Mike usually competed in Super heavyweight Division.  But he farted like a pig all the time...gross.

Hans Hopstaken was an awesome freak....he would bring the house down at local shows.  It's a real shame he died so young

405 for 6 at the world's strongest man level is weaker than shit, that's a warmup for most of those bulls, he's gonna find out that he's weaker than a popcorn fart when he gets to that level and sees Savikas, Hugo Girard, Glenn Ross, Svend Karlsen and the rest of those bulls weighing 350lbs. and they laugh at him for being a toothpick, hahahaha, i can understand why you look up to him though Jeff because you're all of what 165lbs.??

Uh oh. This post could cause trouble :-\

I've seen Mike bench 405 for 6 twice in the last month.  It's a genuine work set for him.  No bullshit involved.

That's strong, but not Viking Strong!

In all honesty, 405 for 6 is pretty weak for WSM!  What would that make his max?  500?  I'll try to get video of my buddy Nick in Vegas nailing 675 again (2 second pause, single ply shirt!) and I won't even mention the 825 squat he does on a weekly basis!  Mike might be a nice guy and all but with mediocre lifts like that he'll need alot more time on the weights.  I can't count how many dudes out here who can bang 405 for reps, some of which are only about 230-250lbs!

Guy

how old is mike o'hearn now?

what does he do for a lving? is he a personal trainer at Gold's in Venice?

I am not sure on Mikes actual age Mate! He has been in a few action movies and has several Rejuvination clinics that are doing very well. He is always doing something. He is a talented man and is very cool and fun to hang out with. I was speaking with at Gold's this morning. Hope all is well.

I didn't mean to imply that that's all he's got...405 x 6...I just said that's what I saw him do...and the set wasn't to failure, and good form was maintained with all 6, every time I saw him do it.  He may have gone up to 455 after that, I'm not sure.  I think one day he actually may have.

Right after I got out here 3 years ago I saw the two of them training triceps and they were dipping with a 180-pounder for like 8-12 (if I'm not mistaken on the reps, but they were more than 6), and right after that they were going to 315 and 365-lb. close-grip benches for sets of 6-10.  The strength these guys have is REAL.  It's a very "functional" sort of strength...he can perform alot of very heavy work, on a consistent basis, which is pretty much the essential difference in that, tested in strongman competitions, and the type of strength tested in a powerlifting competition...the one rep max stuff done in very linear and uni-dimensional planes of motion.  So I mean he's done everything else, so this is just what's next at this point.  Mike and Tito share this trait:  They need to challenge themselves in varying ways and when they find something new, they give it their all, even if they ARE "just passing through."  That's respectable, and it sure beats competing in bodybuilding contests for 10 years straight despite their having outgrown their general aesthetism for it after about 3-4 years worth of the shit.  There's another thread today with some guy freaking out about not knowing how we should get leaner than Andreas Munzer and thus do our duty to move the sport forward.  I honestly think "the sport" has already seen it's peak, and I think progress, in this case, may end up being bodybuilding's having to take a couple of steps back over the coming few years.  We don't need to get leaner than Andreas, we just need to TRY to get as lean as what he actually did and when we get as lean as we can we'll just say "f**k it," at least knowing we did our best.  I mean, we're probably not gonna get leaner than Andreas without dying, too.  Besides, I mean, was there really anything left to see through his skin?  f**k no.

"f**k it!  You can't look any better than this!"                  --Lee Priest, commenting on his mirror reflection in one of the Battle for the Olympia videos

I watched Tito get 600 for 2 barefoot one day, and he doesn't weigh shit.  I don't even think he'd been concentrating on training towards anything like that in particular, either.  These are REAL GYM LIFTS, done alongside other lifts comprising a bodybuilding-type workout.  I'm telling you, they're fucking strong as shit, those two.

at 6'2 and whatever he weighs now, he needs to be way stronger and bigger, at least in the 280's to be a serious contender in the WSM. As some of you knows, these worlds strongman guys trains with real world weights( deadlifting cars, pulling 700lbs Anchors, powercleaning wheelcarts for reps) I dont underestimate Mike's strenght, but he'll sure need to prove first that he can stomp with the BIG DOGS

compared to the guys i mentioned he is, he will look tiny and underweight when he gets there and sees all those 6'3" 350lb. monsters and they will think he's the towel boy.

I agree. And as pretty as he is, I fear he might end up being the unwilling bitch of those test filled strongmen.

I cant believe you guys are doubting Mike O Hearn.

What if he proves all the doubters wrong?

I thought Joyce Gracie was going to get the sh*t beat out of him when he first competed in the UFC but i was wrong. Looks arent everything...

There's a big difference in knowing how to bend a man's arm or leg, and lifting cars. One is a skill and the other is brutal strength.
