile trial of the former president, who is also the GOP candidate om in the upcoming presidential race. Cannon also noted there were “additional pretrial and trial preparations necessary to present this case to a jury.”
To Cannon, these represented signficiant hurdles to the court doing its job.
To move forward with the trial in May, she said, would be “inconsistent with the Court’s duty to fully and fairly consider” those issues.
Cannon said the indefinite delay was consistent with defendants’ right to due process and the public’s interest in the fairness of the proceedings.
This is a developing story.
