Love the Mp3 player for my outside life, but have found it both too insulating and distracting (!?) in the gym. Also, when locked in, say, the hack squat, the last thing I need is a cord flipping around somewhere. Besides, I time my sets to allow me some chat time with the other 'older' lads.

I love working out with an mp3 player, that way people don't talk to me.
but every time I buy one, I lose it like 2 weeks later

If you're training using an mp3 player, you're likely not training with a partner and as I've experienced it is definite truth that a training partner or partners are extremely performance enhancing.

So is shitty music and metrosexuals doing half reps

Every training partners I had talked too much and it piss me off.
Sometimes I train with my friend, he is fucking strong but he takes like 10 minutes break between each set. I hate it

Lol, sometimes when a hard song comes on i can just close my eyes, with those dumbells on my knees, or that bar over my head or below me, and just do the set like that. lol.. seriously it helps me focus, i also find it kind of annoying when people tell me to 'take my headphones out' cos it annoys them when they try to speak to me.. wtf.

Myself and my co conspirators have a "no skirts" policy.  Any bullshitting or excessive rest taking will be accompanied by loud and obnoxious heckling.

We also heavily enforce no talking between each other during sets, no jokes, no nothing.  As anything seems to put you off if you're lifting.

(I did break boundaries by laying a choice piece of shit gas on someone tonight but it was on a shitty isolation machine and thus didn't count).

I've been working out for decades and I can tell you from experience fellas, it gets boring at some point or other, horribly so.  If I can listen to music that will make me feel jacked, fantasize about being ... say Ronnie when I do rows then I will most likely have a great workout.  Without the added tricks, things get boring, I start checking out all the gym hoes and totally loose focus.  I think a lot of guys can relate to what I'm saying here.  Do whatever helps you get ya grind on.
