No, that's the other Dubai, the one that's in India too.
There's billions of people and towns so they have to use the same name twice.

Many years ago, I trained with a guy who benched a little over 600 raw. Just watching him lift that much weight was insane. He would close grip bench 455 for reps, it was so easy for him.

Ryan is a complete retard. He is a nice guy but a few screws loose.

I met him back in 2004 I think.

One of his bench DVD's is in the garage somewhere. It was right when he was big into shirted benching.

Ryan said he had raw steroid powders and just scooped them into his mouth without weighing them out. A bit reckless.

Shit, 20-25 years ago when I was in college and messing with steroids you could order 1,000 BD 5mg dbol for like $180. Depending on what he ordered, not a very big deal.

Yeah as I recall I paid 150 locally for those 1000 ct bottles. I don't know how many bottles I went through but it was quite a few. Later also Danabol 500 ct bottles. Seems like no one makes 5mg tabs anymore, it's always 10mg now. Takes less space I guess. As a kid I remember watching TV and the cops said you could get 100 tabs of Russian Dianabol for 1 dollar on the black market here in Sweden! :D

Kennelly was the guy that almost fought Mark Anthony when he was being a dick during one of the Arnold Classics.

I saw Glen Chabot do a triple with 650 at my old gym in Springfield Mass.

He did 722 at the Arnold Classic in 2002 IIRC......he was 315 with abs !!

I didn't see it but my friend spotted an early 20s guy doing 280kg/617lbs a while back. Who here would spot that kind of weight if asked? Not me! At a minimum it would have to on a bench with those safety rails or in a power rack with the safeties at a minimum plus I would demand side spotters too :D

That's exactly it, or worse he gets it on the neck or face. Even if there were 3 spotters there's not enough time to save the guy, it happens too fast.

It's idiotic not to use this type of bench or a power rack.

Then it is a necessary equipment. I wish I had that years ago.

I haven't done regular benches in decades but I've been doing some reverse benches and heavy  JM presses by myself in an empty gym. IMO it won't do much good if you just set the safeities mindlessly far below your ribcage. I set it so when I exhale the bar hits them and then you can easily slide out if you fail. The IPF requires this bench nowadays because spotters are no good if a lifter has the bar roll out of their hands, it happens so quick. Other small orgs have looped straps on the monolift for squats which I think is smart also.

Those benches can be set up pretty easily to allow a meet legal bench. The main arguments against them in the US were / are -

1) Cost. Most meet runners don't want to put out $4000-7000 for a new bench.
2) Set up time at meets to account for dozens of lifters.
3) Makes judging harder.
4) When magazines were a thing, they didn't like the look of a lot of safety apparatus.

The first 2 are the big ones.

Yes, I remember that. At one point, it was several grams of just the injectables, not counting the powder.

I remember him. An incredibly strong competitor. I think he would have had a shot at breaking the RAW world record at the peak of his career.
