« on: June 17, 2006, 10:40:22 PM »
okay so today my back day looked like this...

deads:

warmup 10x135x1

8x315x1
6x385x1
6x385x1
405x2x
405x2
415x1 (yeah...it's ridiculous..i haven't deadlifted in 2 years and it felt like i was moving a bus with 400lbs)

and then seated cable rows
10x225x1
8x275x1

and that was it..

good day for the back? if you guys have any suggestions for backlift workouts i'd love to hear'em
i want 500lbs before the summer is over..i'm not gonna lie...that 400 lb pull felt impossible...so i'm beginning to wonder how much work this will take..

and how much fuckin fun i'ts gonna be to get there

Two routines:

The three week rotation:
Week 1: Deadlift
Week 2: Rack Deadlift
Week 3: Deep Deadlifts (standing on a box or two rubber plates.)
repeat.
Warm up with a light weight, then do 5 working sets with 3 reps.

The two week routine:
Week 1: 3-5 sets deadlift, @ approx 70% of your 3RM.
followed by 2-3 sets Deep Deadlifts.

Week 2: Same as week 1, but with approx 40 lbs more on the barbell.
Also, you can exchange the Deep Deadlifts for Rack Deadlifts if you like.

There are also one hand DL's, as another method of boosting up strength for the two handed version. A very good exercise that falls into the class of forgotten exercises. Probably because their too hard to learn the balance and form for most people. Any one hand lift is ideal for an athlete, though not too many BB'ers are really athletic by nature. .  After taking time with this exercise you could almost reach the same amount of lbs used on the regular DL. Another great way to build an outstanding grip. Usually a good idea to train each side of the body seperate (from time to time) from the other side anyway.  Can insure both side will have close to equal strength and not one side stronger (dominate) over the other. This may also help with the problem of one side of the body being a little larger than the other; arms, thighs, pec's, etc. Both these exercises can be preformed with-in a power rack, also.

Two ways to do one arm DL's. Stand in front of the bar and use the center knuckling as a general gage. Though not all bars are balanced correctly, a little exploring will be require to find that true center of balance. The other way is to straddle the bar and lift that way. This is similar to the old Jefferson squat/lift where borth hands are used, one front and one back.  Switch the hand positions between sets on this one.

There is also the hip/back lift, which is  the king of all dead weight lifting. A heavy harness, and probably a special lifting platform, is require. Though the exercise could start from being lifted off the floor, the ROM would be limited. Huge weight can be lifted, which can have a positive affect on one's regular DL.

We use to do two man DL's. Lot's of fun to see how much two guy's could raise off the ground together. Not really a regular workout exercise, just did them for the fun of it. Good Luck.

Deadlifts
Weighted chins & pullovers - superset
T-bar rows
One arm DB rows

that is my favorite back routine...

like someone already mentioned you should try adding 10 pounds a week and concentrate on doubles and triples. try not to max out every week.

The three week rotation looks like a good changeup from deadlifting every week.  What % of 1RM would you recommend?

not bad IMO... it shouldn't matter to you though... if you are deadlifting to failure, whether failure comes at 415 or 650 doesn't matter... deadlifting to failure is a good way to find jesus

Don't look at the 1RM, but the 3RM.

Approx 30-40 lbs under your estimated 3RM, for all sets.
