What's Your Go To Hotel?
« on: March 17, 2026, 03:57:12 PM »
When traveling on your own dime, what hotel do you usually stay at?

The top three for me are Best Western, La Quinta, and Comfort Inns.  I'm a member for two of them.

Reasonable prices, modern comfortable rooms, and a complimentary breakfast.

I've stayed in some crappy hotels/motels.

Today's big chain franchise hotels are good when new but after a few years they stop maintaining them and milk them.

Then they are sold to someone named Patel.

Not all of course.  Courtyard by Marriot are consistently good.

Hotels have gotten quite expensive.

Any Marriott property. The points convert to United or American Airlines. I checked and I have over 1000 nights at Marriott. This is not something to be proud of. It bought some flights for the family. It also meant being away from home for over three years. Not exactly a high water mark for a man. Probably something I’ll die regretting. Oh well…

1000 nights holy shit, I had like 30 nights a while back and thought that was a lot.

Hampton inn and suites. Always a great breakfast and clean.

I've had pretty good luck there too except for one in Nashville years ago that was really beat.

Notell Motels are where the clerk is behind a window and give you a set of sheets to use.

Any hotel in the Marriott program. just for the late checkouts nearly all the other perks that come from loyalty are retired. Typical corporate behaviour since they regulators stupidly allowed Marriott and Sheraton to merge years ago. All they have done is slowly retire all benefits.
