Is it directly correlated to the amount of free pizza offered?

Planet Fitness always reminds me of White Goodman's GloboGym in Dodgeball.

There was a flyer sent out from the PF here and they are starting to add plate loaded machines like seated calf raises, a HS flat bench type, a hack squat, and MORE.   Though it didn't say what the MORE actually was.

Will the Lunk Alarm be removed?
Will a mirrored posing room be added?
Will pictures of Arnold appear on the walls?
Will empty syringes be found in the trashcans?

I had heard a long time ago that they counted on members signing up, then never showing up, and forgetting to cancel their memberships.

The 2nd gym I joined was World's Gym. I absolutely loved it. One afternoon I walked in for a workout and all the dumbbells were piled up by the front entrance. Overnight it became a Planet Fitness. I had to eventually quit because the gym was very dark inside with depressing gloomy purple walls. I also once left a pair of nice winter gloves in the locker room that I had received as a gift. They told me they would put them in the lost and found. But when I came the next day, the gloves were gone.

I remember they had free pizza once a week in the evening. And free bagels and coffee once a week in the morning.

All gyms want you to sign up, keep paying, but not show up.

It's a great business plan. Like owning storage units or a do-it-yourself car wash.

Just the opposite of Baileys that gave you a week free trial that you had to provide a credit card for and then kept charging you.  They basically held you hostage.

My Planet Fitness is undergoing a renovation.  According to the floor plans, a deadlift area and a regular squat rack will be added.  We shall see.....

I work out at a country club (nh) and am the jacked-est dude by far. Thought about getting a week pass at a real gym just to check myself and keep me humble. Plus I want to see these whores in spandex people keep talking about.

Im currently dealing with ABC Financial to cancel a gym membership. They make it impossible.

You have to either close your eyes or stare at the ceiling or floor when they are near you so you don’t get accused of offending them.

I think the one by me added a hack squat. Some of the locations look nice and you are permitted to bring a friend for free forever if you have the black card?

I had the same issue with them from anytime fitness. I ended up just cancelling the credit card that it was done through, it was too much of a hassle to deal with them and easier to just cancel the card entirely and reopen with a separate credit card number as a new account. It hurts your credit score to do that, but as a Getbigger my score is high enough to take the hit.

What tactics were they using to keep you locked in?  Bailey's used to say that even if you moved away if there was one within 50 miles, you had to transfer there.

I regret signing up with this gym. I was planning on using the gym but then my situation changed. My contract expires in Feb. 2027 so I can cancel then.

But to cancel prior to that date, they will only cancel under move, military, or medical condition. And proof must be provided. Years ago I had the same issue with them and I was able to buyout my membership and cancel. When I brought that up, it took them a bunch of emails to admit to that option. I was then told I had to call them to do this. I tried calling them a few times and they kept disconnecting me. ABC is a ghoulish company. All their reviews are from folks with similar issues with cancelling.

I prepaid a full year of fees at the local franchise specifically so I wouldn’t be locked into an auto renewal. They enrolled me in one anyway. Billing runs through a separate company (ABC Financial), not the gym itself, and there’s no online option to cancel or simply opt out of renewal. After a few calls that left me on endless holds, it wasn’t worth the fight. I just canceled the card.
