You're not wrong, Ray. In my formal investigations over the years, I've encountered these trolls many a time, and they usually present as two very different kinds of individuals: those who gimmick for the love of the game, and those who do it out of rage.
The former are usually in their mid-to-late 30s with at least one paraphilic disorder (amputees, horny stepmoms, women peeing in the streets like animals, etc.). These guys tend to make intentionally silly gimmicks out of boredom and a desire to wind up the more volatile members of a forum. They're sickos, sure, but largely benign.
The latter, now these guys you have to watch out for. They're the ones whose gimmicks aren't for comedy value, but rather to run Epstein-esque operations and gather intel on others to use as leverage, or to boost their self-esteem by living out a fantasy life online. It’s all a bit gay if you ask me, but still not as gay as the human Magic-8 balls who bring nothing to the table at all.
