Jimmy Kimble is a massive dud because he is just toes the company line spitting out awful propaganda.

They will have some jokes baked into this experience now to make him look brilliant.

The sheep will post quotes of what he says because he really gets it.

He’s returning lol

https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2025/09/22/disney-abc-jimmy-kimmel-return.html

His ratings will improve markedly...for a few days.

At the Emmys Colbert said that there are two hundred from his show looking for a job.  This lack of self-awareness is why these late-night network shows get dismal viewership.  Carson regularly got 10M viewers with 100 million fewer Americans, whereas Kimmel, Fallon, and Colbert get an aggregate of 3-4 million viewers.

David Muir at ABC is the only one who comes close to Johnny Carson. He is at about 8 million. The Five at Fox does well at about 4 million. Everybody else is pretty low. People just do not watch network television much any more. Disney recently raved to shareholders and to Wall Street about their streaming revenue and their theme park revenue and moaned and groaned over TV (ABC) and the movies they make.

The real reason they pretended to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air.

Also they allowed him to say something illegal.

Will be apologize?  Was that a condition for coming back?

Even if Disney lets him back, the affiliates could still keep him off many maybe most (?) abc stations. Sinclair said an apology was required

He probably should and will if he wants to be taken seriously. He already made some half hearted comments about praying for the Kirk’s during this time

In a general sense, the networks are more in the driver’s seat than the affiliates are. The affiliates don’t amount to much without the networks’ staple programming, and networks could always choose to go with other affiliates. But clearly ABC could lose a solid chunk of viewership over all this (viewership is down across the board already anyway). On the flip side, there are loads of people within those markets who will side with Kimmel and scream about “free speech” and maybe even abandon their affiliate to watch Kimmel on Hulu (instead of Family Feud or whatever replaces it), etc. Best on both sides to kiss and make up.

Guesstimated Sinclair viewership percentage, maybe 15 to 20 percent of ABC viewers will have to watch Celebrity Family Feud or local news at that slot rather than Kimmel. That percentage may be enough to tank the economics of the show but probably not. Also, viewers in those markets can stream Kimmel if they are that desperate to watch him, so whoever has the streaming platform will get a bump and I guess pay Disney/ABC some dollars. Not sure how that works, maybe Disney controls that particular streaming directly.

His show runs at a loss of millions every year

His show is apolitical party broadcast

Anyone remember when you had talk shows were the hosts shut the fuck up and let the guests talk about a new book or film they had coming out?

Late night shows are in a steep decline (Disney is open about the overall decline of its linear television business unit). BUT Kimmel is #1 in that slot with the 18 to 49 age category which generates the most advertising dollars. And that is why he’s back, probably much more so than Jennifer Aniston and the other celebrities screaming at Disney or the protestors in front of Disney headquarters.

Anyone can watch Kimmel, lots of alternative streams, but Sinclair wants the ad dollars and they know they get jack shit viewers in their areas with Kimmel.  This same -- find a graceful exit/excuse for the radical loons you've been looking to can anyway-- will play out over all of society for the next few years.  Leftists cant admit they were wrong, but they need to go and business knows it.

Your point is well taken in saying that what matters most to Sinclair is their local viewership in each market. It is true that those markets as shown on the map are conservative markets (mostly) but it still is VERY unclear that more people would watch regurgitated local news or Celebrity Family Feud than Kimmel. However, it is CERTAIN that their phones are ringing with people in those markets who want Kimmel OFF. Just like the Jennifer Anniston factor, etc. contacting Disney headquarters or screaming at cocktail parties in LA. We’ll see.

He's returning, but is he really?

Jimmy Kimmel's show is returning to ABC on Tuesday, but not all stations will air it

But many households across the U.S. still may not see the show. Sinclair, a company that operates more than 35 ABC affiliates across the U.S., said that it would replace Kimmel with news programming.

That is more significant, now up to about 25% of total ABC viewership. The affiliates will probably stick to their guns (my guess) because of the blowback they would receive if they turned tail. Disney most likely let them do as they want. But time will tell. In the larger more liberal markets, Kimmel will get a sympathy vote viewership bump (at least for a while). And maybe Celebrity Family Feud will give Disney just as much national advertising revenue as Kimmel would deliver in those smaller markets.
