Ceramic coating?

Lately I’ve seen a lot of ads for ceramic coating touting its benefits… like preserving the appearance of your new car.  Dealerships offer it, after market shops offer it; prices vary widely.  Do people actually buy into this? If you really want to protect the appearance of your car park it in a garage.  This ceramic coating trend reminds me of automotive bras, spoilers, and paint trims of the 1980s.

My Z06 has a coating for 10 years now.

You can't scratch the paint, and I can wash it with a power washer and leaf blower in 15 minutes.

Or you can be an old Boomer and let it sit in your garage and wax it on the weekends in your boat shoes.

Or you buy a good quality second hand car for 25% of the new price and never worry about such petty stuff   

(Here in Holland there quite a market for PPF, odd as you'd think manufacturers would offer it from factory as an option. Or make it standard on expensive models)

I investigsted all of this stuff a few years ago. Could be great if ceramic coating and/or film was offered in the car factory, because as soon as the paint leaves the factory, it will get fucked by the elements and incompetent people

Ceramic coating serves as a dirt repellant, film serves protection, both are ideally applied right after the factory paint station. Also both have their limitations but still nice to have on a millionaires vehicle.

Do people still do that? I have literally never waxed a car.  I won’t be applying ceramic coating either… or a bra… or a spoiler.

Yes it works.   It adds a thin layer of protection and a high shine to the car.  You can still get scratches.  I used it on mine.  In 2021 and it is still like new.   I bought my mom a new car last November and had it done for hers and the price has increased considerable.  (E450 convertible $1200 in 2021 for complete package - GLC 300 $2100 last November for complete package)  Both times I went to the same  shop, but you can do it yourself.  But you MUST wait the recommended cure time with it being sheltered from the sun and elements (in your garage).  It is highly stated that you must avoid commercial car washes. 

I also had the glass treated as well.  Remember the RainX product that repealed water when you put it on there but only lasted a month or two?  This treatment lasts years.

Duracoating and Exoforma are the two biggest ones on the market.  They are actually the same company, just different names and ship from the same location.

Their ceramic tire coating was AWESOME.  On my last car it lasted 3 years and my tires looked polished and shining no matter what.  Road grime and crap didn't stick to it.  However, when I went to order this last time they informed me that the maker of that ceramic coating was not adding the key additive and compound in it and it was not the same product.  So they discontinued it.

I think rich people see a fancy car as simply a status symbol rather than an object of desire and obsession, therefore they probably don't care about such details.

However, if you can afford it and you value a pristine looking car, I would suggest PPF and ceramic coating as soon as the car is painted in the factory or as soon as possible in general.

The parents of a friend of mine did it.  White folk.

Shows a very caring attitude towards a couch and chairs.

Sitting on polyvinyl chloride is quite comfortable.

I had paint correction and ceramic coating done on my Buick 7 years ago, wheels, windows, trim, and interior coated. No waxing, easy to clean, and the paint still looks better than new. Also, the car sits outside in the Midwest weather.

My friend does ppe wraps out of his shop in Hollister. Ceramic coating is not worth the cost.

you mean PPF which stands for paint protection film that’s the way to go that stuff is pretty heavy and thick hard to scratch through not to mention it has a self healing coating . I recommend Suntek ultra.

From what I understand the paint protection wrap is the way to go these days.  They can be pretty expensive though.  My friend paid about 8 grand to have it done.

Hahaha. No.  I won’t be doing that either. A garage at home and a garage at work is all the protection my vehicles need.  I’m sure all the bra buyers in the 1980’s convinced themselves they were doing something special for their vehicles at the time. Now they just look foolish.
