He was great on Maher.

And Maher made the correct point - Republicans and those on the right will go on his show, and other shows, even with a hostile environment.

The Democrats won't do this.

Probably because they cannot defend policy.

Bernie Sanders went on Joe Rogan several times. But I don't know if I'd call Joe Rogan a right winger. I recall that Mamdani went on Fox.

Rogan used to be considered Left Wing when he supported Sanders and then Right when he supported Trump. Like Musk he's really a Libertarian.

He's not a right winger.  He was actually a Bernie supporter.  He just knew Biden's decline was being covered up and Harris was a retarded candidate.

And of course there are one offs - but overall, it's very one-sided.

AOC, etc would never sit down with Ben Shapiro the way Vance did with The View.

Yeah, I'm not arguing against the point. I'm just highlighting some examples. I've always felt that those kinds of interactions make for the most interesting conversations. When the interviewer and guest share the same ideological views it turns into more of a cheerleading session than real thinking or persuasion. I'd never agree with Bernie or Mamdani on policy, but they both handle tough questioning well. Some of those old Buckley vs guest exchanges are still incredibly memorable.

I don’t think AOC would do well in that kind of environment. You mentioned Ben Shapiro. I'm not a fan of Newsom’s policies, but he actually hosted Shapiro on his show, which I found interesting. It’s not the same as Newsom going on Shapiro’s show, but it was a solid exchange.
