You keep failing to take into consideration that we are talking about an extreme circumstance.
Social Psychology has already demonstrated that under EXTREME conditions, people's preferences, behaviors, and choices, become drastically modified. Zimbardo, a Social Psychologist, conducted a prison study and assigned people to either a guard or prisoner. Study subjects, who were assigned the role as guard, began to exhibit extreme forms of physical punishment toward the prisoners; and these were people with no history of aggressive behavior. The Milgram experiment also demonstrated that people would routinely shock another person under specific environmental conditions. Further, research has also shown that men who are in prison will have sex with other men; however, once they leave prison, they never have relations with men.
Good for you, you read up on psych 101. Just a complete non sequitur. You claim that under extreme conditions people's preferences change (implying but not stating sexual preferences, which would be germane to the topic at hand), yet neither of these experiments proves that in the slightest. Romantic and/or sexual attraction was part of neither of these studies. Try again.
So, yes, if a Zombie apocalypse (ZA) occurred, you would find men and women sleeping together who would normally not be attracted to each other. Further, you are using an extreme example to try and prove your point. While some men would not have sex with an elderly geriatric patient, most men in a zombie apocalypse would have sex with a women who was not exactly his type (if he preferred a women who was tall and slender, but the women was short and chunky).
You accuse me of using extremes to use my point, yet you are at least as guilty of doing so. Your premise is based on two pillars: All men have little or no self respect, and implicitly assuming all available options would be different yet still attractive. Both are patently ludicrous. You may have so little self respect that you would fuck any ugly hag, but not all men have such low standards. The MGTOW movement and Japan's sexlessness proves that even with availability of women, men frequently opt out.
That all available options would be acceptable, just different types of nice... I'm not even going into that in detail, it is such a ridiculous assumption. I invite you to look around you on the street. All those mingers you see, that is the population that would get sampled randomly. Extreme fatties likely excluded due to them being killed off. There'd be plenty of 200-Lb, pockmarked heavy smokers left alive, very few that would even qualify as good enough for a girl-next-door look.
Not many men are going to say, "Sorry, you're 5'4" with black hair, not 5'9" with blonde hair, therefore I cannot have sex with you, despite the fact that there are only 500 people left in the world). And, for what it's worth, yes, you would likely have some men, if not, a lot of men, having sex with elderly overweight people.
Moving the goal posts, unfounded assertions... where to start?
To expand on your example to make it realistic:
"Sorry, you're 5'4",
180 Lbs, with black hair,
an average if not downright ugly face and an average personality, not 5'9" with blonde hair, therefore I cannot have sex with you, despite the fact that there are only 500 people left in the world". Is the point starting to sink in?
And to your assertion about men (even a lot of men now?) having sex with elderly overweight people: I can see women and gay men doing that in case those people have resources. Simply and purely out of sexual needs? I still have not seen any proof for that. Then again: Possibly this depends on self respect, I cannot envision such a scenario for myself. Porn would be preferable to that.
And, where did I state that they would HAPPILY have sex with an elderly geriatric patient? Please, point that out to me.
So you would have sex against your will, and not just jerk off instead? In the normal world choosing to have sex with someone does imply some form of happiness. Unless one is a rape victim perhaps.
I never stated what the emotional content surrounding sex during a ZA would be. However, with a dwindling population, you would likely not be happy having sex with an elderly geriatric population; however, despite not being happy about this, you may still have sex with an elderly geriatric patient due to extreme circumstances (ZA).
May, may, may... surely with a large enough population anything can and will happen. Is it likely though? Still no proof for any of it.
As for your statement, "Many gays find the big, hairy musclebear look sexy, and simply will not fuck anyone else, no matter how traditionally attractive." Well, this is true with a population of 7 billion people (less so, obviously, if you are specifically talking about gay people). This would drastically change if the population dwindled to 500 after a ZA. But, your statement shows that you're still operating under the assumption that there is not a ZA, and thus, people still had a variety of options. They don't.
Of course I bow to your utterly unfounded certainty on how people behave during such an event. It is clear to me now that you do not need facts or logic, you have in fact lived it, to speak with such absolute certainty! I will throw my opini ons on an utterly fictitious scenario overboard and blindly follow your assertions instead.
"Also, how would they even know who was gay or not? Would the gays just make a move on every available
and armed man, running the distinct risk of getting beaten up or killed?" Probably not, but they could easily just say, "Hey, I'm gay."
Really, there is no way to demonstrate who is right, since a ZA has never occurred. However, there is ample evidence that under extreme circumstances, peoples behaviors, preferences, and choices, do change. Thus, I think I have more than enough evidence to suggest that people's sexual preferences would be set aside during a ZA. I obviously cannot assert that EVERY person would operate under my assumption; but, yeah, I think in a population of 500 (or however many are left: 5000, 10000), there is an extremely good chance that 3 gay guys (or straight) would likely have sex with each other, despite that person not being their type.
You can be as convinced of your own assertions as you like, knock yourself out. Taking proof for
some behavioural changes as proof for a complete throwing overboard of sexual preferences ("people's sexual preferences would be set aside during a ZA") which were not covered in the few things you do cite is an interesting scientific strategy. I'd call it fraudulent, if it wasn't simply based on a lack of understanding of the scientific method.
