How did this race discussion start ???

It was me responding to Necrosis about the root causes of crime in America, explaining why it isn't really race-based, but based on socio-economics, specifically, the breakdown of the nuclear family.  Humble Narcissist and Illumaniti responded that problems are race-based, and it just went from there.  Pretty revealing discussion.

Well I definitely know more than you about the root causes of problems in America.  I guess that and about $10 wins me a cup of coffee from Starbucks (if I drank coffee).

You are a proud racist.  Good for you.  You live in a very small world.  You could never survive in Hawaii.  lol

There you go again making wrong assumptions- saying you know better than I the
Root causes of problems in America & you've no idea how big or small my World is.

I've never been to Hawaii so neither you or I know if I'd survive, Personally I figure
I'd be fine.

Hmm to deny socio-economic status as a crime indicator would be irresponsible, the fatherless households, lack of role models in the neighborhoods and single/absent mothers leads to poor upbringing = more crime. However, to deny that one group of people has a higher percentage of these attributes would also be irresponsible and in no way helpful to that community.

It's not the food that's the problem.  It's the fact Hawaii's population is overwhelmingly ethnic minorities.  Not enough white people for him.  He would break out in hives just walking down the street.   ;D

Having visited Hawaii a few times, I know I would love to survive (live) there. The abundant sunshine, mild climate, and that daily mist of rain which keeps the vegetation so lush is very much to my liking. My daughter, son-in-law and grandson lived there while stationed at Schofield Barracks for five years a decade or so ago. They often reminisce about living in Hawaii. One of their best friends in Hawaii is a native from a very large family.

It's not just a higher percentage.  It's enormous.  The black men prison population is grossly disproportionate to their percentage of the population.  It isn't because of racism.  It isn't because there is some genetic component.  It's directly related to the breakdown of the family.  Yes there are some terrible aspects of their culture in a lot of communities, but it can be traced to the absence of strong fathers in the home.  I just thought about this, but if you take random graduates from Morehouse (one of those all male HBCUs that the "white supremacist" Trump just funded again) and the same random number of black men from prison and compare their family backgrounds, I think you find stark differences in how they were raised.  And the breakdown of the family is directly related to leftist Great Society programs that rewarded single-parent households.  That greatly contributed to skyrocketing illegitimacy rates.

Yeah the site has been glitchy.  I created a new thread and it duplicated the thread like five times.

I don't think there is an easy fix.  But if I ruled the world, I would do the following:

1.  Completely change the welfare system that rewards single parenthood and punishes marriage.  Including having work requirements and time limits for public assistance. Like someone once said, it should be a safety net, not a hammock.

2.  Completely revamp the public education system to ensure kids are actually learning how to read, write, do math, etc.  The fact we have schools in places like Baltimore where almost none of the kids are proficient in reading is criminal.

3.  Make money management, investing, credit, and financial literacy part of required high school curriculum.

4.  Have a Trump-like presence of law enforcement in the inner cities to clean up crime.

5.  Create some kind of incentives for young people to get and stay married, before they have kids.  Improve and expand our messaging to young people about following the Millennial Success Sequence:  "getting at least a high school degree, working full-time, and marrying before having any children, in that order."

6.  Increase funding for STEM programs in high school.

7.  Create more opportunities for trade schools.

I could come up with more ideas, but that's just off the top of my head.

That's a solid, common sense list.
