Greta Thunberg’s 20-year-old younger sister, Beata MonaLisa Thunberg, is building a career as a self-trained singer, songwriter and dancer while deliberately distancing herself from her sister’s climate activism.
Beata, who performs under the name Beata MonaLisa, said that she has danced since childhood and sung since age seven, but was bullied at school for performing and being outspoken.
She is now completing a nine-song debut album she has worked on since she was 13, writing every song herself. She described the project as “pro-queer, anti-macho” and said it focuses on identity, women’s empowerment and personal freedom.
When asked about Greta, she refused to discuss her sister’s activism, saying: “I’m not responsible for other people’s lives.”
Beata also criticized male producers who try to control her sound, saying young, outspoken women are often viewed as provocative. She said she wants worldwide fame, but values having fans who genuinely understand her more than simply becoming famous.
