I doubt he missed ALL of them.

The attacker/son eventually fell. So the untrained observer naturally assumes it was only the final shot that felled him. Which is not true.

If he hit him multiple times close to center mass and hit lung tissue, the guy could stand there and keep swinging until he bleeds enough to drop. Which is especially true is the guy is on some crazy cocktail of drugs or in psychosis or excited delerium. Maybe some of the rounds hit soft tissues around the abdomen.

Its not like the movies where you shoot someone once and they fly backwards 20 feet yelling out a blood curddling scream. Plenty of times people are shot in non vital organs and don't even realize until their adrenaline comes down.

Idk, but in all likelihood it wasn't just the last shot that dropped him.

Cop, civilians or whatever the situation it’s illegal to fire warning shots in any direction. The average LE has a hit rate of 30-35%. In states where POST Certifications are required for LE is 12-1500 hrs but only 80-100hrs of actual range time. After that they’ll do qualifications every quarter or bi-yearly and that’s usually about it. Unless they train on their own firearms training isn’t much more. In cities where they have a full time SWAT unit then it’s almost everyday and are legit operators.

What Im saying is, just because he didn't fall, doesn't mean he wasn't hit.

The assumption is he fell when the cop 'finally' hit him. But he probably hit him several times before the guy went down.

Someone mentioned 'warning shots'. That definitely wasn't the case. This scenario merits deadly force and most PD's strictly prohibit warning shots.
