Lee Priest foundation
« on: July 30, 2006, 09:03:04 PM »
Attention IFBB and fellow Bodybuilding fans....I want
to make an announcement that may be of interest to
all.

As you all know, I have stated I WILL be competing in
this year's Mr. Olympia contest, no ifs ans, or buts.
So, that being said, I would like for everyone to know
that any prize money I receive will go to establishing
the LEE PRIEST FOUNDATION. That's right, 100% of the
prize money I win will be used to start this
FOUNDATION. In addition, any guest appearence earnings
will also be contributed to the FOUNDATION.

This FOUNDATION will be developed to assist and
support those within the sport of BB'ing and its fans
to name a few. It is my belief that BB'ing has taken a
wrong turn for both the fans and the athletes. It is
my hope to take BB'ing to a new level for the
betterment of everyone involved. This is a sport of
comradery or at least should be. I have been a IFBB
PRO now for 12 years and I have seen the degradation
of the sport before my eyes, I am sad to say.

In closing, my intention is simple. I would like to
give something back to the sport of BB'ing and the
fans that have made it possible for me to compete. It
is time to give something back and to make things
better for all.

Bravo.

Very classy move.  Nice to see a bodybuilder take the lead and do something positive and unselfish.

This September/October's events have just become a lot more interesting.

How can the IFBB suspend a very popular guy who wants to basically compete for free, who wants to use prize money to improve conditions in the sport, and who has one of the top physiques in the world?

Interesting announcement, a bit general though.  Are you talking about paying for accomodation/travel/etc for competitors who are burning through the money for a poor placing?

Obviously some people are going to make the joke that you're setting up a foundation to pay for guys gear so lets get that out now.  "HAHA"

Mr. GetBig should do the same thing.

If the man who wins chooses to donate some of his winnings, that would be awesome!

This is strange - seeing a little unselfishness in BBing.

Great idea. I have my own opinions on why bodybuilding has taken a wrong turn, can you tell me what your opinions are on this...where do you think it went wrong?

Nice.  Perhaps the $ can go toward helping some afford insurance, or better yet - financial planning - as most BBers have a high school education.

Well I will tell you one thing, this is awesome.  What this does is put pressure on the IFBB for sure.  If they don't let Lee compete, with him making it public like he has, he will donate everything he makes to a charitable foundation which is being setup to help BB's and others within the industry this will make the IFBB appear not to support the members at all.  Here is a chance for other IFBB pros to have an organization specially established to help them during hard times (since the IFBB has not done this, why not) and if the IFBB won't let Lee compete and take his placings and donate them to this cause it will make them look real bad.  Good job Lee.  What a way to stick it to them.  I like it.

This is great and all but there is much more involved in setting up a "foundation" then just posting it on a message board.

Will the "foundation" help bodybuilder's pay their back taxes or what will you be "giving back"?

Sounds like a desperate PR stunt before going on PBW.

Class move Lee. And yes this puts pressure on the IFBB. Hopefully that won't effect your placings.

Personally I think the Lee Priest Foundation to raise money for terminally ill children would be a better way to go. Hard for the IFBB to take money away from a dying child, but not so hard to take money away from their own.

Lee Priest is suffering from delusions of grandeur. The only foundation required for bodybuilding is copious amounts of juice from an early age. Bodybuilding is not a sport and he is not an athlete.

This is the part that I'm interested in. If you say 'foundation' do mean a foundation that is 'tax-free?' If so, there has to to be an altruistic component to your giving back -ie. bb'ing and those with special needs, etc. Wondering if you can, at this point, flesh it out for us. Good on you for this move.
