I've thought about starting this thread...not to morn the loss of our closest friends...but to remember them forever.
I need to scan some pictures of my closest friends that were with me everyday growing up & never left my side.
I'll start out with a few that were recently posted. If you would like them removed...pm me.
-
Deke's - "Pumpkin"
-
Flower's "Simon"

I think this thread is worthy of a sticky knny!
It is a great idea to make a thread about are beloved pets, who crossed over to the other side ,so we can post pictures and tell some nice and funny anecdotes!
I would hate to see the thread go down the board ...it would be to me like we are forgetting about our beloved animals from the past.
So if all the mods are in favor i say Sticky it!
-
I will try in the next week to get some scanned. Alot of the photo's I have left are not in the greatest condition

Rest in Piece: Dragan.. He died tragically a week before his 7th birthday!.. :'(
He forever will be missed and is the main reason i will never ever will be having a black Mastino Napoletano male again..solely because it will for ever be compared to Dragan and that wouldn't be fare...

The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes from the group are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen, and when you and your friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never to be separated again.

This was my first American Bulldog......Doc Holliday. I really loved that guy.
I had just finished my cardio, put his collar on to take him outside & he didn't move. He died at 9 years old. I was heartbroken big time.

My beloved Kudi - died in my arms on October 23, 2003. He was 15 years old and was with me every single day of his life.
Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. I miss him terribly.

Sucks when a pet dies in your arms....but....I would rather have that.....then having them die alone.

I totally agree. He actually rubbed his face on mine one last time right before he passed away. He knew it was time and it broke my heart. That kind of stuff is really tough. He was the most affectionate animal I've ever been lucky enough to have in my life.

Heaven's Doggy-Door
My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
God also loves our canine friends,
He's installed a "doggy-door"!
-

Thanks. He was such a good dog but he did have a lil' attitude issue. For example, if you happen to drop some food on the ground/floor.....plz just keep walking, k? I miss him so much. :)

Elvys April 16, 1990 –– July 12, 2006
We love you Elvys – Forever in our hearts you will stay. Your happy meow let us know you wanted our attention. When I walked you in the courtyard on a harness, people laughed at the big buy walking the cat like a dog. I didn’t care. That was our special time together every day. You captured everyone’s heart with your animated personality… especially mine. You were the first cat I ever knew and it changed me forever. You were always excited to greet us and ask about our day. You short cropped tail turned like a propeller, first one way, then the other. We love you and we miss you very, very, very much
-
He (?) was very handsome Dave. I love cats that have little mittens or socks on their feet! Sorry for your loss. A year lessons the hurt, but it never goes completely away. :(
-
I had a cat like that growing up (minus the cropped tail) & yes....it's name was "Mittens"
Elyvs looked very loved & happy in that picture.

Thanks Amy and knny… Growing up, I always had dogs. I never knew much about cats. Technically Elvys belonged to an ex-gf but we lived together for 5 years. After we split, we remained friends and I had “visitation rights” which I took full advantage of. Yes he was a real, ladies man. When I walked him he would really turn on he charm when a woman came over to say hello. My ex said that I was the first male besides her dad that Elvys took to.
Yes a year lessens the hurt. I really miss him sometimes though. He was so animated and very smart. I hadn’t had a pet for years and he really taught me how much I had been missing out on.
The thing that always amazes me about pets. Their personalities and unique little behaviors. It’s so interesting to me.
-
My condolences Max. You said everything perfectly.

Me and STella were just talking about this, how they each have their own personalities. Some people say not to give them "human emotions" which may be true to a degree, but anyone who has had and loved a pet knows that they do feel/express emotions, even if they aren't to the same degree as a person can express or feel them.

Well, I'm very sad to report that my 21 year old cat that I told everyone about last week passed away peacefully at home this morning. She was truly loved by everyone and she will be sorely missed every day for the rest of our lives. We were only so lucky to have this special girl in our lives and we are truly grateful for that. We know she is now in a very special place.
We love you little girl.

You will be missed.
My deepest condolences Phoenix.

Very sorry PhoenixBuff. :'(

sorry dude...that really sucks
-
Thanks everyone - it's extremely tough to deal with this, especially having her for her entire life - it's been a very long time. But I take comfort that she had the best of everything and died very peacefully. I took her to the vet this morning one final time (after she had passed) and the nurses, even the doctor (who has been doing this for 40 years) was balling their eyes out - it was a great tribute to such a wonderful animal.
Thanks again.

I can imagine. I remember when my dog passed,,,,it was emotional for everyone. She was just part of the family & the Vet over the course of years learned her 'quirky' personality.

sorry to hear about your cat Phoenix, RIP.

Thanks everyone. Laura, the other cats seem to be doing pretty well. I took half the day off from work to check on them. I hope this trend continues.

Don't be surprised if they cry now and again, looking for Moguwai. You had mentioned that they all played together. They will at some point be very curious as to why they can't find her. :(

Sorry for your loss PhoenixBuff. 21 years is a great life for a cat.

I think this is fitting for this thread:
THE PURPOSE OF A DOG - FROM A 4 YEAR OLD
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year old
Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife,
Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker
and hey were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the
family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform
the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would
be good for the four-year old Shane to observe the procedure. They
felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's
family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog
for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going
on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The
little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any
difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's
death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are
shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next
stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good
life --- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?"
The four- year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do
that, so they don't have to stay as long."
-
sorry for your loss PhoenixBuff ...and everyone else in this thread.
This thread makes me sad. :'( My kitty is just now 1 year old and I already love her to death.(I used to hate cats before I found her in the rain) I look fwd to coming home and playing with her every night...never a dull moment with her because she is VERY mischievous. I dread the day when I will have to say goodbye. :(

gtbro1...They get their little paws into our hearts. Enjoy the time and don't think about the day far in the future.
That was an awesome story Amy.

So sorry for your loss. I have been there a few times myself.....it hurts big time.
My advice is simply to appreciate what you have now & then hey, the pets that you will have in future. :) Hang in there, k?

my parents had their dog put down last November. He was old and had severe arthritis and he couldn't even hold himself up to do his business.I loved that old dog. I was sorta upset with my dad because he just did it...I mean,we all knew it was coming, but that dog was part of our family for over 14 years,it would have been nice to say goodbye...I called my dad one night on my lunch break..I asked "How is Stormy doing today?" (like I said I knew the end was near) Then dad just said "well...I took him down today and had him put down...he's gone." He was about to cry telling me...and I have never ever seen my father cry. He buried him in the back ...still had his collar and leash on...said he didn't want to have to look at it.

Well, although I understand you wanting to say goodbye....it sounds as if your old man just had to do this difficult task in his own way. I'm not saying that in a negative way....but maybe he just wanted to do this by himself.
I know how it feels when you have to put your best pal down. Some people handle it different on so many different levels. My father did the same & put down the animals in our house by himself.
Don't look at it negative.
-

Oh I didn't mean to sound negative...I wasn't really mad at him...just upsetthat I never said bye to the dog.....my dad and mom did it together..they took him to the vet and when they brought him home dad buried him without removing his leash or collar that he had used to lead him down there...I miss the dog but feel worse for my father because I know that was hard for him to do.

When I was growing up...our Vet would come to the house.
Funny.....Vet would come out all the time for this or that & the dogs were always happy to see him. When ever he came out to do that deed....the rest of the dogs (seriously) would huddle together, lay down under the table. All the years the dogs would lay together...they would never get that close to one another & practically lay on top of one another unless he was coming out to do that. Then for the rest of the day...they would seriously just mope around. Lay very quiet...wouldn't play & barely would eat anything. By the 2nd or 3rd day they would start getting back in their normal routine. For the next couple of weeks though, if I watched them...they would snoop around the yard "looking" for maybe a lost friend.
True..dogs don't have the memory compared to a human...but I believe they know there's something "missing" or out of order.
When I left for the Marines...my dog just wasn't herself. My parents tried doing a lot of stuff with her just to keep her busy. 6 months or 8 months later when I would come home....she would go berserk.

This picture was taken on Christmas day, 2004.
The boxer was dying at the time of the photo from a tumor on his heart. He was the rescue I've posted about who was burned and stabbed repeatedly. My wife and I had him for almost 10 years--we figured he was about 13 at the time of this picture. Unfortunately as a boxer, the only tumor he got (boxers are prone to cancer) was the one on his heart. we contemplated going in and trying to remove the tumor, but in a 13 year old dog, that was a major, major surgery with little chance for success. You can see how full his belly looks in that picture. Its because of the fluid he was retaining due to the heart tumor. Even then he lived a happy life for months. We euthanized him on Easter Sunday 2005.
The border collie is a mix we've had for years. He's still going strong.
The brindle staffie was the male I've posted about--he was also 13 or 14 in this picture (I can't remember). He died in my arms on Easter Sunday 2005 from a ruptured tumor in his spleen. I let the dogs out in the back yard to play and ran upstairs to get something. When I came back, he was collapsed in the back yard. I was at home alone and at the time didn't have a working car--my wife had taken the car into work and the truck had a dead battery. I placed two IV catheters and ran all of the fluids I had in the house into him, but it was too little too late. We'd known he had the tumor on his spleen for almost 2 years---he was a complete asshole surgical candidate--not a good one at all, so we decided to monitor the tumor closely. He seemed to be doing great up until the day he died. Needless to say Easter Sunday 2005 sucked monkey ass.
The chocolate APBT is the one I post about on the forum. She was in "psycho bitch mode" and really wanted to get off the couch to go chew on a box of tennis balls I'd given the dogs. She's one of the best dogs I've ever owned.
The black lab was my buddy. I removed a malignant melanoma tumor the size of a bb from his front foot about 16 months before this picture was taken. The tumor was extremely malignant. We discovered the bone mets Thanksgiving of the next year when he broke his leg. I am still kicking myself over this dog. I had an opportunity to enroll him in the experimental Melanoma Vaccine study but I didn't because I was unsure of the potential negative outcomes to that vaccine. In retrospect, if I'd put him in the study, he may have lived longer.....
Now the lab, the boxer, and the staffies urns are in my living room. When I die, they will be buried with me.
The bird cage behind the dogs has my African Grey in it. "Bird" is a first class hoodlum who's favorite word is the "f" word. The bird has an opinion about just about everything and will tell you about it, in English, in Dog, or in Bird noises. She's funny as hell.

I got a text message the other day from an ex girlfriend that I haven't seen in over a year. It said "Patches was found dead :( " Patches was her cat. I never liked cats at all until I started dating her and met Patches. He was a big ol fat cat. :) She is 29 and had him since age 16. I am not sure why she decided to tell me about it since I have not even seen her in well over a year....but I really feel bad about that happening to her cat...I can imagine she is pretty upset right now. It's funny because for the past couple days I can't get Patches off my mind...and he wasn't even mine. It's amazing what an impact a pet can have on your life.I have pics of him somewhere if I can find em I will post em.

Thank you all for the kind words!
Chaos, thanks for the kind words and just so you know I took our conversations as harmless banter nothing more but with that said I am also sorry to here about your loss as well I never knew! My deepest sympathies to you and yours as well!
Sugar was accidentally killed Thursday night, I backed over her while I was turning my van around in the driveway to load up for our Labor day camping trip. I was negligent in that I left the back door to the garage from the house open; the garage doors were also open. Sugar was in the house sleeping in her crate which was open as well (I usually don't close her crate until we all turn in for the night). Normally when its that late in the evening she would retire to her crate and stay there, falling asleep shortly there after but I guess with all the ruckus going on she decided to investigate. She ended up wandering out into the driveway through the wooded area in front of the house and neither my son or I knew she was out and about. Sugar walked underneath the Van as I was backing up.
Very difficult weekend for all of us without her. I buried her in her favorite spot in the backyard.

It will probably be difficult not to beat yourself up for a long time.
I'm sure she's having a blissful time in doggie heaven.

Damn I am sorry to hear about that.. I hope everything gets better. Time will heal all things. My prayers are with you and your family in such a difficult time.

:'( So sorry Hustle Man :'(

No they were in the house except for my oldest son, he was helping me pack up, mini me (the one I posted pics of on here) and my daughters were inside.
It was very dark outside especially at the tip of the driveway (the garage floodlights don't provide enough light down there) and I think if her hearing and eyesight were not failing she probably would have been able to advoid the vehicle.
She lived a long good life approx 13 years, we rescued here from shelter! They found her in a dumpster; her nails had not been cut and were curled around up into her paws, severely matted and mal nurished. One week after they brought her in to the shelter we saw her (7 years ago) and fell in love with that cute face and scuffed up nose, she was such a joy! I am still amazed that someone would just throw her or any other pet in a dumpster alive! It's amazing after possibly being in an abusive home prior to our adopting her, she was still very loving and trusting.
Never knew I would be affected this way but she was more than just a dog to us. She, like many pets, gave us years of laughter and happiness! I will miss that "welcome home" bark and wagging tail and the "it's time to walk me" yelp in the morning!

Damn HM, again I'm so sorry. She's having herself a good time wherever is after this world, and I'm sure she is thankful for the time she had with you and your family and the love you showed her.
Try to focus on the good memories and go easy on yourself.

so sorry for all the losses. You all are very sweet people, and I am sure the dogs and cats all had incredible lives thanks to all of you. Can you imagine, without your help those pets would of never had ther special life they did while with you. Group Hug! :)

HM,
I'm not a parent, so I may not know what the hell I'm talking about, but...
depending on their ages, you may not want to hide your feelings from your kids. Let them know how sad this makes you and let them know you feel guilty and responsible, because as a daddy, you're supposed to take care of everything and then something bad happened. You might be surprised. They may turn out to be the best support through this difficult time. This is no doubt going to be one of those pivotal defining moments in their lives and they learn what it means to be a good human being and a good man, who is strong and sensitive, who isn't perfect..... blah blah blah
sorry :-\ I'm babbling

Thanks and you were correct they were very supportive! They understood that it was an accident. We are looking for another dog this weekend not sure what breed though. Any suggestions? Sugar was a lap dog (she was older though) but I think they need one that is a little more active and robust.

Honest to god, look at getting a pit or staffy.. Very loyal dogs and great "Whole" family dog.. Don't read into all the hype. If you raise them right your kids will have a great dog for the rest of their lives...

Every has their own opinion.
Personally....the dog we have is a Rottweiler & is probably one of the best dogs I've had. He's very loving, devoted, loves to pay, & a really great pal.
With that being said....the dog that was probably the best I've ever had was rescued from my neighbor. The damn dog just wouldn't leave my side.
It tears me up seeing dogs at a shelter. I would not hesitate getting one there or rescuing one from somewhere else.

Yeah I don't buy into the neg hype, my neighbor has a pit and a rott and my kids and sugar played with them all the time I even sat for them a few weekends while they were on vacation. We had a blast with them and my little guy wrestled with them like he does with his friends lol hence the reason why I said I think we need a more robust dog this time. I will check the shelters this weekend! Thanks!

that's a horrible story Hustle, I'm sorry to hear it happened like that. Take care of the family and don't rush too quickly for a new dog. Let the kids get used to the idea of Sugar not being there.

The Meerkats are mourning the lady of the Manor, FLOWER!
The Whiskers clan is without a matriarch. Flower, the leader of the central gang of meerkats and the focus of Animal Planet's documentary animal soap opera "Meerkat Manor", died during filming of the show's third season after being bitten by a cobra. She was six!
Condolences welcomed!

I got an email from my father over the weekend....He backed the car up and accidentally ran over one of his two mini-dashunds, Tasha. It's so awful when these accidents happen. :'(
He has had two litter mates, Chelsea and Tasha, since they were 4 weeks old, and they are/were about 13 now. Tasha died instantly, and now he is completely devastated, and I am just torn up about the whole thing.
Not sure how Chelsea is going to respond, but I can imagine that she'll be lost and lonely for quite some time. And my father is going to have a hard time dealing with the guilt, even though it certainly was an accident that could happen to anyone.
RIP Tasha. :'(
-
OMG Rip, that is so sad. I get so nervous when I come home from work and Mike has let Rocky out. He can reach the garage with his line (I don't wanna make it shorter because he would have no running room). I usually pull 1/2 into the driveway, get out and make sure he is in the house before proceeding into the garage. I know I would be devastated if I hit him.
RIP Tasha. :'(

The guilt must be unbearable. I'm not sure you ever really get over something like that :-\

Thanks guys...yeah it's AWFUL, I can see how it could happen to anyone though, esp with smaller dogs. It's just tragic. :'(
My dad said Tasha liked to sleep under the car in the shade, and that he called them both out from under the car before he left. Same thing every day....
As he was backing up, he said they were next to the car like they usually are, and then she just went under the wheel for whatever reason.
He's devastated, of course, and I am sad for him and Chelsea. Those two dogs have been with each other since birth, and I hope that she doesn't get really depressed or something. :-[

"Murphy" 11/26/07
Murphy had an interesting life...but I feel it was a good as it gets for a cat. He was my g/f's cat & we decided last night it was time. He was around 14 years old & for the most part, was in excellent shape. He was recused from a shelter when he was about 6 months old by my g/f's brother. They had him for about 12 years until one day he started messing in the house. Nobody was exactly sure why, but it may had to do that they recently had a couple of kids & he was acting out. So, my g/f adopted him & within the first couple of months.....went blind. His one eye had a detached lens & the other completely hazed over...but after $700+ of running tests...they couldn't really determined what happened. The Vets & specialists recommended surgery or he needed to be put down. Surgery was going to cost $2500-$3000. My girlfriend only had him a few months & although she was very torn, couldn't afford to spend anymore money on him. She figured that as long as he was comfortable & happy (pain free)...that she was going to hold off.
He adjusted very well being blind believe it or not. He didn't really seem to be in alot of pain, but it's so hard to really know. He would sit there sometimes with one eye closed or he would bury his head somewhere. Other days....he was very loving & loved attention (even from the dog). I guess his blindness made him more humble & friendly as everyone says he used to bite a lot when he was younger.
I didn't know him very long...but makes no difference. I miss him alot & am very sad to see him gone. We feel the right choice was made...but it still sucks. Here's a picture of him before he went blind:
-
I'm sorry to hear that kenny. :'(
I'm sure you guys did the right thing.
Murphy was very cute. Sounds like he had a good life for the most part. :)

Yes, but I've heard that cats don't exhibit their pain much more so than other domestic animals (don't know how true that is but from personal experience it seems spot on) .
And of course you question yourself. But you did the right thing and after several months you will start to realize it. I'm so sorry knny. Please give your gf our condolences as well. :(

the sucky part....is he kept purring.
Everyone kept saying "wow he's motoring"
the only thing that was reassuring is he kept burring his head against my girlfriend to relieve the pressure in his eyes when people would leave the room.
My girlfriends normal vet is now over 80 miles away. We didn't want to stress the cat with that far of a drive cuz he really hates car rides. On a scale of 1-10....he's a 9.8
So this Vet (of course) wanted to run more tests even though her other Vet faxed her all of his documentation.
Needless to say....it wasn't a fun experience.

Here are some comments I just found on purring on yahoo.com re: purring:
--------------------------
Purring isn't always a sign of happiness.
It can also be a sign of unrest, pain, being upset or being angry. Are their ears pinned back when they do this?
----------------------------
Purring is an indication that the cat is not a threat, rather than a sign of happiness. The swishing tail is a sign of being peeved about something.
So the two can go together.....not happy, but not going to attack you because of it
-----------------------
fried_tc is quite correct, the fact that a cat is purring does not necessarily mean it is happy or content.
If a cat is purring and clawing the ground it could be a way for them to relieve stress, discomfort or simply a way for them to comfort themselves.
I have had cats as pets and I always used to think that when they purred and lightly stroked the ground with their paws it meant they were happy and content, This is quite often not the case.
For more information on the reason cats purr please visit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purr
or;
http://cats.about.com/cs/catmanagement10...
------------------------------------
Cats will sometimes purr to comfort themselves. So it is not uncommon for cats that have been run over to purr, it helps to calm them down.
If your cat is not in pain then it could just be that they are upset about something and they are trying to make themselves feel better.

It's very weird when they "pass"....
everything is still warm & soft....but there's no tightness in the muscles

Sorry to hear this knny, my condolences to you and your girl. :(
Murphy had similar markings to a cat I had growing up, Clifford (Cliffy cat), like butterscotch colored.

Sucky part....is one of the Vet Tech's was saying how cute he was when she walked in.
Talk about making you feel like crap.

When I started reading this thread I thought about my yellow lab named Max. Max was 13 when he passed, and I had him half of my life. I still have a pic of him on my fridge.
Damnit, I always get chocked up when I think about him.....

I feel for you guys, cant imagine how (L)-broken you are for your loss
-
Hi guys,
I don't post often, but in the past have read the R.I.P. board and knew that all of you who have gone through the lost of a beloved pet would understand how I'm feeling, losing a pet is just as bad as losing a person. I'm a WRECK....
I had to put my 13year old Weimaraner to sleep on New Year's Eve, it was a shock because for thirteen she was in good shape or so I thought. Turns out she had some sort of blood cancer, she was doing great on Christmas Eve and one week later she was gone.
Thanks for listening, I'll miss my Grey Girl horribly!!!!!

Soflagirl, so sorry to hear about your girl passing :'( If you feel like it, please post up some of her pics but if not, no worries.
All I can say is I'm so sorry and that time makes things less painful. Sorry for your loss :(
-
Beautiful pictures and lovely thoughts, everyone.
My condolences to all of you. :'(
-
Stella, thank you for your kind words. Yes, I'm sure I'll be crying off and on for a very long time. It was not an easy decision to put her to sleep, but I told my self that when the time came that I wouldn't be selfish and make my girls suffer. I still have a 15yr old German Shepard who is my faithful companion and wise old soul with me, she has been looking for her sister, which is really tough to watch, they were together for 13 yrs. Thanks again for you thoughts, they are much appreciated.

My little bald old man Tino was put to rest today. He put up a good fight against the lymphoma and adrenal disease he was diagnosed with last April, but the cancer recently spread to his bones. I had over 9-1/2 years of joy with Tino. I hope he is healthy and happy playing with his buds now and is reunited with Simon who passed last April.
I'm going to miss you my lil Tino-Beano. :'(
Tino in his younger days, he was such a handsome boy:

Awwwwww so sorry flower.
RIP Tino. :'(

Thanks guys. I think it will take some time to not automatically be thinking that it is time to feed Tino, it's been a schedule for almost a year with Tino and previously over a year with Simon, so a 2 year habit to get out of. Ferret Hospice is closed. :( I will be cleaning out the ferret room this weekend. Right now his blanket piles are still out like he may be snuggled in one.
RIP to all our companions who have passed. :-[
-
:( that sucks. Sorry for your loss, Flower.
-
Thanks gtbro1. It sucks that I miss the spunky old guy, but considering the average life span for ferrets is around 5-7 years, and usually a disease sets in before that, Simon made it over 8 years of age before he started to show his age (he passed last April at 9 years of age) and Tino not til he was 9 and he was about 9 1/2 when I gave him peace (I swear I think he was trying to get to 10!) I feel lucky to have had those "extra" years with them and that they were healthy for all but the last year of their lives. So I can :'( cause I miss them, but :) for all the years I had with them. I think that is true for any pet lover.

I was watching my friends cat and he died today. He was only 4 years old. IN the past few weeks he has been pissing everywhere but his box and even shitting in places and I knew he was sick. My friend went out of town and said he would take the cat to the doctor when he comes back this Saturday. Well since yesterday the cat really has been moving really slow and just laying there. I told my friend I am taking him to the doctor today but it was too late. He was a really cool cat too. Had a personality unlike most cats. I feel kind of bad.

Call me, I may have a similar looking cat we could replace him with. Your "friend" doesn't need to know.

That's terrible Keith. I'm sorry that happened. Poor kitty :(
-
Thanks. He was a really cool cat as is the other one. The play fetch and run around and come to you when you call them. When I think about it I feel really bad cause the cat was telling me he was sick. He would lay on the floor and not move and come into my room and just lay there. This is one reason why I don't have a dog. I get to attached to them and when they go I hate it. This cat wasn't even mine and I feel bad. And I feel worse cause I know it could have been prevented and that the cat was telling me he was sick. I remember when I was a kid and the first dog I remembered we had. His name was Bundy. It was a Hungarian Puli. He was really old and my dad was going to take him to the vet the next day to put him to sleep. I had Bundy sleep in my bed and made him as comfortable as I could cause I knew he was not going to be around the next day. Man I cried my ass off all night. I remember that next afternoon after my dad came back how much he was crying and my mom. You get so attached to the animals it's unreal. I would love to have a dog but can't for that reason.

Feel the same way...but...the dog we have now is so extraordinary. I have to remind myself I'd rather have him in my life than not to at all.
The sucky part is....any dog I've ever had has never let me down except when they pass away.
-
I was watching my friends cat and he died today.
Sorry to hear that onlyme. :(
I hate it when I see this thread bumped. :-[

God...I still remember when I had to take my first dog...Tiger..a toy poodle..( don't dis the poodles! He was FEARLESS!) to the vet to be "put to sleep". I held him in my arms as the injection was given. He had a bad heart and all the medicines just wouldn't work anymore. I cried like a baby as he left this world. I still have dreams with him. Thank god the vet let me bring him home so I could bury him in my backyard in a a bed of roses. I think of him everyday.... :'(

I went to my vet on Tuesday night to have my dog looked at. He wasn't himself as of late and he seemed to be panting a lot. Today I had to put my best friend to rest. Taiko, which means "The Boss" in Japanese was a ten year old male boxer who had a heart of gold. Sadly, it was his heart that would prove to be his biggest weakness. He developed a heart condition that was untreatable. The pain of watching him gasp for each breath he took was too much for both him and I during these last four days. I was happy to say my peace and stay with him during this ordeal; but, it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. He left behind a brother named Brodie who misses him dearly as well. To all the pet lovers out there, please take a moment and check the link out below for his picture.

Kingsford :'(
He was one of the welfare kitties born last August ~ solid black. He was the most elusive of them all and never let me get near him. A couple of days before I left for vacation he seemed to be very lethargic and looked like he might have been beat up. The day before I left he let me pick him up and put him on a blanket. The next morning when (3am) when I was leaving I put him in a cage so my husband could take him to the vet when they opened. By the time I boarded the plane, he had died. I hope he didn't get into some kind of poison :-\ while out roaming. My husband buried him somewhere on our property.

So, each day they run and play doing zoomies like a silly boy until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!

Thanks everyone, I still can't believe he is gone. My heart knew the night before that he wasn't going to be with me the next morning. I don't know how, but I looked at him and saw I was losing him. I didn't think it was true and thought it was me just being dramatic, but I guess not. Maybe he knew and was letting me know, or I was picking up on it somehow. I think he went peacefully in his sleep or quickly, so I am thankful for that. 6 1/2 years was not long enough to be blessed by my silly boy Emmett, the sensitive big guy who would hide his head in my lap like he was trying to be a little dog. The silly boy who would break into zoomies in the backyard, and try and catch the water spraying from the hose. I could go on, but it breaks my heart.
Here is how I will remember him, be at peace my silly boy Emmett, I love you.

OMG ~flower~ :o
I am so so sorry :'( What happened? Did I miss something regarding his recent health? :-\
I know hearing "you gave him a great life, etc." doesn't make it any easier, but you did! How are the others taking his absence?
RIP big fella :-*
I don't mean to be morbid or anything, but... :-\
given his size... What did you do with him?
-
Thanks Princess, I think his heart gave out. I did not have a necropsy done so I don't know the exact cause. I don't think he suffered. I looked in his eyes the night before and had the feeling in my heart that I was watching him leave me, but my head said I was being melodramatic. Maybe that is how it was supposed to be, he didn't want to linger for months and just wanted to be at home? I am trying to think that way, that that is how it was supposed to be. With the help of some good friends I am trying to think positive and that he is okay where he is. It will be a long time before I feel like I am not thinking of him 24/7.
He is being cremated and the ashes returned to me, I did the same with the ferrets except it obviously costs more with a dog his size. I had some friends come over to help me move him and get him to the vets. I do have a freind who has some land and she had one of her Danes buried on the property. I do not have that kind of land and hope to one day move from this house and want my furkids with me. (I plan to be buried with them after I am cremated)

Thanks everyone, sorry I haven't thanked you sooner. Still hard to believe my silly boy is gone. I still wait for him to come inside sometimes, or if I look really quick I think I see him.
You are right Dave, losing a family member is hard. People who think pets are no big deal are really missing out.

Flower...how did your other babies handle Emmett absence (I say absence not disrespectfully, but because I don't know if they actually know/understand what happened)?
-
The other 3 didn't seem to really show any signs of being different than normal. The first couple days maybe, but I was not myself so I am not sure it they were reacting to me or to Emmett being gone? I think if I only had two dogs and then their was just one, that dog might be more affected? I think out of all of them Tad is the one who would not like to be an only dog. I think the other 3 (now 2) would be fine as only dogs.

Or maybe because I let them say goodbye before we took him to the vets they knew he was gone? He didn't just disappear, they saw that he was gone. And they each had the other 2 still, so I don't know. :-\

Dogs don't think like human beings.
They don't "miss" other dogs or persons.
If you're gone tomorrow, your dog won't miss you, that's the truth.
If there's a good trainer taking care of your dog when you're gone, you won't be missed.
That's just the way it is.
The dog does recognize you however, but recognizing and missing someone is two different things.

It was a she. :)
We had her when she was already around 9-12 yrs old. She was a stray. We had her for a little over 5 years. She was the sweetest cat. She would actually come to you when you call her and want nothing more than just your affection. She didn't always want treats (like most pets) she just wanted your company. She was content laying on your lap petting her til she fell asleep.
She had multiple health problems (probably from being a stray most her life, although she was spayed when we got her) like heart murmur and overactive thyroid. We knew right away that her time was short, but it is still difficult to cope with her loss. It's sad but I've dealt with the loss of my grandparents and uncle better than this. I know that sounds horrible but that's the truth. I was much closer to this cat than some of my family members.
Yeah, she took naps on the toilet seat (and everywhere else).

But how can you say this with such certainty Hedge? We had a dog pass and the other one definitely seemed to grieve. She was still getting the same (or more) exercise...and lots of love and attention...but when we were relaxing watching TV or something she would make some pretty sad sounds. She was very vocal....She also kind of moped around. After we got a new puppy that all stopped after a while.
I wish they didn't grieve or miss us. But I really think they do.

Joel, thanks for giving Hendrix such good years at the end of her life.
I understand the difficulty of coping w/losing a pet and it seeming more painful than some family members dying. I don't think you should feel guilty or weird about that. You lived w/that cat...probably not w/your Grandparents. She was a part of every one of your days and probably always in a positive way.
Hang in there Joel...each day will become a little less painful. Take care.

Hmmm....disagree with this to some degree.
An animal in some instances (or most) has better senses. I've seen when an animal in a pack of dogs die, the others react aware of the situation. The become more calm, ears down, & heads lowered. As humans we label them as being sad. Now I don't think they're crying over their lost companion, but they do sense "loss". Sure, it's not like humans where is goes for weeks or months....but I have seen on my own accord lasting a couple days. It's more of a 'displaced' sense of behaviour.
Also, I know again from personal experience that when i was a kid growing up, my dog would sit in the window & would not leave until I came home. If I went some where from a couple days to a week, the dog would continue to do that until I came home. My parents would describe the dog as having a loss of appetite & wouldn't move from the window. Now sure, not all animals do this & my current dog does not do this. But how can you be so positive that dogs don't do this unless you've seen it first hand? When I let for the Marines, my dog did this for the first week or so & then 'forgot' as you would say. But when I came home to visit 6 months later or 1 year later, she sure was happy to see me. So much so when I left again, she would sit in that window waiting for another week or so.
How do you explain this? When you do, let me know because I never could. It wasn't something I taught this dog. It's just when you say "dogs" don't do this, I can understand because it's not typical, but also it's not 100% accurate.

RIP little Koolie-Bear :'(
He was a g/f's little 14 year old Pom. Sassy, frisky and adorable. When he was a puppy, her husband accidentally ran over his tail. They had it amputated and he did fine. Over this past year or so his hearing and eyesight were declining, but he still acted like a puppy. She came home last night and didn't see him and accidentally ran over him in her garage :'( :'( :'( His hips were broken and surgery really wasn't a realistic option. Her 12 year old daughter was in the truck with her. Tragic.
I don't have any pictures of him, but he looked like this.

what a horrible story. :-[
sorry for your loss...

Sorry to hear about the accident.
Man, that must be horrific to run over your own dog. I almost reversed over Dakota the other day. Looked in the rear vision mirror as i was slowly going back, and just saw the tip of his black tail behind the car. I yelled at him and he ran inside sulking, so i felt really bad. Freaks the shit out of you though, if i was rushing i would have gone right over him most likely :(

Sorry to hear about Koolie-Bear :'( (great name btw)

Too many stories like that...sorry Princess L :(

Tanktank, I am sad to say has passed on. He was the best friend I ever had. He was 80% blind and fully retarded due to a parasite in his brain at an early age. He never barked, growled or bit anyone, and only brought joy to everyones path he crossed. He was quite a character and will be missed, but had an absolutely fantastic life. He passed away naturally due to age.

I had a rabbit once. The cutest thing but always made me nervous. It was very skittish and didn't like being held. One day I checked on him and thought he was dead, he was just laying there not moving and didn't look like he was breathing. I freaked. I told my then boyfriend about it and he told me he would bury him for me. Months later when we broke up he was pissed at me and told me that my rabbit was not dead when I found him. I said yes he was, you buried him. He then told me that he broke it's neck before he buried it. I was beside myself. :'(

I have to say this is the reason why I won't have a pet, even though I like dogs and cats GREATLY.
The emotional upheaval of their mortality it unbearable to me. It's bad enough dealing with humans. (relatives and friends) The first time was in High School when Larry, (the only person there who treated me as a human) got shit faced and ran his Mustang Mach one head-on into a fully loaded concrete truck.

Rest in Peace, Flower's Addie.
Addie was about 8 years old and had to leave this world on 7/21/11.
We believe it's possible she was in renal failure.
"The vet agreed it was a hard decision but he thought I made the right one, and I think she had told me she was ready. We never are though. The scrawny big goof I rescued from Ohio about 7 years ago, who chewed a seatbelt on the drive home, who ate part of a couch and had to have surgery, then when I got a new leather couch chewed (but didn't eat) the arm off it within 3 hours of it being in the house, who cracked the molding on the back door by throwing her weight against it when she wanted to come in so you always had to use a deadbolt or it would blow open, who couldn't have a treat that she didn't inhale instead of chewing so she always coughed, is gone."
"I think she was telling me she was ready as we sat outside on a blanket this morning and enjoyed the breeze before it became to hot and we sat and I talked and petted her and let her know how much she was loved and would be missed."
Addie was very loved. Thanks, Flower for giving her a good life.
-
Fuck :(
-
Very sorry, flower.
-
sorry flower, may she PIP..Play in Peace :(

This is the hardest part of sharing your life with pets :'(

Very, Very Sorry!

Belated thank you's everyone! She was the first dog I have had to make the decision to "let go". I've done it with my ferrets, but there is something different with a dog, not that it is easy with any pet. Crying just typing this.. :'(
My condolences to everyone who has lost a beloved family member.

It never goes away ~flower~ it just becomes bearable at some point ... it is different for everyone but as much as you are a loving and considerate parent to your family of fur and feathers I'm sure this is still as painful and fresh as it was that day
I'm sorry for your loss .. and I wish you all the best in going forward

Just poppin in looking up a few things, thought I would update while here:
Tad is gone. I won't go into the details but I lost 3 Chihuahuas the week after Christmas. I had gotten (2) 8mo old brothers in November. I lost the smallest one, PJ, on Dec 27, Gus passed sometime during the night New Years eve (past midnight) he had just come home from being at the vets from the 22nd til that NYeve morning, and Tad I had to put to sleep New Years Day. I still cry everyday like it just happened, especially for Tad. It was a week of hell, and it is going to take me a long time to recover if I ever fully do. So it is just me and Briona now, my Dane mix, she'll be 11 in June.
I'd like to thank STella, who was there in so many ways and I will never be able to fully repay her for all she did. Love you girl!! <3
Hoping that everyones furry families are doing fine, and no one ever have to go through what I did. Losing one is hard, 3, well, that is something that is just so hard to comprehend. Losing Addie 6 months earlier I suppose doesn't help, but I at least I was able to grieve and process her loss.
-
Oh no, so sorry to hear that.

Im so sorry flower.
I wanted to thank you personally for offering suggestions for my Johnny's skin and ear problems. It helped for a while but unfortunatly I lost him over the weekend, I feel your pain, (although I couldnt imagine losing that much in such a short time.)
It is hard and I cant wait for the day when I can just look back and smile instead of cry. We will see them all again one day. Take care flower.

I am sad to announce that my beloved cat, Gizmo, suffered kidney failure, and today I had to make the only humane, compassionate decision available to end his incurable suffering. He is gone from this world, but never from my memory.
I especially want to thank STella for her kind words during this tough time.

Its hard to find the words
You may have seen his picture on the board from time to time. He was 8 years old and as energetic and fun loving as ever.
He had absolutely no grace what so ever. He would walk around running into things knocking them over then look at you like "yea, youre gonna clean that up" and walk off. He had a habit of sneezing in your face while you scratched behind his ears and making sure to get a great big nose mark full of snot on your clean khakis...but if you had food he was a regal and dignified proper gentleman.
He was taken to the vets office this morning after being up all night and they found a football sized tumor in his stomach. His owners made the tough decision to take away his pain and he is now in a better place.
He was a great friend...loyal, loving and oh so goofy...I miss the sound of his collar jingling as he walked around.

I've thought about starting this thread...not to morn the loss of our closest friends...but to remember them forever.
I need to scan some pictures of my closest friends that were with me everyday growing up & never left my side.
I'll start out with a few that were recently posted. If you would like them removed...pm me.

Just lost my best friend today. Glad she lived a long life and didnt have to suffer very long.
Seems like no matter how much time you get it's not enough with them.

http://guyism.com/weird-news/dog-owner-returns-kennel-find-pet-inside-python.html
Dog owner returns to kennel to find her pet inside a python
A pet owner in Caniaba, near Lismore, Australia, wanted to take her pet dog for a walk. Unfortunately, he was busy on a lunch date, inside a python.
The dog’s owner approached the kennel to let her Chihuahua-Maltese cross off its chain and found a 50-year-old carpet python in the kennel with a large bulge in its body and the dog’s chain hanging from its mouth.
More from the Sydney Morning Herald:
Volunteers from the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES) were called to the home in Caniaba, near Lismore, on Thursday morning and arrived to find the 2.5-metre snake still lying in the kennel.
WIRES Northern Rivers secretary Sue Ulyatt said the volunteers cut the chain and observed the python, which is about 50 years old, for 24 hours to see if it would regurgitate the chain.
However, when it didn’t, the python was taken to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, where it would be examined by a veterinarian to see if it would require surgery.
Wildlife officials speculate that the python strangled the dog before swallowing it whole and estimated such a meal would sustain a python for about a month. Which has to be great for snakes on a tight budget.

Thank you. I'll keep the name off here, but she was seven. Developed a tumour and went downhill very fast, losing the ability to walk. She weighed 160 lbs, but she enjoyed the last few hours of her life as a lapdog before the vet euthanized her. Seven years. Feels like a whole lifetime.

To many beautiful creatures gone
Very sad.
My 13yr old Dalmatian Suki went 2yrs ago
Broke our hearts - Truley lovely she was - Though completely crackers...
After her going I was a lost sole & We set about finding another loving
Dog in need of a Good home.
We visited many dog rescue centres till eventually we went to see a young
Cross breed Alsatian/ huskey at a dog pound - Beautiful He was just far to
Boisterous & not good with young children - we had our 5yr old grandson
Living with us at the time.
As we walked around the pound there were many lovely dogs,
There was this one raggedy dirty lifeless eyes one just laying there
Waiting his time to the last trip to the vets, they only keep the dogs
About 6wks :'( and he’d been there for 7+wks.
We took him out & he was great / well behaved.
Next day took our sons & grandson to see him & he was fine with all of them,
Next day Thursday we picked him up, they told us then he’d only got till the wknd !!
We know little of his previous background other than he was abandoned in city centre
Of Leicester, don’t know how old he is vets say around 6 - It took him 18 months to accept
any sort of comfortable bed just layed
On the hard floor, we believe he’d been very badly abused likely kicked in the back
& paws trodden on & we think it was a woman !! And kept chained up outside.
- The Bastards.
Now we’ve had him for 2yrs & he’s been everywhere with us
Scotland / Devon / York / Wales / London Mayfair- soho - west end / France / Spain / Gibraltar
Etc etc Where we go he goes.
Our Big White Fluffy Akita all 55kgs of him & he stops people everywhere
We’ve been - in fact we have to factor in the extra time of people stopping
Us & wanting pictures with him.!! I’ve never spoken to so many random people before.
We Call him Olaf
And we’re very luck to have him owning us.
If I knew how to post pics I would, of Olaf & My Suki...
I’ll have to get one of my lads to do it.
Apols for the long post, hopefully some of you will of read it.
;)

Wilson - 2000 - 2018.
A great friend who stayed with me through the good and the bad.
I'm sure you're having good time waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
I miss you old chap.
-
I have such good memories and there are still moments I feel like you're still here, walking around, sleeping like a log or rising hell for a new treat.
These years passed really fast, my dear friend, to me it's like yesterday that I found that little stray cat on a busy street.
You destroyed all you could find in my house, but that's ok you knew I didn't really care.
We went to many places, met cats, dogs, people: they were always asking about that handsome chap walking free like a little dog.
Travelling with you was a riot: a good trip on the front seat, fresh air, warm sun, plenty of things to see, and your private, official photographer; just like a movie star.
In the last few years you were the same old trouble maker, living the good life, not a single fuck was given as usual, you were just too damn cool to care.
You decided to go away the opposite of how you lived, peacefully, you just fell asleep, after a good dinner and a stroll on your favorite balcony.
I wish I was there, just to pet you one last time and say goodbye, Wilson.

A Dogs Life
Dear friends,
We are all here because we want to make sure our dogs are living their best lives
But when that life draws to an end we find ourselves totally devastated, consumed by sadness and grief.
So I wanted to write a few words to remind us of how much should also be celebrated
Please remember that a dogs life is always so much more than what happens towards the end.
For those that are truly loved ,its years of happiness, with not a care in the world,
It’s sleeping in a warm and comfy spot, feeling safe and secure.
It’s going for car rides to explore exciting new places, just seeing that leash and hearing those keys makes you soooo happy,
It’s having a special day once a year, called a birthday or gotcha day
Where you get sang to and given treats and presents even though you’ve no idea why.
It’s having Christmas with family and friends, where you don’t get left out in the present department
And not forgetting the amazing Christmas dinner either !
Its knowing it’s safe to voice your opinion and you do !
You can’t quite speak human( well almost !) ,but you can damn well get whatever you want,
You only have to sit in front of that outside door and it will be opened.
In fact it’s actually a good game that is well worth playing!
It’s having constant company, human and canine alike, knowing you belong and will always have family.
For some it’s occasionally having a dark and distant memory of a time that wasn’t so good, but knowing for sure that your life will never be like that again
It’s enjoying meal times with your special person, where you can be sure you will get your fair share too,
because somehow the way you look is just irresistible,
It’s knowing that when you walk into the room you will get quite a reaction,
Because everyone thinks you’re beautiful and you know it!
And it’s the sparkle in your eyes, and the wag in your tail because you know YOU ARE LOVED.
None of us know how to say goodbye to something so extraordinarily precious as our dogs.
So quite simply,we don’t.
It’s just like when we have to leave them home alone for a while ,we know it’s best not to say
”goodbye “
Instead we just whisper
“ back soon “
Because we know in our hearts it won’t be for long.
We will be back soon and this time it will be forever.
-
:'( :'( :'( :'( They saw you watching over them
As they finally closed their eyes
They smelt your scent as they breathed
In and out for the last time
They heard the way your voice broke
As you told them they were loved
They felt you as you held them
With your gentle, farewell touch
And now they watch each morning
As you pass their empty bed
They watch you lose composure
And they see the tears you shed
They hear you bear the silence
Of the footsteps that are gone
That walk across your heart each day
Like echoes of a song
They feel the pang of emptiness
You get when you’re alone
In moments when you realize
That they’re never coming home
But in their darkest moment
You were there to hold them tight
And they just want the same for you
So you can feel alright
So they’re sewing you a rainbow,
Weaving ribbons through the sky
So they can let you know
That life is good beyond goodbye
So next time it is raining
And the sun appears as well
Just feel and look and listen
To what they are trying to tell
They’re telling you it’s spring there
With its showers and its sun
Where there are endless fields for them
To play and stretch and run
They’re telling you they sleep upon
The biggest, softest beds
That they have stitched from all the clouds
That float above your head
They’re telling you they’re not alone
For there are many others
And they’ve been reunited
With their parents, sisters, brothers
They’re showing you their rainbow
So you know they won’t forget you
And to tell you they will always be
So happy that they met you
And they’re telling you they love you
And though they’ll be dearly missed,
Not to worry, ‘cause it’s beautiful
Beyond the rainbow bridge

The last battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep
then you must do what must be done
for this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad I understand
Don't let grief then stay your hand
For one this day, more than the rest,
your love and friendship must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so
when the time comes, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
only, stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
it is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close, we two, these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

My Dearest Friend,
As I lay here, nearing the end of my journey, I want to take a moment to thank you for the life we've shared. You were more than just my owner; you were my companion, my protector, and my greatest joy. Every wag of my tail, every bark of happiness, was a testament to the love you've shown me.
I remember our walks in the park, the times we played fetch, and the quiet evenings spent by your side. These moments were the highlights of my life, filled with pure joy and unconditional love. Your kindness and care made my world a beautiful place.
As I drift away, please know that my love for you remains as strong as ever. I am grateful for every pat on the head, every treat, and every comforting word you gave me. You made my life complete, and for that, I am eternally thankful.
Though I must leave you now, I will always be with you in spirit. Look for me in the gentle breeze, in the rustle of the leaves, and in the quiet moments when you feel a soft presence by your side. I will be there, watching over you, my dear friend.
Thank you for the wonderful life you've given me. Goodbye for now, but not forever. My love for you is endless, and I will be waiting for the day we meet again.
With all my love,
Your faithful companion :'( :'( :'( gone but never forgotten.

You only have a few years with your Dog,
so let them on the bed, the couch,
take them for rides, fetch the biggest sticks,
let them roll in mud and swim in lakes.
Time flies, they won't be here forever.
In a blink, their time is gone.
A Dog is not just an Animal; they're here to make you smile,
they love you without judgment, beyond measure.
Cherish each wag, each bark, each nuzzle,
play, walk, cuddle in quiet moments.
Their thread in life's tapestry is short,
but oh, how it brightens the whole cloth.
Let them on the bed, the couch,
for a Dog is a guardian of hearts,
a companion to souls,
a reminder of pure, unconditional love.

"They tell you not to cry.
They tell you he's just a dog, not a human.
They tell you it will pass.
They tell you that animals do not know that they must die.
They tell you that the important thing is not to make them suffer.
They tell you that you can get another one.
They tell you it will happen.
They tell you there are more unbearable pains.
But they don't know how many times you've looked your dog in the eye.
They don't know how many times it was you and your dog that looked in the dark.
They don't know how many times your dog was the only one by your side.
They don't know that the only one who hasn't judged you is your dog.
They don't know how scared you were the night his moans woke you up.
They don't know how many times your dog has slept next to you.
They don't know how much you've changed since the dog became a part of your life.
They don't know how many times you hugged him when he was sick.
They don't know how many times you pretended not to see when his hair was getting whiter and whiter.
They don't know how many times you've talked to your dog, the only one who really listens to you.
They don't know how good you were to your dog.
Little do they know that only your dog knew you were in pain.
They don't know what it's like to see your old dog trying to come over and say hello.
They don't know that when things go wrong, the only one who isn't gone is your dog.
They don't know that your dog trusts you, every moment of his life, even at the last moment.
They don't know how much your dog loved you and how little he needed to be happy, because you were enough for him.
They don't know that crying for a dog is one of the noblest, most meaningful, truest and purest things you can do.
They don't know about the last time you rocked him hard... being careful not to hurt him.
They don't know what you felt when you caressed his face in the last moments of his life.
