I guess we can no longer view Pro BBing Weekly radio show as trying to grow the sport of bbing.

Now, they are trying to grow the sport- as long as it's for the IFBB and weider athletes. :(

I spoke to Peter about this - this was never his intention at all. There is an agreement with Pro Body Building Weekly and AMI, since they sponser it, that the AMI athletes appear on that show only. It is simple. There is probably an agreement with Muscletech too.

Ron, I bet anything it was his intention all along for this to happen.  They see a rival radio station starting up they book the guy they (AMI) wants to win first.  Eevrything is olay till the 11th hour then pull the plug and make the new guy look like shit.  Typical of them.  No two ways about it..

When Peter talked to Larry about it on Tuesday, and they are friends are a very long time, it seemed ok. But then Peter got the word from others that it cannot be done. Peter didn't have Larry's number in Colorado, Larry wasnt there, thus the email.

I thought they were friends.  Why don't he have his phone number.  They talked before on the phone.  When two friends talk they usually have each others phone number.  If not one will ask.  So this is as bogus an excuse as any you can give.  It was planned and it is simple to see that.

I don't agree with it, but unfortunately, it is the same with many organizations out there, from television shows, to actors, to music, to sports. Tre, you are in Los Angeles, you should know this.

Don't know about this one either.  Cross promoting on all the networks is very common.  Why do you think the Jay Leno show or David Letterman or any talk show has stars from TV programs from all networks.  And I have never heard of any actor being restricted to talk to any type of media.  The more exposure the better for the show.  SAG does not prevent or dictate who or what you can use to promote yourself.  That would be countrproductive to the advancement of your career (exactly what is happening here).  Race car drivers after a win mention as many sponsors as they can.  I have never heard except in BB where a athelte is restricted from promothing themselves or other sponsors.  What this show is insecurity and the fact that they are threatened by the new radio station just like the IFBB is of the PDI.  I find it amazing that these two are still around and have so much support.  It is simple what people can do is simply not listen to ProBodybuildingweekly.  It's simple.  Listen to the station that seems to be fair and right now is the underdog cause big brother is scared and tightening the ropes.  Just don't listen or support them.  This other station sounds cool and I like how the owner comes on here immediately to tell it like it is and not hide while McGough hides and says nothing and Heath has said nothing.  At least this guy is up front.

McGough had me banned from ironage for asking about it :)

Keith, you do make some decent points.  An 11th hour pullout cause their competitor's debut to flop.  You'd think they could make exceptions in cases like these and really earn some goodwill in the industry.  Instead, it's the same old short-term greedy thinking.

Hmm... AMI pays a competitor a lot of money per the exlusive rights for interviews and photo shoots. Since Phil Heath is an AMI athlete, this applies to him too. He gave an interview on a radio show detailing his experiences on the Colorado Pro, etc, something the magazine would of liked. Is it a concern for the magazine who he talks to sure. Perhaps they wanted the story and interview.

I don't agree with it, but unfortunately, it is the same with many organizations out there, from television shows, to actors, to music, to sports. Tre, you are in Los Angeles, you should know this.

When you are ready to pay for an athlete and become a sponsor, then you have the right to dictate what you want in the contract.

In L.A., when I hire a union actor for my non-union projects, the deal is simple - I have to pay the prevailing union wage in order to secure that talent.  If I'm not willing to pay that rate, then I don't want the talent badly enough.  I understand that.

BUT, if I've got a struggling product to sell, then I need to seek out every revenue stream possible.  I don't know how much Heath makes from his Weider deal (although some would say the 'arrangement' was worth an extra $15,000 Saturday night), but this whole psychotic "let's control people" thing is what landed the IFBB and pro bodybuilding in its current funk in the first place.

They consistently put these athletes in a position where they are jumping over dollars to get to nickels.

Thank god none of those schmucks owns me.  There's no telling what tune I'd be singing!

You know if this radio station is like this then they should only be able to interview people under the control of AMI and no one else.  AMI is controlling what their athletes can do to promote themselves.  Why would anyone allow this.  Every AMI or Weider athlete is killing their future.  I would much rather go out beat the pavement get 4 or 5 or more smaller endorsement deals that would easily equal what Weider is paying them and be free to do what I want.  Why doesn't the pro tell AMI or Weider what THEY want in the contract.  Why do they succumb to what Weider wants.  If Weider doesn't do it fine go off and get someone else.  Weider loses out the pro doesn't, in fact they make out cause now they are in charge of their own future.  Being controlled so much and being told that you can't do a radio show that does nothing but promote bodybuilding is just ignorant and stupid.  There is absolutely not one reason for this.  McGoofball is proving why BB is going downhill.  It's ignorance like this.
