I've been to Venezuela a few times. Wouldn't go now, that's for sure. The past 10 years have been a mess. It has always been a corrupt country; even moreso than Bolivia was decades ago. Not too long ago, Venezuela was protecting a known drug lord. Eventually, he refused to pay up the extra bribes when a new minister and general took over that particular side of it. He was assassinated there. If he paid up they would have kept protecting him. This is in the last 15 years or so, too. You'd think that when it comes to things like that, it's in the past due to international pressure, but Venezuela has always been very strange and hostile towards being asked of anything.
