Call me crazy, but that means a lot to me.  I don't understand people like my daughter's mom who "don't get it".

She's one of those people who thinks she's rich just because she lives near rich people.

That's funny, I think living around people who are wealthier than me further shows how not rich I am.

I love Vegas and I loved living there.  I am pretty sure my lifestyle there wasn't normal but there are allot of things to do in vegas.  I love Lake Mead.  Any water sport you can think of.  Hoover Dam is awesome.  The casinos are a ton of fun especially since so many exhibit a different theme.  Plenty of amusment parks.  Unlimited restaurants.  I like the heat.  But it does get really cold there.  In fact it snows on the strip sometimes which is really neat. Plenty of night clubs and strip joints.  Chicks everywhere.  Snow skiing less than an 1.5 hours away at Mt Charleston.  Unnlimited off road possibilities.  It is a fun place to live.  And cheap as anything.  I am used to living in the most expensive place in the country so when I moved to Vegas for a couple years I was in heaven.

Yeah, I understand that there is a lot of fun stuff there to do, but how do people outside of entertainment make any money there to live?  It's like Aspen - it is a blast to visit, but very few people can live there and make a living.

Is there some sort of industry in Vegas that I am completely unaware of? (ie: is there a corporate headquarters there, or some sort of tech center?).

The way I made my money to play was play craps.  I love it.  But I also ran a t-shirt company that my friend Pete Grymkowski owned.  We printed the Mr. Olympia t-shirts in 2000 and 2001.  We printed allot of casino shirts and even shirts for casino on the east coast.  Allot of entrepenuerial stuff there to do to.  But, a valet parking guy at the Mandalay Bay can easily do an average of $300 a day.  If you are a girl it is so easy to make money there.  Casinos pay very well but it's the tips.  My friend who has been there 4 years now just called me and he bought his 7th house (2 in Pahrump).  He rents them out and makes enough to pay his mortgage and pocket about $2000 a month.  Plus he works at a loan company and sell spas.  SO making money in Vegas is easy.  And there are a zillion gyms there.

Good point.  Whenever an area is growing fast, the growth is creating new income opportunities as well.  All those new people need services.

LOL @ "made money by playing craps"!

Shawn, did you know they were into the "other" kind of lifestyle at that point? Not just the sex/swinging because I think everyone's heard stories from CA about that, but had they already started down the cocaine path to methville?

There are a lot of BBers that do coke/meth/G/rolls.  I'm not saying its right, but its around
