Is that considered functional strength? I mean can he jump a wall? Climb a rope? Crawl under barbwire? These are all things that crossfitters do.
Of course it's functional strength (he's displaying its function in the video). His measure of absolute strength gives him the ability to apply X amount of force against opposition. Anything is functional if its developed with that use in mind. Form
becomes function.
If you wanna climb a rope, well,
climb a rope. If you want to be able to hoist several hundred pounds, don't spend your time and energy running marathons.
