That is more significant, now up to about 25% of total ABC viewership. The affiliates will probably stick to their guns (my guess) because of the blowback they would receive if they turned tail. Disney most likely let them do as they want. But time will tell. In the larger more liberal markets, Kimmel will get a sympathy vote viewership bump (at least for a while).

I have not been following this closely at all, and you seem to be up on the latest.

Is the affiliate response due to their demographics complaints, or due to worry about a merger getting blocked by the gov't. Or both.  I've heard each "side" making a case.

I am not up on the merger part of it. Are Sinclair and Nextstar trying to get FCC approvals? If so, being on Trump’s side of this is definitely strategic. But popular blowback is also a huge factor. Look at how Target has suffered because of popular blowback and being wishy washy. First they got rid of Gay Pride in response to popular blowback (they were losing sales in conservative markets). Now they got rid of DEI and they are losing sales in the liberal markets. For them, the wishy washy factor is extreme. That’s why I think the affiliates will stick to their guns on keeping Kimmel off. And if you are correct that there are merger factors, all the more reason to keep him off.

I was more on the side of what you're saying.

Liberals are saying affiliates are only doing this because they feel Trump will not approve an exception need for the merger.

However, never underestimate the Trump “revenge factor”. But to me it’s mainly about market and “brand” factors. Plus the owners of those companies truly probably hate Kimmel.

He was spreading mis information.

I also understood his contract is up, and late show ratings have been in the tank since 2022.  He also was asked to apologize, and instead was doubling down.  Those who have seen the monologue to be claim he would have never recovered from it, so the network suspened.

I do not watch his show and I am a “middle-of-the-reader” politically so not too vested in the “mis-information” factor. Be careful about over-interpreting viewership. They are ALL down because not many people watch late shows on linear television any more. Here’s some very recent viewership info:

https://latenighter.com/news/ratings/late-night-tv-ratings-q2-2025/

Even so, there are still lots of advertising dollars involved as well as “brand” loyalty factors (like Target has faced).

His show runs at a loss of millions every year

His show is apolitical party broadcast

Anyone remember when you had talk shows were the hosts shut the fuck up and let the guests talk about a new book or film they had coming out?
Exactly. I rarely watch tv anymore but In 100% don't watch it for anyones political opinion.

Very cringe.  Seems totally fake, especially considering his last performance.

So he has to read an apology according to their narrative here and admit he did “something” wrong as being a bad joke when what he said was a statement and not a joke.

Hence the fake tears and probably effective manipulation.

This goes along with their propaganda that it was just a silly joke and is covered by the first amendment to purposely point murder at the wrong group.

Oh look!!

The charity show is back!

Let’s hear it for the confused, bumbling, and frazzled host who was allowed to return!

WOW he’s so important and powerful! Yet, the moment he stepped out of line, the corporation cancelled him. WOW! He’s soooooo valuable.

All the happy and proud fans in the audience. And their eyes lighting up as their frail and shaky king returned to the stage.

Everyone that got tickets prior to him being cancelled were probably so depressed and downtrodden that they thought they wouldn’t get to attend the show.

Then, the best moment ever, when they got the news the show was back!

Can you imagine how excited they were getting ready to travel to the studio?

And as they stood in line waiting to enter the studio, I bet the air was electric with excitement! And then the moment their messiah walked out on stage, I’m sure the applause was triumphant!

Just as excited as all the folks who had orgasms when the cancellation occurred.

If Kimmel was sincere and actually wanted to get better ratings, he'd have conservatives on.

Not all the time, but 60/40 - 70/30 would help.

Interesting point. One thing about Charlie Kirk is I am told that, as strong as his opinions were, he really liked to DEBATE with people on the Left. We could all use more debate and discussion on all sides.

That would require him to be able to back up his opinions and points instead of spewing the dogshit unchecked that he does.

Fuck them.  They are dead to me.  Tossing all my Tigers gear.  Hoping the Red Wings are horrible this year again.  Will never eat Little Caesars pizza ever again.  Will root for the Pistons but until they move out of LCA which is Little Caesars Arena, I will no longer see them play in person.  The Ilitch family owns the Tigers, Red Wings and Little Caesars.  He is the biggest piece of shit owner in sports.  Back to the Tigers.  AJ Hinch should be fired before he leaves the locker room this Sunday.  Tarik Skubal needs to be traded during the winter meetings.  Let someone else pay $40 million for 34 six inning starts.  Garbage.  He ain't no JV, that's for sure.

GO YANKEES!  Fuck Boston.  Fuck the Cubs.
