In a band, I have played in a lot of clubs over the years, in a lot of nice ones, and even more shitty ones.  I've seen the cops called quite a few times on people.  I've never seen bouncers charged with assault... much less the same bouncer charged, a dozen times!

Did the same bar keep you on staff after you had been charged the 12th time?  Monster insurance liability/timebomb ticking.

What does that prove .

We live in different countries . In the UK the law protects the criminals and the yobs .
I worked in Glasgow a few times and hated it because the police were questioning the doormen nearly ever night for complaints made by drunken punters . In Glasgow there are too many young drink punters who have rich parents . Then what happens is that if you ask a guy to leave for bad behaviour etc and he refuses it can be difficult to escort him out without him crying ASSAULT . Now I am talking about mummy boy tough guys who swing a punch and then when you get them in arm/head/wrist lock they start sobbing like a 240 .The minute you get them to the door they run to the nearest copper and tell him how the big rough bouncer threw him out because he spilled his drink accidentally .

Your country obviously does not tolerate this sort of behaviour from drunks but we are too politically correct over here in the UK so the cops act accordingly .

The large majority of the real tough guys that get thrown out never go to the police . Most will even come up and apologise about what happened the following week as long as the bouncers don't take liberties when they fight is over.


Please do your homework in future . The UK is across the Big Pond .

Hey man, as another guy that worked in bars for years, I can only say that you aren't going to be able to get your point across to someone like 240, as I believe you have to live it to understand it.

It isn't a good idea to do something like that your whole life I don't think, but, it can be a tremendously good learning experience for a guy to find out certain things about himself he can't find out otherwise.

I am not saying the pay is great. You can learn things you can't other places is all I am saying. During a fight it isn't about the 8 bucks an hour, it is about the guy going in with you and it can also be a lot of fun.

I only did the clubs as a second income . I was a single parent then with two young kids so I need the cash mate . I only do it now as a favour . The money is shit but you can't leave your buddies in a jam . You know the score mate .

I know exactly what you mean. I did it for years before going back to school. For some people it is a cool way to get out and make some cash at the same time, while for others, it is a necessary source of income. I had a powerlifting coach from Scotland (you said you worked in Glasgow yes?) and he was a big mean bastard lol if you were handling guys like that, I take my hat off to you.

The secret is to grab one guy preferably in a tight head lock with your thumb-knuckle sticking into to his Adam's Apple ( that way he won't think to squeeze your balls ) . Then you shout for calm . Once the trouble makers see that your are a bouncer and are only trying to break things up ie. you are restraining rather than fighting, then the great debate can begin . He started it etc and hopefully by the the cavalry are on their way . That works most of the time but when it doesn't ....

LOL I know what you mean, you gotta pretend to be brave in order to look like you got your shit together sometimes. Where I worked it was mostly students, so it wasn't too bad, however, there were some big dudes that liked to cause trouble sometimes, but, for the most part you could keep things cool by just talking to them. If they got started however, and you were alone, it could get messy. I usually went for the biggest guy and brought him to the floor, and like you said, once they saw you were a bouncer, they usually slowed down until help could arrive.

Where I worked it was mostly students, so it wasn't too bad, however, there were some big dudes that liked to cause trouble sometimes, but, for the most part you could keep things cool by just talking to them. If they got started however, and you were alone, it could get messy. I usually went for the biggest guy and brought him to the floor, and like you said, once they saw you were a bouncer, they usually slowed down until help could arrive.

We would normally know all of the big guys or we would at least strike up a bit of a rapore . However when the shit hits the fan you've got to convince then that you are a nice guy bouncer simply doing this job and that is why I preferred just to grab one big guy in a head lock to show it is nothing personal . However as you know my friend life is all about probability so you've got to do your best to get the odds stacked in your favour . Once you've got that guy in a head lock and one of his pals throws a punch at you all you've got time to do is duck and hope he busts his hand when he punches the top of your head .
