It is a basic right that you are due a speedy trial. In most cases where there is a delay it is requested by the defense as they need time to prepare.
Reviewing the facts in this case I would assume CT's lawyers have requested the extra time as they seem to have few options. In fact the only obvious option to pursue would be to pass the hot potato to his wife.
Also, another poster made a comment about OJ and that he was "proved innocent" .. Remember, there is no such thing in the courts as proved innocent. He was acquitted which really has nothing do with whether he is innocent or not. Just means they couldn't prove it and he isn't going to jail.
