I've been in street fights and knocked people out cold. I was minding my own business and someone tried to mug me. Dropped him like a sack of potatoes.

Yeah, sure. ::)

Actualy, only biting was, eye gouging and ball shots were perfectly legal

Watch Joe Son vs Keith Hackney if you dont believe me

Joe Son took some serious shots to the balls. Remember him carrying the cross?

Today I was standing in line at the bank and I waited a long time before moving to the teller because I knew the guy behind me(a young guy with a peirced nose) wouldn't do anything because of my imposing size combined with my karate experience.

LMAO

Most ridiculous post in a month. A 48 year old bragging about keeping lil punks in line with his Ka-Ra-Tey-Skillz.
Maybe he was just standing in line, like everybody else, ever considered that?

Guess what, today i went into a supermarket, and i wans'nt attacked at all because everybody saw my fighting skills and my impressive physique!
And no, there is no way all the other people just wanted to shop, like me, they wanted to fight and were just scared off!

I will share a little story about teh effectiveness of karate...a couple of years ago I got bitten by the martial arts bug so I decided to try a karate class (it was free to try) so I go there and they have us sparring but not hitting...I'm lost obviously being my first time...anyways this guy with a black belt decides to do some spinning kick thing out of nowhere.  Luckily I saw it coming and moved in time or he woulda hit me right in the head.  So anyways to make a long story short i snapped just lunged at him and basically pancaked blocked him (it was instinct...played guard in football) and once on the ground gave him a few shots and put him in a choke hold until teh instructor broke it up.  Now this guy was suppossed to be a black belt and here is me just some guy that lifts weights and I am throwing him around and he is helpless just because I got hold of him? Talk about useless.

And I'm not saying I am a tough guy who scraps alot, just that karate is not effective in teh real world...oh and I was told not to come back ::)

Some people have questioned why a second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate would be giving advice on a weightlifter board. Well I did in fact train weights as a younger man. I lied about my age because I didn't want to seem like an old timer. I'm actually 48 not 38. I'm no spring chicken. I have a very slight beer gut. As I said, I'm 6' 255 pounds. Pretty damn impressive for a 48 year old that never touched steroids in his life.

No, actually it's pretty typcial for a 6' fat guy who doesn't have the discipline to loose the gut.

I've always had a good base and never really needed to work out very much.

Now you are begining to understand why you're just lazy fat guy, and a dime a dozen.

Weight training translates to martial arts very well because obviously it adds to the power of your strikes. Grab a few light weights after you perform a workout and do punches with your shoulders raised. This is good for your deltoids. You'll notice all boxers have powerful deltoids. It's very important for fighting. This sort of activity is also great cardio. Weightlifters should definately learn martial arts. Just think how much more confident you are as a bodybuilder with large muscles. Add the confidence that martial arts brings and you will feel great. Today I was standing in line at the bank and I waited a long time before moving to the teller because I knew the guy behind me(a young guy with a peirced nose) wouldn't do anything because of my imposing size combined with my karate experience. This confidence permeates every aspect of your life. Not just fighting. It's a whole new attitude and it's a responsibility.

So you basically walk around acting like a cocky prick and calling yourself confident right?  (rhetorical question)

I'm in a happy place right now. I don't want to preach, but it helps if you have Jesus in your life. Jesus gets me through every day and keeps me from doing the wrong thing.

Jesus said, hate the sin and love the sinner.
