Law degree = lawyer
Getting licensed = attorney

A "lawyer" cannot practice law. To do this they must pass the bar.

Literally the only ones making a big deal out of this are leftists who think they have some kind of a "gotcha" moment when everyone else couldn't really give a shit.

Whoever fired her must have thought something about her was a big 'bad' deal. LOL!

https://legalknowledgebase.com/can-you-call-yourself-a-lawyer-if-you-have-a-law-degree

"An attorney can call themselves either a lawyer or an attorney. However, a lawyer may or may not be an attorney. In the U.S., the only requirement for calling oneself a lawyer is that they graduated law school. They do not have to pass a bar exam or be admitted to a state bar."

They can call themselves whatever they want, which means nothing. A lawyer cannot practice law. Only someone who passed the bar can do that.

Her law degree is from Pepperdine School of Law in California.

Early life and education

Katie Black[1] was born in 1984 or 1985.[2] She attended Pepperdine University, graduating from its liberal arts college in 2007 and from its law school in 2011.[3] At Pepperdine, she served as president of its chapter of College Republicans.[1] Zacharia interned at the Republican National Committee in 2006[4] and for the White House Office of Political Affairs in the George W. Bush administration.[5] She served as an assistant to Pepperdine's president, Andrew K. Benton, from 2007 to 2008 and was a research assistant to Jim Gash.[3]

Career

After graduating from Pepperdine University,[6][7] Zacharia spent three years in Beijing, China, where she worked as an outside counsel for the World Bank Group.[8] She served as president of the Christian Legal Society. She later worked as a political commentator for Newsmax.[5] By September 2025, Zacharia had worked as legal advisor for Fix California, a political organization; had served on the board of advisors at White Rose Resistance, an antiabortion advocacy group; and was a member of the Pepperdine University School of Law's dean council. She had additionally served as director of development for special projects at Pepperdine University.[3]

Zacharia became deputy assistant secretary of homeland security for public affairs in February 2026.[9][10] She announced her resignation the following month.[11] According to CNN, Zacharia, who lived in California, told an associate that commuting to the Department of Homeland Security's headquarters in Washington, D.C., was not sustainable.[4] In June, Zacharia became a communications advisor to the Trump Media and Technology Group.[12

You have to Remember the person you are replying to
Voted for Biden & Khvntmala & thought they both were competent  ::)

Thought and still think they both were more competent. At this point it is beginning to look like anyone would be more competent than what we have.

Fox news cared. Many there were quite critical of her. You don't think Sean Hannity cared? And it is somewhat of an embarrassment for the admin you have to admit. I forget who it was but some conservative previously unknown to me felt this whole episode was embarrassing. The press sec is important for the image of the admin. It's no big deal to me, I don't care, I think it's just a bit funny.

Aside from the validity of the talking points, or propaganda, Karoline Leavitt seemed very competent to me. I was pretty impressed how she was never lost for words.

IroNat, regarding her calling herself a lawyer, I think they counted 17 times Zacharia had represented herself as an attorney. She said she had only retweeted others who called her an attorney. Not that I care much, but... :D
