if you bench 500 or over either now or in the past post here, in the past few weeks it seems that we've had an incredible rash of 500lb. benchers coming out of the woodwork and i'm having a hard time keeping them all straight.

Maybe they meant on the Hammer Strength bench press instead of with a barbell, and just neglected to include that little bit of information...

If Getbig formed a weightlifting team we'd win gold in the next Olympics.

We can't include Mat Duvall in this list, cause the only time he probably comes down to 500 lbs is when he's curling or doing barbell front raises. His Military press, his bench etc are all waaaaaaaay higher ::)

Are you saying that Matt doesn't wrestle big, sweaty musclebears in the ring to show his wrestling prowess, but rather because he simply likes the physical contact with those beefy 'studs', not to mention he'd get to perve at them in the showers later, Squadfather?
Edit: Forgot to mention this - Dan18 has the kind of incredible genetics that makes him take his bench PR from 360 lbs for a single to 405 lbs for a triple, in a span of just 5 days. I did a simple calculation based on this astonishing progress and according to my extrapolation, he should be a member of the exclusive '500 lb bench club' in just over 10 and a half days hahahahahaha.
-
Add me to the list. 500x2 in July 2005 at 255lbs.
-
If I do 250 X 2, does that count? 8)

I bet Ronie Colemen cuold bench 500 for 10 reps easy.

I'll put my money on Bast pulling more girls at the bar than you.

I train mainly for the shirted bench so I'm not sure. Probably mid 400s. The only raw benching I do is close grip for triples.

Competiton only?
Bench shirt or t-shirt?
Gym style, clean touch-n-go?
t-shirt in the gym, a slow tounch and go. Have never heard of a bench shirt till I moved to Hawaii and got involved with Gus Rethwisch and announced the World Record Breakers. Thats with my feet off the ground too. I bench with no feet on the ground almost all the time. I could do 500 for 4 or 5 with pauses. I would lay 500 on my chest and pretend I couldn't lift it when Ray was showing new people around the gym. They would get all scared and he would just laugh and tell them I was playing. 405 back then felt so light I really thought no matter how weak I got or old I got I would always be able to lift 405. Man did that go wrong.

:) Not you Keith.... but I'm glad you gave me the facts. I meant for the Getbig 500 pound bench press club.
Dude, feet-off-the-floor? That's extremely hard, IMO.

Hangclean,
Besides putting up 500+ on the bench, you almost did twice your bodyweight. As discussed before, that's a great milestone.

I herniated my L4 & L5 and couldn't do some things. It felt better benching with no feet on the ground.

Shit Tommy those are awesome lifts. I really never even thought once about competing in powerlifting way back. I really didn't even know about events. Not until I moved to Hawaii did I know about them extensively. Powerlifting is so big here I was around it all the time. Never saw a shirt till the 1st World Record Breakers I emceed. I talked to Pete on Thursday and forgot all about mentioning you. I will try next time.
-
Thanks Keith. :) It was a long time ago... almost another life.
My feet-off-the-floor bp would have been about 25-30% less :(. Those fvckers are hard!
-
I have never used any aas. I am 6'2. The most I have maxed with is 445 in the bench press. I have the reach of one who is 6'5 tall, which I think says a lot for having such long arms. The time of my bench max I weighed #225. I was also able to rep 315 for 12 reps at 3 sets. 225 for 25 reps.
I feel I was well on my way to 500, I recieved intense shoulder bursitis do to so much repetetive maxing in short time.
-
Duhhh...if I do a 500 lb. bench bump, while being a drug-bloated, "juiced to the gills", pharmaceutical freak, wearing an Inzer bench shirt, and using a "spotter assist", does dat count ???
-
Wolfe can do more than that. He was fried from putting on his first meet and working on no sleep.
I'm sure of it...I was just using that as an example of a world class bencher numbers, compared to these internet posers ;D

Can I join your club? 250 twice on a very good day.

John Michael Burrell benched pressed RAW (touch-and-go, hips remaining on bench, wearing only a T-shirt and shorts) 500 lbs. in the Georgia Tech Barbell Club's weight room, weighing under 200 lbs., in 1961.
This phenomenal lift was witnessed by former ('59) Mr. America, Harry Johnson, and myself (a former Teen-Age National Olympic weightlifting champion) and others.
In 1961 (three years before official competitive powerlifting began), this was a truly unbelievable feat of bench pressing strength!! Of course, in those days it was done totally DRUG-FREE and without the aid of any support gear whatsoever!
It is interesting to note that some three-plus years later, Bill Seno held the "official" national BP powerlifting record at "only" 440 lbs. in the 198 lb. class. By 1964, of course, drug-use and support gear were being used in powerlifting.
"Mickey" was also a former Jr. National Olympic weightlifting champion (1959, in the 181 lb. class) and did an OFFICIAL Olympic BB press (uhhh...that's a press done while standing-up, where you have to clean the bar to the shoulders, first-all done totally unassisted, of course!) of no less than 350 lbs. while weighing 220 lbs.
-

If it matters to anyone, I did my SHIIRTED (single ply) 534 in a meet drug free. I guess that doesnt matter to anyone here though, since most of the impressive lifts are done by guys on roids. I still feel like I accomplished something in that meet, because I feel most of the guys I competed against were drug free , so everyone had an even playing ground. Not all powerlifting meets are like that though....."drug tested" or not.

Hangclean, if what you say is true (and, apparently it is since you did it in an OFFICIAL meet) that is an outstanding feat of strength! Congratulations!! How much did you weigh?
Try and understand the "powerlifting world of 1961" when John Burrell benched his 500 at under 200 lb. bwt. In those days, Pat Casey was approaching a 600 lb. BP as the greatest BP ever. Doug Hepburn had claimed a 580 lb. lift, as the most ever BP, back in the mid-fifties. Paul Anderson was rumored to have done 600. Of course, all of these great strongmen weighed over 250 lbs.
At a bwt. of under 200 lbs., ONLY the great Marvin Eder (to the best of my recollection) had been credited with a 500 lb. BP.
Some of you iron game historians out there can check out these "off-the-top-of-my head" BP figures.
Prior to 1964 (when official powerlifting began and AAS was regularly used by lifters), they had "Odd Lift" contests, instead. For example, in 1962 I competed in the East Tennessee State Odd Lift Meet and did a 520 deadlift, 355 bench, and a 155 lb. BB curl with my hips against a board at a bwt, of approx, 198 lbs., drug-free, and wearing only a T-shirt and shorts.

But, here's another one just for a pharmacuetical freak like yourself...Iron Man Lifting News; April 1959; Vol. 5, No. 7; page 3.

when I was younger there was a gym about 4 blocks from my house rumor had it that all the big "names" in BB and powerlifting were working out there casue powerhouse pissed them off. Anyway I was in there when I was about 19 and this guy was doing dumbbell presses with the 170's like they were nothing, grabs the heaviest weights in the place which I think were 190's and does a bunch of reps. Now this was a big guy...I mean really just a big guy, at least 6'5 maybe even taller and he weighed in at probably about 400lbs, he then went into the main room and next time I walked by him he was benching 495 and he got a few reps. I guess this guy had world records and stuff, he worked as a bouncer and owned a lawnmowing service in the area. I saw him about 10 years later and he did the exact same routine...I started talking to him and he was doing the same thing with his life, still a bouncer and still owned a lawncutting service, he claimed to have put up 600 in competition. don't know why I told that story...just seemed cool when I started.
btw-he had terrible body oder back when I wa 19 and still had it last time I saw him. I also heard a buddy of mine sucker punched him at a bar and knocked him out...my buddy is about 5'7 and 150 so I don't know how true it was but I've heard it from a few guys on a couple of different occasions...

Yes I wouldnt believe it since we all know bodybuilders are the worlds best fighters and impervious to a well timed punch on the chin... ::) tool

I would but I cant find a bodybuilder to give me the ninja touch of death ::)

you better be careful SS, if you don't believe every claim that "richard2004" makes he'll accuse you of being on steroids. ::)
Who gives a flyin' fvck what you and your fellow "Squad member drug freaks" believe!!
And, here's another "fact" for you...you and your fellow druggies will, in all probability, be worm meat before your ages reach the approx. 52 years that I've been weight-training regularly! ;D

Look out now db2431, the "Getbig Squad member gang" has a direct pipeline to "The Craigers"...and you might just get a contract for a hit to be taken out on you, too!?

see Dick you're the typical hypocrite!......you call us all druggies but you husband told us you need 4 Viagra to get a woody cause your prostate is all fucked up from all the wieners you've had in it.

Uhhh...being the father of FIVE (5) children and, like Jack LaLanne, since I didn't do the AAS my system hasn't shut down producing test...so, in my 60's, I can still knock up your gf!!
Tell me "superstar", with your acorn testes and shootin' blanks cuz your natural test. has shut down due to all the artificial test. you've been injecting/ingesting...please, tell me about your reproductive accomplishments!?

275. Not to impressive anymore, is it.
that's still good in a single ply...these guys have no idea what it takes to complete a full press in a shirt. i've been training in a titan F6 for about 6 months and it's like learning how to bench all over again.
just remember these guys have no life except to make fun of people 1000 miles away on the internet...you win by default.
you are also drug free unlike the skinny boy who is trying to make fun of you...he cheated and still lost his contest.

do you use the same shirt for benching as you do for squating? Or is it a different one for each lift?

lol...no.
you use a suit for squats and deadlifts...

AHAAHAH!! Yes, I love the old burnts in the gyms that approach me now and then and say, "dang, you're a big fella....saw you liftin those dbs. You know (oh brother here it fvckin comes!!), back in my prime (insert a 10 minute bullshit spew of outrageous stats followed by two minutes of nonsensical, unsolicited training advice from some random marine from WWI that he used to train with before his rotator cuffs, lower back, knees, wrists, ankles, tendons, ligaments, muscles all were injured leaving him unable to train for the next 40 years up until this moment in time in which they all magically started working again)."
Now, now, MOS, I just want to let you know that I'm prayin' you'll actually reach 52 yrs. of age...why, that will equal the approx. no. of years I've been weight-training regularly!
Oh by the way, when I'm in the gym I'm too busy working out to engage in frivilous conversation...particula rly with drug freaks lifting inflated poundages!
Of course, any veteran iron man with a job/school and family responsibilities has their own completely equipped home gym...so that they can train like a demon w/o havin' to put up with those gabby, noisy, gym druggies, 'roid rage psychos, the shiity piped-in music, and those chicken-shiit "health club" rules ...to break up one's concentration/intensity.
You know MOS, the really sad part about all of this is that none of dem drug-bloated pharmaceutical freaks will ever know what they could have actually lifted HONESTLY...and, any comparison of their inflated lifts with the great CLEAN strongmen of the past is a SHAM!
-

"Mickey" was also a former Jr. National Olympic weightlifting champion (1959, in the 181 lb. class) and did an OFFICIAL Olympic BB press (uhhh...that's a press done while standing-up, where you have to clean the bar to the shoulders, first-all done totally unassisted, of course!) of no less than 350 lbs. while weighing 220 lbs.
what the fuck would an "assisted" clean and press be? does someone make a clean and press suit that i'm not aware of? only time i ever hear those two phrases next to each other is when i get my dry cleaning.
-

Uhhh...in this age of "bench press obsession", I was concerned that most of the current generation didn't even know what a barbell military/Olympic clean and press was (or how it was performed)...since so much bench pressing is done with all kinds of "assistance"!

Q: "How much drugs did you use? What kind of cycles?Do you have any health problems from the drugs?"
A: My cycles were always contest specific. I never took drugs just to take them or be big.
Cycles would be anywhere from 10 weeks to 18 weeks, depending on the contest date and my weight class requirements. Dosages? Back then we thought we were taking a lot, but guys today wouldn't think so.
Lots of Ciba-Geigy Dianabol, plenty of Deca, Test, Primobolan tabs, Equipoise, Anavar (especially if weight class limits were crucial), Suspension & adernaline pre-training and meet day. A fair amount of Anadrol, but I never reacted too well to Anadrol... my resting heart rate would go through the roof and I would actually lose body weight.
Health problems? Minimal. I frequently suffered from petechial hemorrhages (bleeding eyes) and I'd most likely have more hair today, but I'm OK in that regard. ;D
Somewhere (storage) I've got my old notebooks with all the # & mg's for almost every cycle. Somewhere...

Absolutely!!
Gee golly gosh, then I can actually qualify for Getbig's exclusive "500 lb. bench bounce bump club". After all, the mighty bench bounce bump uses a whoppin' 20% of the muscles of the body (or is it 25%...I keep forgettin'?!) while totally ignoring the body's core strength. What a test of real overall body strength!
Anyhow, to avoid comparing "apples with oranges" and trying to "level the playing field", since I did an OFFICIAL PL contest 355 lb. bench, touch-and-go, hips/glutes remaining on the bench throughout the lift, as a drug-free 198 lb. class lifter, wearing only a t-shirt, then the following adjustments to this 355 lb. OFFICIAL PL contest bench press can fairly/honestly be made...
(1) add at least 33% to ones' drug-free poundage (says an unimpeachable source such as Jeff Everson...editor of Planet Muscle, with official lifts of a snatch over 300 lbs., clean and jerk over 400 lbs., bench press over 500 lbs., plus being a physique contest champion, as well as the trainer of the most famous FBBer of all-time: Cory Everson!) by "juicin' to the gills" on AAS and GH and adding 50-100 lbs. bwt.
(2) add another 50-100 lbs. (at least!) for wearing a multi-ply Inzer bench shirt.
Thus: 355 + 355(33%) + 50 (being real conservative for the shirt's added poundage) = 355 + 118 + 50 = 523 lbs!!
So Getbig mods, where's my fvckin' award/certificate/trophy for qualifying as a "Getbig 500 lb. bench bounce bumper"??!
-
Oppps...and, finally, let's not forget the "belly toss" style of bench bounce bumping as demonstrated by Squadfather... ;D
&mode=related&search=
What's even more humorous is when you see them belly tossing the bar with their feet on the edge of the bench, so they can arch even higher!
-
ive done 620lbs raw, no b.s. therea a couple of guys who post on here who have seen me do it. did it at a bw of 250. Have done 405 for 20, 455 for 14

if all of Louie's "pupils" are so strong why did George Halbert almost lose his mind when Magnus ver Magnusson was watching him prepare backstage at a meet and told him that he wasn't going anywhere when George asked him to leave ? Magnus said that George could barely bench 425 without his shirt and he's supposedly done 700 in a meet, what were they hiding?

a lot of shirt specialists have shitty raw benches just because their strength is so geared toward the equipment. gene rychlak i don't think ever goes above 455 raw and he's aiming to break mendy's shirted record. then you get a guy like nick winters who's near the raw record and can't get jack shit from a shirt.

Gee gollies, does that mean that my puny, all-natural, OFFICIAL PL contest, 355 lb. bench bump RAW, at a 200 lb. bwt., would add up to an "adjusted" 500 lb. bench bump, by "juicin' to the gills" (enabling me to add 50-100 lbs. of drug-bloated bwt.) and wearing a multi-ply Inzer bench bump shirt??!

I talked to two of my friends here at the gym. One is samoan (6'1" 360) and the other is a part Hawaiian (6' 2" 360). About the same size except that the shorter one is just unreal. They are both 100% drug free since they only really lift for fun. The taller one wants to compete but hasn't yet. He is really close to the some record. He benches almost 600. We are going to video tape them both benching at the same time (benches back to back) 500 for 8 reps. We just got to get them to the gym at the same time. The shorter ones cousin is in town and he said he could do 500 for at least 8 reps too so we may have all three doing it at once. I thought that would be a cool video. No belts, no bench shirts just raw power. I would say at this gym we have maybe 10 guys who can bench at least 500. I think the taller guy is the only one though who can bench close to 600. On Oahu there are several who bench 600. No big squatter at this gym anymore. We had one white guy who moved to Hilo who did 835 at a gym meet. That was after he was also spotting and changing weights for everyone. The squatters all live on Oahu. Never really seen anyone deadlift anything special here except in competitions, but not in the gym

if you bench 500 or over either now or in the past post here, in the past few weeks it seems that we've had an incredible rash of 500lb. benchers coming out of the woodwork and i'm having a hard time keeping them all straight.
I bench 605 without suit and no drugs :-X
