as i had some first place votes (why waste your time in a non-qualifer that you almost won)
sooo.........that's what im going to do (pack on some quality size/again legs!)
a few people have offered there help (gratis)..........so we will see what happens

I used to train in the same gym as a nationals level light wt named John Destefino ( JD). I told him he must have had great genetics for legs and he kinda laughed and said; " Look bro, you think I popped of my moms womb with these wheels?" Your reply was pretty much his ideals as well. His "secret" was to do squats near the end of his quad work, not at the start. He felt that you got alot more leg work in by doing extensions, leg presses and even lunges before you hit squats.You need to leave your ego at the door as your squat wt will be less. I have made my best gains doing that for us over 40 guys , it is a lot better on the back ;)

Mike as you know you didn't look bad overall for an NPC regional show.
Here is my advice: DO THE FLA MASTERS ON AUG 24-25 THIS YR IN ORLANDO.You are close to really excellent conidtion! Why stop now when you could look YOUR all time best in a few weeks??!!!
Come in ripped as possible and don't worry about wt. Your legs are not your strong pt, but if you get them shredded they will look decent on stage. After that use the fall , winter and spring to increase some leg mass and other areas, etc

I thought Laura made good improvements this show, and she took the stage with girls whose mothers are probably her around her age, and was not outclassed. Thast alone is a huge accomplishment. Personally, like I have already told her...I would like to see her keep competing. Also, like someone else mentioned in the thread already, I would rather see a girl up there natural, not all geared up with those effects, even if the physique showing/placing is weaker than the geared girls. Laura looks way better to my personal tastes than some masculine looking chick.
You guys are cool, your comments in this thread alone amused me. Keep doing your thing ;)

lol, thanks CQ. It is quite obvious that you can't be pleasing to everyone. I know I worked hard and although I'm far from National or Pro level, I did my best and held my own. A lot of those pictures are god awful and ya just gotta laugh. :)

Figure Friendly NY Style Cheesecake
Crust:
• 3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
• 1/3 cup butter
• 3 tablespoons sugar
• 1/3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Alternate Crust:
• 1 1/2 cup ground (food processor) ginger snap cookies (about 33 think cookies)
• 3 tablespoons apricot jam melted
Filling:
• 2 cups 1% Friendship Lowfat Cottage Cheese
• 1 (8oz) lowfat package of cream cheese, softened
• 1 (8oz) regular package of cream cheese, softened
• 1 cup sugar
• 4 eggs
• 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1/2 tablespoon lemon zest (grind)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 2 cups Friendship Light Sour Cream
Preheat oven to 325º. Combine chosen crust elements and press mixture evenly over the bottom and slightly up the sides of a 10-in. spring form pan. In a food processor, puree 1% Friendship Lowfat Cottage Cheese; set aside. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in lemon juice and lemon zest, vanilla, flour, Friendship Light Sour Cream and pureed cottage cheese just until evenly mixed. Pour into pan. Bake at 325ºF in the center of the oven for 60-70 minutes or until filling just set. Turn oven off, open door and let set in oven for 60 minutes. Remove sides from pan and refrigerate over night. Slice with a wet knife and serve with fresh berries.
Suggestion - Mix berries with 2 tablespoons of sugar.
Yield: 8 servings

she trains hard/eats right and is a good person to boot!
we both love it/we both want to see how far we can take it (to a national stage would be a huge achievement!)
if if doesn't happen for one/both of us that's ok
we had a blast!/made a ton of new friends!
traveled/met new people places
that's really what it is all about................the journey not the destination
(plus i suck so i have to say that!)

(i got friends who are so "into it" ........offering to help
saying if i just took a year off blew my legs up/put on size i would do well)
it be kinna hard to give it up to be honest with you.............(no "pipe dreams" here you know that)
it's fun and i enjoy the challenge/people we meet etc

You've made a lot of great points about the futility of competing and juicing up for a plastic trophy. I agree with most of it, but being an ex-competitor myself, I also see the joy and fulfilment that comes with it. The poor bastard in that pic, probably is as happy as a pig in mud...monster canckles and all. If that's what does it for him, more power to him.

BTW Mike you looked not so great but you looked very confident and in control, if you do the other show coming up and nail you conditioning like last year you will do great IMO. I agree with what that guy said about taking a year off, your legs didn't look too bad next to the others but at your height you need them bigger. Just keep improving everything (especially legs) and you could win a small show like this by next year without any doubters.

yea it was weird...............last year i was shredded! (but felt very uncomfortable/awkward on-stage)
this year i knew i was "off" but it was on! (i felt at ease and at home onstage in front of a crowd)
now if i can just blend the 2 together (ripped and confident on-stage)
ill be good!
