That idea really blew up in his face.

If he wasn’t lazy and just got a regular bike he’d be fine.

Damn! That's horrible.  So was that a faulty battery or was there something about the elevator that triggered it?

I did a little research. It turns out e-bike batteries are notoriously dangerous.

Wow, that's bad. The guy was cooked in that lift. Apparently he died 28 days later. Must have been painful.

I think it had something with the electricity or magnetic something triggering the battery 🤷‍♂️

The dude was still alive after they dragged him out? I didn’t follow up. I just saw it on IG

Any damage to a lithium battery can cause massive heat buildup.

The caption is NOT accurate. This battery experienced an off-gassing event and an immediate thermal runaway condition, then causing an explosion due to the breakdown of chemicals in the lithium-ion cells

Could a getbig Engineer explain this? I know there is one out there.

It's basically from physical damage to the battery which causes massive heat buildup.

You drop the battery for example or drop the bike or just a defect in the battery.

You could even just hit a bump in the road.

Same thing that causes a Tesla to catch on fire.

You should never park a Tesla in your garage.  Same with an e-bike.

I ride an emtb for downhill MTB. Crashes. Heat. Water. Mud. I take my bike in the lifts at hotels.

It’s the difference between a $200 bike and quality gear. Emtbs bought in our countries don’t burst into flames if they take a bump.

1,500 ICE vehicle fires per 100,000 cars down here each year. There has been 4 Tesla fires in 14yrs, none were charging, none in a home.

This is one of the issues with social media. Someone watches a clip from Vietnam or wherever with zero context, they tag others, people take it at face value, it goes viral and the masses get all these messed up ideas without knowing any details, ever owned, ever experienced, never known others etc.

32,000 fires each winter from heaters but it’s the ghetto ebike battery from ghetto Vietnam that’s somehow going to burn you down in America 😂

If you have an ebike or ecar you will die horribly.

There is no escape.

According to The Mirror, if that can be trusted. Dude was 28 years old and died 28 days later. He looked older because of the balding.

Horror moment battery blows up in man's face in lift leaving his body charred
WARNING - DISTRESSING FOOTAGE: A 28-year-old man can be seen walking into a lift carrying a lithium battery which starts to smoke after the door closes before exploding

Footage shows the horrific moment a lithium battery blows up in a man's face in a lift.

The 28-year-old can be seen walking into the lift of a building in the Chinese port city of Guangzhou, not far from Hong Kong, while carrying the battery. He presses the button to go down and it is when the doors are closed that the battery goes up in flames and engulfs the lift.

The man, whose surname is Chen, tragically died 28 days later in hospital according to local media reports in China. In the footage the battery can be seen starting to smoke before suddenly catching fire and exploding. Due to the reduced space, the lift very quickly became engulfed in flames and left the man seriously burnt. There is also footage of people waiting for the lift to arrive and they then rush off to get help when they see state of the man's charred body.

The man entered the lift with a lithium battery

Emergency services then arrive and they pull the man out of the lift by his arm after putting the fire out with extinguishers. He was then rushed to hospital where he survived for several weeks before succumbing to the injuries. The incident reportedly took place on Friday, 8th October 2021, but the footage has only surfaced in local media now to serve as a warning about the proper handling and disposal of lithium batteries.

Experts told Chinese media that there are significant risks when it comes to handling lithium batteries because they can suddenly explode if not housed or disposed of properly. They recommended that all safety guidelines be followed closely when handling lithium-based batteries.

The battery exploded in the man's face

Meanwhile last April an exploding vape battery caused a fire that led to 40 people being evacuated from the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, North London. Part of an outpatient day ward was damaged when the blaze broke out in a backpack on April 30. The London Fire Brigade was called at 12.24pm and hospital staff managed to evacuate people before crews arrived.

A fire brigade spokesman said the blaze was safely put out by a member of hospital staff using an extinguisher before firefighters arrived. Two men and four women were assessed for smoke inhalation. The fire brigade said the incident was over for crews by 1.26pm. The cause is believed to have been accidental, and probably caused by the failure of a lithium battery in a rechargeable vape.

What a horror show.

Fella was trapped in a steel box, fully engulfed in fire and smoke.

RIP

Really sad. I would never bring an electric bike, lawn mower or big batteries to charge in my garage.

I take it you do not use electricity in your house because it carries a higher risk of fire?

Gun deaths are greater than lithium deaths.

Vehicle deaths are greater.

Deaths by sharks are greater. Deaths by snakes are greater. Deaths by spiders are greater. Ooooh deaths by jellyfish are greater.

Choking deaths are greater. Did you stop eating food?

it seems the lowest chance carries the highest alert by people.  interesting how quickly people jump onboard herd mentality. In 2021-22 people were gagging for batteries over oil. It took 1yr of marketing to twist you guys 180, very short time to control the masses.

You are really a simpleton. Talking about the specific risk of electric batteries and nothing else. There is a reason why depending on size you can't bring an electric battery on a flight. Using electricity in my house is not the same as leaving a charging battery in my garage unattended.

😂

So you believe electricity magically stops flowing in your house if there is a problem?

How many planes have crashed from electrical faults? How many planes forced to land due to electrical faults? How many planes have crashed or landed due to a lithium fire?

We’ve been travelling on planes for decades using lithium powered laptops…….. we carry more lithium batteries on board planes now vs anytime in history. Everyone has a mobile phone, iPad, laptop, camera etc.

Im just saying, be careful of jellyfish.

Well, a lot of those risks cannot be controlled by you alone. Car accident requires someone else driving another car. Gin requires another person to shoot at you.

Some of the odds can be cut down when its a risk unto yourselfe.

You can bring gasoline into your house. The odds of the vapors reaching the pilot on your hot water heater and blowing you to smithereens are low, but it has happened. Therefore I can control whether or not I bring gasoline into my house.

After this video, I will be careful with how I handle or store lithium ion batteries.  Because its something I can control.

Laugh all you want.

The risk of lithium battery fires from your garage parked Tesla or ebike are low but when they happen, the effects are very bad.

Similar to nuclear power plant accidents.  The chance of a nuke meltdown is low but when it happens, the resulting effects are unimaginably catastrophic.

Chernobyl
Fukushima

Did you ever try to milk a pitbull?

I'll take my chances with the cow.

I have a car with a wireless charger built in. A few years ago I was on a road trip and the phone was charging while playing music and running a mapping app through CarPlay. The mapping app and music started to glitch and freeze. I grabbed the phone and it was very hot and a message displayed that the phone shut down due to overheating. Not sure if this is a lithium issue or not but it could have started a fire if the phone did not have a preventative shutdown mechanism. What triggered the excessive heat was wireless charging and multiple apps running simultaneously. If the phone was being charged via a cable it would not have generated as much heat.
