For those of you who don't know Milos has been on record for curling 25 pounds dumbells! He has also seen at many gyms on the west coast casually and easily repping a broomstick with 3 toilet paper rolls on each side on bench for 6 repetetions and a whopping 5 toilet paper rolls per side for squat.

My best lifts are NOT measured by the amount of weight lifted...but precision of the execution and feeling throughout the each and every rep of each and every set...

Amount of weight is relevant ONLY to EGOTISTIC lifters that supposedly lift the house and a half for 6 perfect reps ::) in any particular exercise...and feed their ego with the "numbers"...

I am confident enough that I could train with anyone and hold my own...
I trained with numerous pros and usually follow THEIR routines...
I trained with Ronnie several times in my gym (at his best) and he can possibly tell you how that went...
I trained with Dorian numerous times and he can also confirm how I did...AND I DON'T TRAIN THE WAY THEY DO...If any of the pros come to train with me few things will happen...

Here are few pics...and many more you can see on my site ;)

Of course this kid can go pro one day.
Any reason to believe he cannot?

I was a "joke" of the town...when I said to few people that I am going to America and that I will go pro one day (competing at the Olympia)...
My father even invited a friend from California to come and tell me to my face that "in his street alone there are dozens of guys I could NEVER beat at the bodybuilding contest...On the beach where he goes there are hundreds of guys I cannot even be compared to ::)"...
He told me to stay at home and forget about my unrealistic dream...

I told him (together with my father) that I would be in the US on October 17th 1987...and that I will be ready for all of his neighboors and beach boys he just mentioned...
And I was ready...

The point is: IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT ACHIEVE...

Why would anyone think that SOME GUYS are superior to others and that only few could achieve some kind of greatness?

We are all made from flash and blood...and IF anyone is ready, willing and able to do what it takes - SKY IS A LIMIT...

Sucks for you, I used to think it was just cause I ate to close to workouts but I find even if I wait a hour it doesn't help at all. I would say just about every workout I need to lean over next to a trash can and try to not throw up, only rarely do I as I have mastered the art of holding it down after many previous failed attempts ;D

Slow negatives + leg training = vomit

Easy as pie.

(Exacebated by lack of pre workout nutrition).

The more sugar you have before the workout the harder it is to be in that state (the "vomit loop" - where you have to sit very quietly if you don't want to yack your guts out).

Pre workout nutrition is arguably just as useful as post workout.  If you consume sugar before your workout you'll have much more energy.  It has been said (I did not do the research) that optimally people would drink a protein drink with 30-60g of sugar in before and after the workout.  I found that drinking a coke or whatever was pretty great during workout also.

When you want to lose weight obviously you might play with that as its extra calories but there's no doubt that as long as you get enough sugar in you you'll be drastically lower in risk of feeling sick.  I've never vomited in the gym except when I was on low carb and I didn't drink (plus I did slow negative squats).

IME the opposite is true. The fact that insulin drives the nervous system, makes norandrenaline etc more potent means it will make you feel more nauseous. You can test this by taking EC with a large dose of dextrose, malto, vitargo etc and you'll find it "hits" much harder.

I find a meal with high fat preworkout makes me less nauseous. A pizza or a burger is much better than a dextrose/whey shake for example from this standpoint.

Jesus christ Milos, what do your regular gym-visitors say when they see bodybuilders lying around the gym looking half dead?  ;D

What would you recommend (trainingwise) for mass gaining?

Thanks !

he throws proper form combined with accentuated slow negatives, descending (drop) sets, giant sets and forced reps and puts it all together in a seemingly never ending torture session that has to be experienced to believe.

there is no love in the koloseum once training commences.

Dam Milos looking at those pics makes me feel like I aint been doing shyt in the gym - I have never pushed myself to vomit. Only got that feeling once when I had eaten just b4 working out. I've done 3-a-day practices while playing Div II NCAA football, passed out almost had a heat stroke once but never called Earl ???

What does that tell you?
You think you train hard enough?

Milos have you ever trained with Jay Cutler? I mean he seems to be one of the hardest if not the hardest training pros out there.  I think he if anyone could challenge you in a 'first to puke' workout  ;D

Actually I didn't...
He trained in my gym few times and I don't ever question his work ethics, intensity, strength...as I saw him train like a mad dog...super intensity coupled with incredible amount of weight...and super short rest periods in between sets. Hell, his wife Carrie /often his training partner/ can kick many guys ass as well /just like my wife Milamar/...
He is NOT Mr. Olympia by the accident...EVERYTHING HE DOES is well planed and executed perfectly...

Very few people are as driven and as committed as Jay - and for all those people that think Jay is a "one year wonder" - THINK AGAIN.
Guy could/should have won back in 2001...
If he did (and many ME INCLUDED) believe that he deserved the title that year - do you think that he would have lose easily next year?
If you remember 2002 Ronnie was at his smallest ever and God knows how and why he won that year again...
It is fair to assume that judges would easily given to Jay title in 2002 IF HE HAD COMPETED.
Next year -2003 at the Ironman Jay was at his absolute best...
Again, he dominated 3 AC championships and IF he had focused on Olympia rather than AC - he could have quite possibly have 6 Mr. Olympia titles by now...CHASING Haney's record...

So - let's give the credit where credit is due...

Oh, the question was IF I trained with Jay before...and I am sad to say - I didn't...BUT BELIEVE ME - I WILL...

Jay - if you are listening...COME FOR A LITTLE LEG WORKOUT...We all know you need it (like Eskimo's need more snow ::) - but nevertheless - I want to pack Mr. "Olympia vomit flavor protein shake"...as the Koloseum Gym special...)

i'm sure he's terrified of the 135lb. smith machine squat/95lb. lunge workout followed by 1 hour of posing for pictures lying on the floor and puking in the garbage can for effect "workout" you'll put him through. ::)

unexpectedly, he is gonna be way bigger like my friend Ogawa.
Ogawa used to eat 6 times and train like typical BBer and weight 200lbs. But now, eat 3 times whatever he want and without supplement and gear. He weigh 300lbs.The secrets is not in gear or training, its in our mind.

Milos, I have a question.
Of course training hard is a must in bodybuilding. However your pictures are showing something more than just hard training.  Is there a specific reason to put the body in that state? How do you think that going far beyond failure until vomit will be beneficial for the body?
Thanks.

The illusion of the stage can sometimes play great tricks on the mind.

Training hard is very relative term...
While here on this board many believe in EGO and MACHO training "go heavy or go home" type of thing - I believe otherwise...

There are many ways to increase the intensity - and here I am just showing what we can accomplish with even "light" or moderate weight...

It is NOT only SUPER SLOW training - there are many variables...
Tempo is just ONE of the variables - and contrary to what many believe - I have constantly different speed of the movements...
Some things are done SUPER SLOW, some SLOW...MODERATE..FAST... and even SUPER FAST...

Some reps are done with PAUSE - in the lower position, some in the middle of the movement...some at the end...
Pause could be done WITH the maximal contraction...moderate.. .or no contraction at all (forcing muscles to fire up after COMPLETELY relaxing...)...

Some reps are done explosively...some controlled...some without a force - only using muscle contraction...

Some reps are done traditional way...some with slow and controlled eccentric part and explosive concentric (common practice for years)...but some are done exactly the opposite - fast eccentric and slow concentric...

Some reps are FULL...some PARTIAL...Partial could be also separated in phases...

Some exercises are done traditional ...and some in super-set fashion or even giant sets fashion...Constantly INCREASING intensity by increasing ONE or MORE variables with each consecutive set (load being just one of them...) etc..etc..etc

I see that "limited minds" here see only amount of weight and they are laughing they heads off when they see 25 pound plate on Smith Machine...or 135 lbs in any particular exercise...
They have no idea WHAT happened BEFORE that - and usually the weight that you see on the pictures is exactly appropriate weight - that would give hard time to anyone that attempts to lift it THE WAY I WOULD REQUEST...

And if ANYONE...and I do mean ANYONE - believes that this is a cake walk - come to Koloseum Gym and show us what you got...

My favorite Latin sentence is: "Hic Rhodos, hic salta"...used in ancient times to invite ANY "getbig tough guys" (read: big talkers who claim how incredible they really are) to come to Island Rhodos and PROVE what they claim...["Here in Rhodos you jump"]

If you say you can do something - than you should have no problem proving it...

So, for any getbig heroes here is invitation: "Hic Koloseum, hic salta..."

Thanks for your answer Milos and I totally agree with what you wrote... there are many different ways to make a workout intense.
However my question was another. Is really necessary to train so hard, with so much intensity, that in the end you have to puke? I mean, even if I like to workout hard at the gym (in some of the ways that you described) I just would stop if I feel that I'm getting sick. No way I would vomit at the gym!
What's the purpose of going on until vomit? Why isn't healthier to just stop one instant before?

this is the same thing that sometimes make ronnie appear small...ronnie is like a massive monster on stage but if you see him closely with clothes on he kinda looks bit narrow and small despite being 300lbs...just look at these pics..although ronnie is 305lbs in these pics but to my eyes he looks like 270-280lbs range

There is no purpose of going on (training) until vomit...If it happens - so be it...
Certainly it doesn't happen all the time.
Stopping one instant before?
And when do you know that "instant" is coming?
Therefore - if you want to be "healthier" and NOT risk possibility of vomiting - stop 2-3-5...100 instants before...or better yet - don't even train. Just drink some beer and make sure you stop "instant" (read: bottle) before - so you don't vomit ;)

Shock promotes growth...and improvements...
If you continuously doing something your body is accustom to - body would have no reason (or very little) to change...
Shocking the body with something out of the ordinary could make you puke - without really having even a fair warning...

My goal is NOT to make anyone puke - this is just "side effect" of intense training...
BTW - I puked so many times I can even tell you the number...

Milos, I read in a flex article way back where you said one time that you use what we call "imaginary weight" where you can get a pump on your bicep without using any weights at all. I believe this has to do with the "Mind and muscle" connection thing

YES.

Try to squeeze any particular muscle AS HARD AS YOU CAN for several seconds (start with maybe 5...)
Try to do 3 - 5 sets of 10 - 15 reps...and let us all know what you felt ;)

Note: I said AS HARD AS YOU CAN - which means MAXIMAL CONTRACTION.

I see that many times people do CONTRACT the muscle - but NOT maximally...just enough to complete the rep and maybe feel the muscle being contracted - but certainly not AS HARD AS THEY POSSIBLY COULD.

There is HUGE DIFFERNECE between the two.

Try in any particular exercise and you'll see what I am talking about.

Don't just squeeze...squeeze the "living hell" out of you ( ::))...Learn to connect with the muscle and squeeze in every rep...than apply more and more pressure to the point when you will know how to squeeze maximally EVERY TIME!

I'm gonna try that. Cause there was a strenght and conditioning coach from a local university where I live who said that it's only a theory and that it wouldn't provide no benefits for his athlete.

So those guys doesn't apply any bodybuilding principles at all?. I would believe that a lot of sports starting with Football would learn a great deal from bodybuilding, giving the fact that all NFL teams have a strenght coach. Shouldn't those guys know the whole nine yard and then some?. Never mind they lift for football, but in my opinion weight training in General shouldn't be for one specific purpose

Fair enough Milos... I can see your point now. It's just a side effect that might or might not happen, and not something that you're aiming at like an indicator of intense training.
However it never happened to me... I try to give my best at every workout (and I get some progress to pay me back of my efforts), but since I don't have competitive ambitions I guess I never crossed the line that can lead to the effects described above.
By the way, I learnt a lot from your DVDs, I recommend them.

Sorry but I know many people who are very busy, barely even workout and look bigger then you, you talk about how much of an overgrown mass of muscle you were yet no pics of that only you doing gay modeling for the same people Derek Anthony does. Oh and some of those kids def seemed mildly retarded, imagine a 15-16 year old that can't read or kids up to the age of 20 that couldn't even come close to passing the GED test even after 3 months of preporation :-\ ;D

Many sports can benefit from weight-lifting principles bodybuilders use...
Super-slow method and maintaining maximal contraction at the peak of the movement however is "bodybuilding specific"...

Quiting is NOT THE OPTION...
You are right back to take your turn after you puke...Sometimes you can skip the set...but there is no "walking away"...

You walk away once - you are never allowed back in...

Also - IF I see that someone is just not trying hard enough - after one fair warning - I will send them home BEFORE we finish with message to "come back when he is ready to train"...
And guys that trained with me KNOW that I am serious...I sent few home in the middle of the training and no-matter how hard they try to convince me they would try harder - I would insist that - they had their chance...

Once on the gym floor - I am not their friend...and good coach can't be considerate friend feeling sorry....

Hey Milo's i remember watching that Web cast of your training tips last year and at first i thought you were crazy going super slow and light etc, but i gave it ago and man how awesome it was. I finished an exercise physiology degree last year and currently Personal training. Another personal trainer int he gym and myself have got two guys doing bodybuilding and I'm applying milo's methods and the other guy is doing the more traditional lift heavy and my guy has made the best gains i.e size and condition.

I also like how you pointed out in an earlier post that " Many sports can benefit from weight-lifting principles bodybuilders use...
Super-slow method and maintaining maximal contraction at the peak of the movement however is "bodybuilding specific"...  I've studied under top professors in certain  sporting areas and feel that when it comes to bodybuilding science they are lacking. I felt at uni that i had more of an advantage over my peers with training principles and more understanding because of my bodybuilding background.

As far as i am concerned You Milo's are one of the leading authorities in bodybuilding training and conditioning.

Do you read alot of books?? been to uni or anything??? you often say things that are very inline from what I've learnt through physiology.

never got into slow mo. terrified of the possibility of getting slow (in movement) which, for me, would run antagonistic to why i got into weight training.

the only purposefully slow thing i do is the eccentric motion which i've always done.

Ego, didn't know I had a problem with that, I believe your the one with the fragile ego here, you need to post pics to prove to everyone that you "lift weights" but in my case I don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone on here. If I go to the ASC this year I plan to hang out with a bunch of Getbiggers, why show pics when I can just meet the people face to face. Posting pics online is not always safe, my friend came on here posted pics and received some disturbing e-mails and pms from homos, true story.

Right now I am reading - masterpiece from Mendel Friedman - "Absorption and Utilization of Amino Acids" simultaneously with Ingrid's Kohlstadt's "Scientific evidence for musculoskeletal, bariatric, and sports nutrition"...

yeah, ok milos. with all respect, there were these guys, ronnie coleman and dorian yates and they ALWAYS trained with heavy weights and they were both about twice your size.

considering that you took the same drugs and everything, maybe it was your training 'ideas' that sucked.

who knows. if you committed yourself to a bit more heavy duty training instead of just 'going for the burn' maybe you wouldn't have needed so much synthol in your arms.

just a thought. ;D

Super-slow is just damn painful. Tried it for 1 month back in competition days + it was a good change of pace, but so completely not fun at all, that I stopped.

Blood + Guts/Heavy Duty training actually much "easier".

It's FUN to psyche yourself up for a big lift, or low-rep heavy set.

ABSOLUTE TORTURE to concentrate throughout a super-slow or high-rep workout.

In 2005 I performed an experiment with Super-Slow chins on the assisted chin machine.  10 seconds up, pause, 10 seconds down.  The results after a few months were very noticable and both my strength and mass on my back were improved considerably.  I tried super-slow with other bodyparts, but the bodyparts that responded best to super-slow for me were calves and back.  Other exercises I got stronger, but didn't notice much improvement in muscle mass .

But Milos, is there anything more important in that book than BCAA's are very important.....Take em pre, during, and post workout??? and a constant flow of amino's in your system is optimal for muscle gains???
