IF you dieting no carbs post workout good/bad?
« on: May 15, 2006, 03:14:06 PM »
Is it bad to just pound a strictly protein drink, like designer after your workout, and eat no carbs at all? Or should I throw in 1/2 cup of oatmeal too?

Im stuck at 234..I need to get to 200-210. I havent gone drastic and cut all my carbs and its not working. Im looking better, but the weight is stilll there.

Carbs im taking in now- (excluding my protein intake foods- im not just eating carbs lol.. ;))

Meal 1-  1 cup oats
meal 2- 1 cup of rice, or 1/2 cup oats
meal3 *pre workout* 1/2 cup of oats

Workout

Meal 4- 1/2 cup of oats
meal5- Protein drink (no carbs)

Thanks for any feedback.

I'm a high fiber advocate, but I would avoid a fiber source, such as oatmeal as a post-workout carb source, as it tends to slow absorption of protein.  I've seen a study which indicates that simple carbs taken post work out are not converted to fat as the body uses it to replace glycogen stores.

Carbs are a must post workout. Try eat a low sugar carb without fiber such as brown rice.

I disagree. You want and need simple sugars after you train, Gatorade is typically what I use but buying some dextrose to add to your shake would be even better.

Your carbs are fine.   Cardio in A.M.? ( 30-45 mins med intensity) Take bcaas before.

Then do cardio in P.M. 2 hrs before bed.   (20mins  hard)

No carbs after 6 p.m.   cuz you want gh to secrete at night.

Carbs are a must after your training.  I use maltodextrin, which, in my opinion is more effective than dextrose.

I agree maltodextrin would be best as it doesn't spike insulin which causes fat storage, especially in an endomorph. If you want to burn fat do not eat simple sugars period. Stick with low glycemic carbs.

Hence the quandry Do I choose to build mass or do I choose to burn fat.  It does not appear the two goals are altogether compatible.

Its is possible under either of the three following conditions:
1. You are a newbie
2. You are incredibly gifted
3. You are on the juice.

Personally, I have not yet been convinced that PWO shake really does much..

So a while back I took a PWO shake (whey and dextrose) for 3 months..Then for another 3 months I skipped the PWO shake and just ate my regular meal 45 minutes later..

After these 6 months, there wasnt a difference at all..
