Hulkster : a quote from Ronnie
« on: August 01, 2006, 09:12:15 PM »
Taken out of FLEX nov 1999, page 90.  interview by jim schmaltz with ronnie before the 99 Olympia.

Jim:  What would have happened last year if Dorian Yates (recently retired winner of 6 straight Mr. Olympias) had competed?

Ronnie:  Dorian would have won again.

Jim: You think so?

Ronnie:  I know so.  Dorian has a big physique - hard- and he's been the man to beat, and its hard to knock the champion off the block.  He's a big guy and has a lot going for him.  He overcame so many adversities, like his torn biceps, I couldnt see too much else stopping him.

enjoy hulkster.   ;D

Quote
its hard to knock the champion off the block.

An interview from 7 years ago before Coleman was established or had established physical dominance is empty. The part about knocking a champ off the block is a direct acknowledgement of the political hijinks BTW.

I think Ronnie was just being humble. At the time, Ronnie had only one O trophy, Dorian had six.

BTW, I'm not a Ronnie fan.

Exactly. This would be news, had it been stated last week. But 7 years ago or whatever, please....... ::)

At the time of the quote, Ronnie was still having a hard time believing he was even a one time Mr. Olympia. Remember, he was as shocked as anyone that he actually won.

You really think that after coming out of nowhere and winning the O. that he would say that he could beat someone who won it 6 times?

I highly doubt it.

Can you imagine how bad (arrogant) that would have made Ronnie seem?

Ronnie may be dumb, but he ain't stupid 8)

Actually, I disagree with this. If Dorian went into the 1998 olympia looking like he did in 1997 and Ronnie were there in the shape he was, Ronnie would win. The 1997 Dorian was not good enough to defeat the 1998 Ronnie. Sure, Dorian would win because reigning standard-bearers don't lose. But the bottom-line is that, physique-wise, Ronnie had the better physique when compared to the 1997 Dorian. Yes, a 270 lbs Dorian destroys a 249 Ronnie in muscularity - and he's still harder! -, but Ronnie's advantages in taper and details would be too great to be overlooked. I think a 249 lbs Ronnie should defeat a 270 Dorian for the same reasons a 257 lbs Dorian should defeat a 287 lbs Ronnie: better taper, better abdominals and serratus and more separations. Muscularity without anything else should not win contests; the most muscular man should not win, if his muscles have less quality and his overrall symmetry is worst. That's my opinion.

Kiwi-fruit, go back to the alphabet boards with the other gay nerds, like your boss/John, "sarcasm", and leave the grown ups alone. I'm seriously considering PMing Ron about this shit. it seems like one can't make a serious post in this board without getting flammed(well, in your case, "flamming" is understandable, Kiwi-fruit ;D) by morons who aren't even bodybuilding fans, and who's posts are composed of nothing other than the words "meltdown" and "owned". You suck.

P.S: Your response to "superman" was the most retarded, unwitty babbling ever. Again, you suck.

well, according to hulkster and pimpster, dorian is the most overrated bber of all time, but according to ronnie coleman he's a pretty good bodybuilder. in fact, even admits that he would not beat dorian.

Ronnie's southern drawl only makes him sound dumb.  Seems to me that as far as his actions go, both competitively, financially, and all areas in between, he is very intelligent.

Yes, Ronnie is an intelligent dude. the man graduated CUM LADE and has B.S in accounting from Grambling State University

Why did he become a police officer if he has a degree in accounting?

to answer your question, here's the answer

The move to Texas – and the toughest years
Ronnie left Louisiana for Dallas, where he expected to find greater job opportunities in his chosen field. Instead, he was denied time after time in his quest, and delivered newspapers, and pizzas for Domino’s to make ends meet. "Domino’s was the hardest job I ever had," he recalls. "I dreaded every day working there, but I knew I was destined for something better." One day while skimming through the want ads in the newspaper, he saw that the police department in Arlington, a Dallas suburb, was hiring. The idea of better pay and job benefits appealed to Ronnie, and he joined the force. He had always lifted weights, and continued to do so in the police station weight room. In 1989, one of his fellow officers persuaded him to check out Metroflex Gym, which had been open just two years, but was already known as the best hardcore gym around, home to many competitive bodybuilders and powerlifters.
