Kettlebells

Anyone a fan of Kettlebells?  If so, how often do you use them?  What muscles do you train with them?  If you own them, what sizes?

I have them from 2.5 to 100.

I generally use for farmers' carries in a circuit, shoulder warmup, and slant board goblet squats.

Am currently using one to support a board to so I can put a wet iphone's charging port right next to the dehumidifier.

I have 15, 25, 35's. Look up kettlebell circuits on Youtube and try them. You'll be lucky to get through with 15's. If you lift weights like a bodybuilder (sets, reps), you'll find these to be rough. Any kind of circuits with kettlebells or dumbells are tough at first if you're only used to bodybuilding. Just stick with it and it gets easier.

i always thought that kettlebells were an eastern block/russian training implement
due to the fact bodybuilding was banned in russian at one time - if you wanted to train it had to be other than just to look better ….

There was that bodyweight only trend going for a while and somehow kettlebells got lumped in with them. For some anything but traditional weight training is what they like.

Pretty much, but I still like them.  Although some things feel a bit more natural with the KB.

I've just accumulated them over the last 15 years when I find these stupid deals so why not?

I've got a pair of #45s and a pair of #53s, plus some singles in lighter weights. I use them for clean and press, shoulder and arm work, and some mobility stuff now.

Start off lighter than you think. I originally started with the #53s thinking I was decently strong at barbell work, so the transfer to kettlebells would be easy. It wasn't. After a few months of trying to make that work, I dropped to the #45s which was much better, and to be honest, I could've started at #35-40 and been better off long term.

If you think you're going to like it, price out competition KBs vs regular ones. The feel, etc... is much nicer, and prices have come down.

I like Dan John's and Mark Wildman's stuff -

https://www.youtube.com/@DanJohnStrengthCoach.

https://www.youtube.com/@MarkWildman.

One thing the Russians do that I find interesting is Grievoy Sport. Basically long cycle heavy cleans and presses and snatches with heavy kettlebells -

.

If one had the constitution for it, or was limited to a very small area to lift in. You would do quite well with something like that.

Yeah, like in Rocky 4. Just train using other things than traditional weights.

Did some lateral and front raises not so long ago for a change and I liked it. Will do it more often. Makes your grip engage more than usual

Shipping kills it on ebay - FB mkt for local, but Ironat's favorite retailer routinely drops prices to dump inventory - I got a set of 40s/45s/50s once for $90 total once.
