Under the Criminal Justice (Sentencing) (Licence Conditions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Order 2022, which took effect in August 2022, offenders on licence are now required to disclose any names or pseudonyms they use online to their supervising officer.
This includes social media handles, gamer tags, and any other aliases that could identify them online.
The measure aims to ensure probation services can effectively monitor an offender's digital footprint and prevent them from evading supervision by using secret identities.
Failure to notify a supervising officer is a breach of licence conditions and can lead to recall to prison or tougher sentencing.
