You would have loved the 80s, bast.  Everytime a guy played a guitar solo, he made sex faces, then winced in pain as he hit the high notes in the end.  As if those solo notes were so much more painful to play than the chords in the rest of the song.

they werent expressions of pain, it was the opposite really. the best players have to really feel it. even if they dont do it outwardly, they are doing it in their mind. the high notes pinched out at the end were often the climax of the solo and often of the song itself...the complete opposite of pain!
