Identity and proof.
« on: August 20, 2006, 02:31:47 AM »
I was dismayed that anyone on Getbig could accuse me of being someone I am not. If those of us who use our real names are doubted then what does this say for integrity? I have always compaigned for everyone to post under their real names and not to use aliases. I also never post under any other identity. Therefore, anything I post I am responsible for and I always post the truth. That is a high standard to have for discussion boards.

I have to wonder what on earth some people must think and how they process information. I am one of the few published magazine writers who post for free on discussion boards. Why do I do that? Well, I prefer to make my information available to anyone without having anyone edit my words. I also feel the magazines do not compensate writers appropriately for their work. The same goes for photographers who are underpaid and unappreciated.

If I come online as a former national champion and long time gym owner then what the heck right does anyone have to challenge my identity and insult me? That is preposterous. I honestly feel I have done more than just about anyone else in the bodybuilding field. I have a factory where I design and build my own gym equipment and have had a patent for an original arm machine. I have run bodybuilding contests and made up judging rules. I have come up with original theories about hypertrophy. I have even done a bronze sculpture of a female bodybuilder that was done purely from my mind and not a model.

I find it rather offensive to be challenged by individuals who are not my peers. You people pay your dues and then you will have some standing in the Irongame. I have participated and won events in weight lifting, powerlifting and grip events. I do not need to prove anything to anyone here. I have also studied at several universities have have a BA, DipEd and a MEd. When others have done some of these things maybe this forum will be a better place to reside. I also consider that I have a sense of humour and I enjoy the wit that many demonstrate online. I do not appreciate the knocks of the knuckleheads.

Vince whilst I understand where you are coming from there is no room for people who don't understand the way things work on the internet here.  Impersonation happens all the time.  If you are challenged it is for your own good and the protection of your real life identity.

As for the rest of your post, it would be best if you go to another board if you want start talking about yourself like you deserve to be treated like a bodybuilding god.  You'll always be treated like an equal (at best) here.  Unfortunately that is to the detriment of many an ego.  It would appear you're a hair away from such a reaction to the situation.  We don't really care who you are Vince, if you react negatively to the way things are you're expendable (the list of Pros who don't post on here because of this is large).

People will give respect here, but its not automatic.  This isn't a negative board, its just a "real" board.  Backslapping is  at a minimum.

I believe people should be treated according to the quality and sense of their posts. Nothing more and nothing less. I know that others can criticize people and sometimes this is a good thing. However, concepts like 'owning' and 'meltdown' and gay references are just crap. Come up with something significant and not jargon if you want to gain respect. Comments about how much one can or cannot lift do not win arguments but do help qualify individuals.

I have a good grasp how this forum works. I also have a clue about what goes on in gyms.

Righton like DonkeyKong, that's just the way it is... ;D ;D ;D  Life is too short to sit behind your PC and roid rage about peoples comments towards us (not intended for Vince, just saying).  I'm sure if we met each other, even sarcasm, Alexxx and anyone else, we would laugh our asses off at the comments said.  Vince, take it for what it's worth and move on.  Your post seems like that of a high schooler trying to find himself and prove his vantage point on life.  At your age a post like that surprises me especially for a guy who seems to have been around a while!  I don't know you so I can't judge you but good luck on here, join in the fun or if you can't hang go somewhere else so we don't offend you.  Peace brudda... ;)

I see what you're saying here Vince, but you have to take this board less as an affront to your dignity and more a place to relax and have some fun. You have a critical eye - use it -ie. ignore all the chaff (and there is a lot) and involve yourself with what interests you. There will always be a lot of posters chumming the waters for a good flamewar, owning, m1ltdown, etc. Don't rise to the bait.  :)

Vince, come on man. Get serious. You really need to think about whether you're cut out for this or not. You're posting on a message board in the Gossip and opinion section. Have a sense of humor. While I'm sure you believe all your accomplishments in the world of bodybuiliding should entitle you to more respect than the typical poster, you have to constantly remind yourself just how significant all this really is. We're talking about bodybuilding Vince, and as much as we love it, in actuality it's a very small percentage of people who care as much about it as we do. So while in your mind you may be important to the bodybuilding community, what does that really mean, especially on a message board. If you feel like you're not getting the respect you believe you're entitled to, there is an easy solution to your problem, simply don't post here or find a board that meets your high standards for thoughtful, informative, and respectful posting. I'm not sure what you feel qualifies someone to be your "peer" but I think you'd admit Milos is one and he seems to be able to post here and have a sense of humor about it. Several other people I would consider your peers add great posts on a daily basis and seem to also be able to handle the back and forth that goes with a board like this.  Vince, lighten up dude, you're not Arnold, you're not a household name to most of us. There's an old saying that goes if you have to keep telling us who you are and what you did, then maybe you're not quite as important as you think you are. I hope you stay but your posts are just getting harder and harder to read.

What on earth does that prove except other people have the same name as I have. I am also there on Google if one cares to look.

None of us miss the point Vince.  We just don't see the issue.  We especially don't see the point of a second thread talking about this.  You're suggesting that this is some kind of insult to be accused of being a gimmick.  It has nothing to do with what you're posting, its just skepticism and given the amount of times people have been impersonated here (people have seriously carried on false identities here for years) it is somewhat warranted.

I didn't think you were a gimmick and very few people did but I don't see the problem either.  He said you were, you said you are not.  You posted your pictures or whatever and the issue is over.  Its not disrespectful to you and now people are sure you are who you say you are.  He was wrong, end of story.

As for knowing how getbig works, believe me, you don't - you'd never have posted this thread if you did.  You'd have never taken offense at accusations you were a gimmick.  You'd definitely never have admitted it. :)

Vince, one person among thousands questioned your identity. Most of us, myself included, believed you from post one. Get over it.  At this point, you're just digging the hole deeper and deeper. And continually talking to us like we're third graders isn't helping. We know you're the teacher and we're just your humble students. You don't have to remind us with every single post.....jeeesh

Frankly old man, I could give a crap who you are and what you've done. I've never heard of you which tells me a couple of things...

You're not Joe Weider, Jack Lalanne, Vince Gironda, or Larry Scott.
You're not Frank Zane, Bill Pearl, Steve Reeves, or John Grimek.

So stop talking as if you're a SOMEBODY deserving of special treatment. You're a NOBODY and you'll be treated like every other NOBODY here.
