Why talk about an impossibility like getting rid of guns in the US?  There are 400 million guns in the US.  It would take us turning into Nazi Germany or Totalitarian China/Russia to get rid of them, door to door searches, ratting on neighbors, gestapo like abuses, massive citizen surveillance, etc.  Might as well talk about the chances of the Mr. Olympia overtaking the Super Bowl or World Cup, or DJ181 sticking with a plan.
