How come the Pro Athletes Rep hasn't got the pros something for using photos? Seems an omission. No worries, Bob will get the lads something and even royalties for using photos in the past!

Same reason ANY magazine doesnt pay for photo's...unless it's a specific shot, or a feature, which are paid gigs most of the time.

No, both are responsible for their own actions....not the other athletes. And yes, had either guy actually followed advices that were given, I can guarantee that both would have been in a much better place.

As I've said for years...cant save people from themselves. Sometimes, Basile...you actually have to be responsible for your OWN CHOICES in life.

I'll agree with you on Lee being responsible for his actions however I do disagree with you on Milo's situation as its been ajudicated. Even though Milos went about his methods improperly, it was later to be correct that Paul Chua was indeed fixing contest.

However, Milos needs to realize that he must take it upon himself to get himself admitted back into the IFBB. He did decline your help numerous times. But I think he should just be re-admitted without any penalty

If you're under contract (which both gentlemen you mentioned have been at one time or another) then you get paid monthly for shoots/ interviews/ appearances/ etc....if you're nt, then its up to the individual to negotiate their own deal...many just want the exposure.

How can anyone forget the look on Arnold's face when he won $1000 from Joe and Ben way back when! The Weiders were always parsimonious and Dave Draper as well as other champs were shortchanged for photos and endorsements. The Brothers of Iron went on to make hundreds of millions from the magazine empire yet the muscleheads got peanuts. Something not right there.

No worries, Bob will sort this out and redress any grievances the pros have.

Well, little Melvin Goodrum is too young to remember champs like Clancy Ross, the King of Bodybuilders. He died in a nursing home not that long ago and seemed to be destitute. He endorsed the Weider products and was featured in all the Weider magazines for decades. I doubt Clarence made much from all that exposure.

Dave Draper probably would have won his case for compensation for using photos, etc., but settled out of court for peanuts. The Weiders made deals that benefitted mainly their empire. Those of us who admired those guys in the mags and on the covers never imagined they did it for peanuts but it appears that this is exactly what happened. Writers and photographers for those mags make peanuts, too.

BTW, Clancy Ross should have managed his finances better.  He was in a nursing home because he was unable to take care of himself.  He at least convinced that nursing home to put a fitness center which he never saw since he died before it was completed.  Its actually named after him.

Guess I know a little more about Clancey than you do..... ::)

Draper isn't destitute or bitter at all.  He made a lot of money, starred in many TV shows, and runs his own supplement business.

Bodybuilding as a sport was still in its infancy so obviously there wasn't any real endorsements around.  Get over it because if you were smart enough to invest in it at the time, then you would have made a lot of money from it.

The pro athletes rep should take up this battle. No wonder some of the champs turned to alcohol and drugs. They were screwed out of millions of dollars that should have been theirs.

I am way beyond the right in politics. Nice try. I am for justice, though, and always have been.

Part of the athlete's rep job is not being a financial adviser.  Athletes should be responsible for their own income.  If an amateur athlete like me can make a decent living from bodybuilding and fitness then everyone else can.

I never saw Vince G CSN MFT post at Ironage but he obviously reads all the muscle forums. Guess that is what you do when you are unemployed self-employed and live in the hills in North Carolina.

Clarence Ross should have been a wealthy man from all that exposure. He got peanuts and the Weiders made millions. Even Arnold knows this. So does Robby Robinson.

His situation was no different than yours.....a fool and his money are soon parted.  Clarence could have invested his money into something viable but choose to spend it and have a good time.  Same as Vince Gironda who only had a lousy 17 dollars in his bank account when he died and no life insurance.

They may have been champion bodybuilders but they weren't good with money management.

But then again you can't take it with you.

As far as me being self employed is concerned, its a lot of hard work but it pays off big as I'm a pretty busy person.  I collect no unemployment, food stamps, or welfare nor do I need to or have ever done.  If I was ever in the situation where I would need extra money, I would simply pick up a part time job like I did unloading freight trucks when I needed the money to compete this year.

Point being is that everyone is responsible for their own financial situation and not anyone else especially the athletes rep

It's called business, and it means looking after yourself first (Arnold himself said that there were two of Joe Weider: "Business and private Joe")

You can sit there all day long and spew out your judgements, but at the end of the day the strong still beats the weak. The golden rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.

Good going for the Weiders, putting themselves in a position where most BB's had little leverage going into the negotiations. Such negotiations are always fun 8)

I would laugh too because Keith is right, I do sell that machine for the company.  Its a R.O.M Crosstrainer and it sells for 14,000.

I don't mind people laughing at me for selling this machine because when I sell them, I take home a good chunk of pocket change.... ;D

and how many have you sold moron?

In the good old days, which by the way weren't so good, most guys were delighted just to win a trophy and title and be featured in a magazine or two. That was all anyone needed. Looking back it isn't good enough because Joe sold the idea that if you got to be a he-man you got rewarded with the gal and money.

There was no prize money to speak of for winning the Mr Universe in those days. Even the so-called Professional Mr Universe. If you owned a gym you were classed a professional. Ditto if you posed for money and held seminars. That is still a better definition of professional that the nonsense the IFBB has come up with. Kiss butt and you might get your pro card.

Joe and Ben didn't give much back to the champs. Clarence Ross, Steve Reeves, George Eifferman, Larry Scott, Dave Draper, Leroy Colbert and many others weren't properly paid for their contributions to his magazines.
