That is a lot of steps. The average number of steps a person walks per day is 3,000 to 4,000 or or 1.5 to 2 miles. You are walking just under 6 miles a day. If you walk a lot of it in the sand, it makes doing this even more impressive.

I average 22000 steps a day and thats over 11 miles everyday. Just curious how you figure his is only 6 miles?

Thanks for catching this. I am not sure how I came up with that number, but it is obviously wrong, which I should have known since I was expecting it to be a lot higher. A fast walker can walk 10.5 miles in 1:56 which is doable. A relaxed walker walks that distance in 5:15 and a moderate walker in 3:30. People whose jobs entail a lot of walking have an advantage over someone with a desk job.

Coach says he has a short stride, which is understandable since he's not very tall. It would take him longer to walk the same distance as someone with a long stride.
