I don't know if that specific part is true, but some things which are considered "work" are surprising to me. When I lived in NY some of the elevators were set up to automatically stop on every floor on Saturdays because pushing the button was considered "work." I've not seen the elevator thing outside of NY. Judaism is probably like other religions in that some people will be super strict and others more lax. Like, some Pentecostals here aren't allowed to wear clothes above the knee etc. But obviously not all Christians do that.
