I can't wear jeans cause my quads are too big  ;D

it's funny when I hear that cause my trainer as some serious big legs, about 29-30 inches at 6'0 and he doesn't have a probleme wearing jeans

 Here's a story I told a few times.

 I know this local guy. Now he has a good physique for sure but he always falls just short of winning his weight class at a show and he competes all the time. (2-3x's) year.

 He never won his class or ever qualified for National level shows. He's 32 and still lives with his parents. He hasn't had a day job or any kind of job for at least...5-6 years. Like most BB's, especially at the local/state/national level he nickle/dimes gear and drugs like viagra, vicodin etc...

 Last year for the Arnold Classic he drives up with me and he was like..."Yea, bro...I'm going...my dad gave me $200 to spend...you think I'll need more than that? Should I ask him for another $100 or something?"  The nig gas like 32 or 33. Graduated from highschool in 92...whatever.

 So he lives the life, eats, sleeps, tans, shaves, trains, hustles gear etc...

 His goal is to qualify for nationals because then he has to place in Top-2 to get 'recognition' and a ProCard. So last summer he comes to the gym and tells me...

 " Yo, Block...the Fire Department sent me a letter...they want me to report to the Academy next month...looks like they want to hire me..."

 I was excited for him. I told him "Fcuk YEA! Do it! That's AWESOME!"

 6 years prior he took the written exam, passed, passed the drug test a year after that, passed the two physical tests and he gets the letter saying he's hired.

 Tells me..."Fcuk that dude...I aint doing that siht! I'm gonna do the Indiana State Show...I aint even gonna be all running those stairs, running around with hose and that gear on...all fkn cant eat and sleep like I need to...fuck that! Thats like...all day at the academy...fcuk that!"

 I said..." thats the best job in the city...work only 81 days a year? You could still be a BB with that job...fkn 45K-55K/year? Wasn't your dad a fireman?"

 "Yea, but look at his fatass...naaaa...fcuk that dude. I need to get ready for the show...I sent my pics to Beverly and they're sponsoring the show so fcuk that I got to focus on that, man...you know? "

 "So you're going to turn it down?"

 "Yea...I aint even about to loose all my weight...you know eh...you know 'so and so'? When he went through the police academy he lost like 40lbs from all the running...fcuk that, man...Fire is the same...all that running and siht...no way man! "

 Now is that HARDCORE or what?

 Using straps even for warmup sets of lat pulldowns with 90lbs.

 Using chalk for warmup sets.

 Using knee wraps and tightening the belt for warmup squats w/ 135lbs.

 Throwing 2 scoops of CellTech in a shaker cup and drinking it down while looking at yourself in the mirror in the locker-room.

i have a guy at my gym who comes in pressing the 85 lb. dumbells,  he must have been watching a ronnie dvd all day because he was quoting the dvd.  "Yeah buddy, light weight ain't nothin but a peanut".  slams the "huge" weights down with a loud screem.  i wanted to walk over and give him a good backhand.  the best part is he was yelling this all so loud i could hear him from the other side of the gym.

The most annoying to me are:

4.  Guys that drink damn cell-tech or some shit like that in the locker room.  Unreal.

5.  Guys that make a ton of noise when they are lifting little ass weights.  This one guy had been hitting my gym back in October and November and was borderline YELLING when doing incline presses with 30 POUND DUMBELLS.  Now I know why I wear headphones and don't pay attention to others that much unless I have to.

6.  Guys that don't train legs.  Always some bullshit excuse as to why, too.  I'd love to hear a guy just admit he's TOO LAZY to train them...

7.  Guys that wear pants in the gym year round because they don't train legs and are ashamed of what they look like...pants with a string tank top is the worst.

8.  Fat women in spandex.

9.  Anyone who's abusing steroids that has no desire to compete.  There is an idiot in every gym in the country who probably takes as much shit as Ronnie Coleman but doesn't even do shows...he just wants to have the biggest arms at the nightclub...and he doesn't train legs...

If you eat enough and are dedicated to eating CLEAN you can make gains doing this....

I started doing 45 minutes of cardio over a year ago and have gained nearly 9 lbs of LEAN mass.  My bodyfat was 8.3 at 183 in Jan 06, now its 8.1 and I weighed 192 Monday   :)


But some peoples idea about eating clean is grilled chicken sandwiches from Wendy's    ::)

Carrying around you $15 GNC shaker bottle in the gym, for everyone to see.

Putting far to much weight on the squat rack bar,  unracking it, shaking for a few seconds, re-racking then stand there for 5 minutes like you actually did something others should be impressed with

Throwing 60's down so they make more noise than the 125's

Stopping mid-set to see who is watching you.

Wearing hair gel and/or cologne

Debating with cronies at the gym how quickly you can get drunk after, but of course you have to take you muscle tech first

Carrying around you muscle tech bottles in your bag, and displaying them in the change room so others can see you are serious.

think shoulder bis, chest bi's, tris, bis, is an amazing work out cycle, but it has to be done twice a week

Missing a work out because they forgot their no-explode at home, and if Ronnie can't train with it how can they?

Keeping the bottles of every supplement you have ever bough on display in your room to impress anyone who comes over

When someone starts doing more weight than you on an exercise, point out their terrible form and why it allows them to do more, or if that fails claim an old sports injury means you have to stop this exercise and slink away to another area of the gym

eons ago when i did have a legit 28 inch waist..i couldn't buy jeans to fit my legs..well the 28 inch waist legs wouldn't fit..well..they'd fit but they'd look very very gay...

Here's a story I told a few times.

 I know this local guy. Now he has a good physique for sure but he always falls just short of winning his weight class at a show and he competes all the time. (2-3x's) year.

 He never won his class or ever qualified for National level shows. He's 32 and still lives with his parents. He hasn't had a day job or any kind of job for at least...5-6 years. Like most BB's, especially at the local/state/national level he nickle/dimes gear and drugs like viagra, vicodin etc...

 Last year for the Arnold Classic he drives up with me and he was like..."Yea, bro...I'm going...my dad gave me $200 to spend...you think I'll need more than that? Should I ask him for another $100 or something?"  The nig gas like 32 or 33. Graduated from highschool in 92...whatever.

 So he lives the life, eats, sleeps, tans, shaves, trains, hustles gear etc...

 His goal is to qualify for nationals because then he has to place in Top-2 to get 'recognition' and a ProCard. So last summer he comes to the gym and tells me...

 " Yo, Block...the Fire Department sent me a letter...they want me to report to the Academy next month...looks like they want to hire me..."

 I was excited for him. I told him "Fcuk YEA! Do it! That's AWESOME!"

 6 years prior he took the written exam, passed, passed the drug test a year after that, passed the two physical tests and he gets the letter saying he's hired.

 Tells me..."Fcuk that dude...I aint doing that siht! I'm gonna do the Indiana State Show...I aint even gonna be all running those stairs, running around with hose and that gear on...all fkn cant eat and sleep like I need to...f**k that! Thats like...all day at the academy...fcuk that!"

 I said..." thats the best job in the city...work only 81 days a year? You could still be a BB with that job...fkn 45K-55K/year? Wasn't your dad a fireman?"

 "Yea, but look at his fatass...naaaa...fcuk that dude. I need to get ready for the show...I sent my pics to Beverly and they're sponsoring the show so fcuk that I got to focus on that, man...you know? "

 "So you're going to turn it down?"

 "Yea...I aint even about to loose all my weight...you know eh...you know 'so and so'? When he went through the police academy he lost like 40lbs from all the running...fcuk that, man...Fire is the same...all that running and siht...no way man! "

If you want to make a living through bodybuilding you pretty much have to use.  For anyone using besides those making a living off of training, they are idiots.  (I think the guys trying to make a living off of it and using are idiots as well, fwiw, for letting themselves get sucked into a lifestyle and vocation that requires them to break the law to make a living.  They might as well have been mob hit men).

AHAHAAHAHAHAH!!!   Sweet thread!!


List of things I'm guilty of from my early training years  :-[ :

1.  Wearing the xs t-shirt to train.
2.  Wearing a weight belt on almost everything.
3.  Carrying a copy of FLEX with me everywhere.
4.  Pointing out the flaws in every guy bigger than me.
5.  Training arms 30 times per week and legs once per month.
6.  Displaying old, empty supplement jugs so friends would be impressed (they weren't LOL).
7.  Bringing rice cakes and a litter of water to a movie theater (fvckin gay LOL!!)
8.  Tri-shooting in every reflective surface on planet Earth.
9.  Skipping outings with friends cause I didn't wanna miss a meal.
10.  Practically having a panic attack cause I couldn't get to the gym for a workout cause of a huge hail storm.
11.  Thinking bb was end all, be all of human existence and criticizing anyone harshly for not "getting it".
12.  Bringing my own food to Thanksgiving with family cause I didn't wanna "wreck my diet".


I was 21-23.....what can I say?

Great list! I can so relate to just about all of this. Especially #11.

I think the majority of Getbiggers can relate to a big portion of this list; most just don't have enough humility to admit it cause they'll appear "weak" LOL!!!


C'mon, it's funny.....bb has turned most of us (at least during our early years) into self-absorbed assholes that lose sight of the world around us.    Basically we have "us" (the bb cult) and "the world"/"the norms"/"the fats"/"the losers"/"the undisciplined"/"the normees"/"those that don't get it"/"the unwilling and unable"/"the weak".......yeah, there's some truth in what we all preach, but there's a shitload of crap too.

I used to quote to everyone "while everyone isn't in the gym, I am.....the rest of the world destroys themselves while I make myself stronger and better."   AHAHAHAHAH!!!  Makes me laugh now how naive I was (we're only talking about 10 years ago), but there is still truth in it.   I've never stepped foot onstage, attended a bb show, or plan to get into ultra shredded condition worthy of competition; therefore, why live the absolute diehard bb lifestyle?


I'm not Dave Palumbo who vomits up the boiled chicken breasts he just choked down and then scoops it up and re-eats while trying not to gag......I say fvck that chicken and get something else even if it's at McDonalds....the world, my physique and my life ain't gonna end because of it.

  I feel ya, MOS!

 It took me YEARS to put the issue of 'I am so much better than everyone...everyone els is ORDINARY...I'm different/unique, I eat right and train...I would be an awesome catch for any chick...look at my chest...only people who hate themselves would ever drink a can of Pepsi and drink beer and eat McDonalds...hahahahaha.. .I'm superior...I eat tuna and grilled chicken breast'  away about...2 years ago.

 I literally convinced myself that EVERYONE who wasnt a hardcore BB were just wastes of oxygen and a waste of time. Their life meant nothing. The guy in the lab trying to find a cure for cancer? hahaha...wahtever...p-ssy probably couldnt squat 135! The single mom working 2 jobs and putting herslef through school eating macaroni for breakfast/lunch and dinner? hahahaha...fat bitch will never know the secrets of weight loss and carbohydrates and its role in     the human body. The fireman shown on the cover of the news-paper carrying down a child from a ladder out of a burning bulding? Hahahaha...whatever! If he trained hard he could have carried out two children.

 I finally let that go. A small part of me still fears...still dreads the day when I walk away from this completely and 'shrink' and blend in the crowd. The day people STOP asking me questions and STOP noticing I 'wok out' is a day i so fear. I'd be 'ordinary' then right?

  It's a little different cuz I do compete, MOS but I still understand what you mean. My gym. Across the street there is a liquor store. I used to hope and wait/look forward seeing my peers, people I grew up with, people I know/recognize from the neighborhood on a Friday night go in and walk out w/ cases of BudLite to their cars while I was in the gym. I'd say to myself..."Hahahaha...YES! Good! Drink up! Then after beer drinking go to White Castles and eat until you explode then go to sleep...I'll be in here squatting and leg pressing until 10pm"

 I used to see a McDonalds commercial for the new 'sandwich' and think..."YES! Thats right people...run out and buy that and get a McFlury to wash it down...good, I'll be eating this tuna/brown rice! I'm too good for that! I'll look better then they will look at me and think I'm GREAT!"

 Crazy, right? Damn...a McFlury! Mmmm...

AHAHAH!!  You and I are pretty similar in how we used to think....with bb you can literally become lost in your own head if you're not careful and casually dismiss the world around you.   Sure there's many, many facets of the "regular world" that are total crap and not worthy of any of my attention, but plenty of things are far more important than the "bb lifestyle" and I see many diehards missing some of those things....relationships, education, family, etc....


While in college I would think, "what's so hard about working a professional job, being married (some with children) and still hittin the gym everyday?   Piece of cake!!"   As I slowly advanced in my career and hit my 1st job in which I was assigned projects that kept me busy 80 hours/week for 6 months I quickly learned how hard some non-bb folk actually do work and that balancing a career, family and healthy lifestyle can be very, very challenging....not impossible, but challenging.

Good post, I was guilty of some of those things as well.

A few of my own to add - Link Man of Steel, these are all the stupid/gay things I've done in the past
13. Living off of protein bars and shakes, mistakenly thinking I would get huge as opposed to eating real food.
14. Buying countless supplements that did nothing but put my wallet on a diet. Weiders weight gainer and andro are good examples of this.
15. Using those black fingerless gloves
16. Using wrist straps on damn near all back movements.
17. Shaving my arms and legs to see the cuts - how fvcking gay was that?!! (unless you compete, put the razor down)
18. Training every day hard as hell, never healing, and therefore growing slow as hell.



AHAHAHAAHAH!!!   Yes Dingleberry, I'm also guilty of the black gloves and severe overtraining....it was only after I backed off my training a bit that I suddenly put on a buncha size....who'da thunk? 





FYI ~ I retired the black gloves after 1 month of use after I realized no one but me was wearing them.....well, me and the tiny tits LOL!!!

I can say from personal experience that if you're some young 20-something guy that says, "I'll never stop bb like this,"  you'll be wrong, unless you have no other goals and life and do nothing but train and "bodybuild".


Hindsight is 20/20 and I'm sure as hell not saying to stop training and "livin the lifestyle", but don't think that you'll be able to maintain it forever without some form of consequence or regret.   I absolutely love to train and have trained "hardcore" for years LOL!!   Still, life will catch up so don't get so engrossed in the bb lifestyle that you're hit with a very difficult "rude awakening".

but why you got into this to begin with? the reason is chicks and the need for them to "want" you and in your head chicks dig muscle which is true to maybe 1% of the female population,,,

the main reason guys work out is chics,,,it always was like that and always will be like that,,

i cant remember one day in my life that i cared what women thought about me or anyone else to that matter,,maybe when i was 17-18,,,after that age bodybuilding became life,,,i didnt care about what people say i only cared about bulking and cutting,,,bulking to 220 then cutting and see the muscle at 180,,,next year bulking to 240 then cutting and seeing bigger muscle at 200lb with same low bf i had when i was 180lb,,,that was the name of the game,,, i enjoyed seeing the new 10lb of lean muscle added every cycle,,,this is the only thing that carried me on in this sport.

i dont have time to look at what guys wear,,,i do look at the local whores but i got a woman so no need for that,, and in general i transmit a concieted asshole look even when im not trying,, so people know to stay away most of the time,,

many times i had 150lb guys spotting me or give me the weights,,so what?? they come to the gym to grow and a humanbeing is a humanbeing,,you good at one thing they good at other thing,,you got bigger chest they got bigger brain,,,

this sport should be done because you like lifting and not for anyother reason,,the moment you do it for anyother reason you are done

Taking from here and giving props to Dennis James GH15 for stating the reason why you guys should stop conjecturing how miserable one's life can be if he chooses to take his bb seriously while keeping his other normal activities...

People, come onnnnnn......I can't see the reason why not a man can't work a full time job, have his wife entertained and taken care of, have his children raised in a good home with a sound education , all the while keeping his training and eating properly.

Note that not for a moment I said it should be easy......au contraire, like someone have already pointed, it will be extremely difficult, but no one said it can't be done.....

Now I don't know about being a pro bb , working a full time job and having a wife and kids. This is only for  very few gifted and illuminated people, Mark Dugdale comes to mind, as it takes a different kinda animal to balance all those things, but looking at Mark as a role model for those of us is a proof that even a pro bb can jugle all these things at once.....and doing it GOOD.

For the vast majority of us, non pro bbders, I think it's highly possible work, wife, children AND KEEPING ALMOST THE SAME your training and eating patterns, unless some minor adjustments and stuff when needed.

If you have a flexible mind , the universe is yours. The moment you set yourself within boundaries, then it becomes extremely difficult, and it won't be nice to whatch: you'll look in anger to the very reasons that keep you from your training (in your mind) , like the job, wife and kids, and you'll actually start to hate'em. That can be desastruous.

I want to point some very good examples: Ron Harris. A guy that a lot of assholes in here like to talk shit about, but I bet they envy him with a passion, let's see - the guy has a gorgeous wife, 2 beautiful children, he owns a nice house, nice car, has the luxury of working at his own home writing as a free lancer for muscle magazines AND trains his ass off like any other pro, as well as the diet aspect.

Mark Dugdale turned pro while having a wife and 3 kids - one of them a new born one at the time - and owning his grocery business whose employees depended on him to eat (their salary depends on the success of the business). He's doing fine 'till now, seems to me, never mind he's not very good at the ranks as of now, what is important is that he turned pro bodybuilder, a feat that 0,0002% of the world population can manage - all the while with his other responsabilities.

Look at Ronnie Coleman, what can be said about him? Simply, the guy became a f u cking Mr. O while keeping his job as a police officer. Can it be tougher than that???? The guy ate in his patrol car, and like he said in Unbelievable, he MADE the time for his bb responsabilities (eating, training, etc).


All this really means that you CAN achieve a good balance if you really love your training schedule and bb lifestyle. All the stories and practices pointed in this thread translates int a good laugh and entertains the hell of, as it's funny shit some posts about that. To actually think there are guys that skip relationship appointments like a dinner in family, or a night out cause they can't drink and stuff is ludicruous. I want know WHERE IS ALL THAT SHIT WRITTEN about these things you 'can't do' cause it's bad for your bb??????

This type of behaviour some really redneck guys use to have is the sole reason why the sport of bodybuilding has a terrible reputation. Who is his right mind would skip a nice banging with some hot chick who wants her ass violated by a big guy because that would throw off his eating or resting schedule, or even who the f u c k would carry over a jug of water to the movies?????????
