Yesterday I got 12 with 315 on the bench press. I would like to go up to 365 for about 6 but my concern that that I would tear a pec...I've heard that anything over 315 is not safe. What do you guys think?
-
You'll be just fine, just make sure you warm up good!
-
LOL. 12x315!? That is good enough for 1-2 at 405. ::)
/don't forget your camera

if you do 365 for your first set, then yeah you'll fuck up something in your pecs, the key is just warming up. I regularly bench 3+ plates, and i always start off with 1 plate, do 20+ reps, then a plate and a quarter, and get 15+ reps, then 2 plates and do a working set ( how ever many reps i get), and then jump all the way to the 3 plate terretory... trust me, injuries suck, it deffinateyly pays off to be safe than injured... thats my $0.02

you made the claim "stud", now back it up. :D

Don't worry, Squad calls everyone out! When I bench, i do a set of 25 with just the bar, and use a couple different grip widths. Then I do 2 or 3 sets with 135 before i move into the 300's
-
I only weighed 216 yesterday morning...you can't do this (you mentioned in another post that you can only get 5 or 6) and how much do you weigh?
-

Plueeeze, thats it,thats all you can do.you have no reason to be on Get Big unless your doing 405 for 12 like the rest of us ;)

hahahahahhaa, ahh the classic, "i only weigh 132 and i bench 600 for 20, that's not all that great, there are 25 guys in my gym under 95 pounds who do 800, if you tarined in a real gym you'd see this". ::)
-
I warm up by light jogging for 6-10 minutes on the cycle or treadmill...I don't warm up with weights, robs me of my strength...

Im by far the weakest guy here, all top benchers on this forum.

bullshit, let's see a video.
Why does everyone have to prove something to you. You feel they need to drop what they are doing go find a camera then get a friend and record it to satisfy some 20+% bodyfat internet douche bag. Even if he is bullshitting it's not like he bragging or using to make someone else seem small, he's just asking a question ::)
-
I just hammered out 23 reps with 405, but I'm a little scared to try 465. What do you guys think?

That's what I mean, it's not like the guy is bragging or tryin to act badass he is just asking a simple question. As for me I don't ever talk about my lifts much and I don't claim anything outrageous anyway. Go attack sevastase for talking shit on Dzulboy even though he is half his size and uses just as much, don't forget also because he looks like a retarded bald witch and homo tennis penis player.

I normally start with 135 for 15, 225 for 8, then my heavy set with is with 315...Sometimes I'll drop set down to 225, which I normally fail between 18 and 23 reps (depending on the time I take between sets). I have heard that if you go pass 315 you are simply asking for a pec tear (pros use HGH which helps with this). I know a guy who was maxing out (385lbs) and his pec riped.

Duhhh...uhhh...grunt, snort, fart, shouldn't this thread be over on the Training Q&A forum instead...duhhhh....!???
Hey bro, why not wear one of those extra-tight bench-bump-bounce shirts (the new ones actually have built-in compression springs to give you more bench bump bounce)!
Oh, and, be sure and take more 'roids, GH, BB drugs, synthol oil, and even get plastic surgery done to your pecs. to blow/stuff-dem pecs. up in size so that you'll only have to bounce-bump the weight just a few inches...like all of dem illegal drug-bloated, surgically-altered/stuffed with ???, pro. BB FREAKS (the "heroes" of American youth)!

You claimed 5 to 6 reps with 315. That's not alot of difference. Were you bullshitting about the 5 to 6 reps?

No, I am the weakest bencher here.
Don't know max but 5 reps 225lbs...maybe on a good day...
-

hahahahhaa, of course it's a big difference, it's DOUBLE the reps for fuccks sake. ::)

If I have a good week (eating alot and good workouts) I can increase 1 to 2 reps a week on my heavy bench set. Of course Superdrol doesn't hurt either. It's better strengh builder than Test.

is this guy serious?!
you're the same kinda person that believes there's no reason to go below parallel on squats either right?!

Not buying this...anyone that can grind out 315 for 12 is not at all worried about 365........315 would be a warm-up set. You don't just wake up one day and pound out 315 for 12. Hell, long before you hit 315 for 12 you would've already tried 365. If you have gotten 6 or 7 with 315 you woulda tried 365.
-

What? I don't think I've ever talked about squats. I do sets that are parallel and some sets that are ass to floor. What do you think I'm not being serious about?

oh shit you fuccked up now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you better watch out WT, "kiwi's" bench goes up by two reps per week, so by next summer he'll be benching 2300 for 10, aren't you terrified? ::)

Sounds like the only thing going up for this guy is his weekly expenditure on vagisil...scared to get under anything remotely resembling alot of weight and then wants people to stroke it nad tell him 315 is huge and shoudln't go any higher because he might grow so large he can't walk through the doors of the gym. ::)

I'll give you an honest reply. I used to handle 315 for 8-10 every week. I occasionally would do 365 for 3-4 or a 405 for a single (couple times got 2), but one time was too much and on a set of 365 I was handling it really well but my pec tore anyway.
IMO, do dumbells first, incline & flat, then do your benches. 315 will seem very hard and you'll not need to test your ego.

Don't use a weight you can't do for 6 reps and the chances of tearing a pec will be decreased to almost zero. What the hell is the point of doiing a set for 1 or 2 reps. Even a set of 3 or 4 is stupid unless you are a powerlifter. The same goes for maxing out. What the fuck does anyone ever need to max out for. Maxing out is gayer than Sevastase's locker room tighty whitey pics. When you get to the gym each day, LEAVE YOUR EGO IN THE LOCKER ROOM with your muscetech products.

tell that to Ronnie Coleman and Jonnie Jackson.

Why would you not want to incorporate different routines and different rep schemes into your training?!! ??? To not do so is to limit what limited ability you'd already have. Training without a brain and an open mind and not questioning things or trying out new things is one way to leave you behind while other people are blowing the fuck out.
Oh I forgot...we're just here to "stay fit"
-
tell that to Ronnie Coleman and Jonnie Jackson.
In some of his video's, Ronnie does a few heavy squats and deads for sets of 2. The majority of his lifting is done in sets of 10 or so, at least that's what he says.

Maxing out and doing sets of 1 or 2 is ego lifting, not a training "scheme".

so you're telling me that training in a lower rep range for POWER to help with your higher rep range work is pointless?! ???
please enlighten me as to why!

Low reps range as in 6-8, fine. Low as in 1-2, hell no. Why you ask? 2 main reasons the first being RISK OF INJURY. Second, I don't believe you can fully fatigue the muscle with a 1 or 2 rep set.

Here. I went to an 80's fitness party in Atlanta at the end of august. Here's a pic from my buddies house after we got back from shopping for cheesy outfits at the local thrift stores!

You claimed 5 to 6 reps with 315. That's not alot of difference. Were you bullshitting about the 5 to 6 reps?
lol...thanks for proving that your claims are bs
5-6 reps and 12 reps are worlds of difference...if you'd lift weights once in a while you'd realize that

there's always a risk of injury when working out so that excuse, even though still a valid one, sounds to me like a reason to accept mediocre lifts and not really push it hard in the gym...
and your'e right you normally don't gas with doubles or triples but, show me one perosn that only trains doing doubles or triples in their training anyway AND after a few sets of them, if you're not tired as hell from pushing some heavy shit, you're not working hard enough.
I'm starting to understand why more and more people now adays can't imagine how anyone can bench over 350,squat more than 405, or dead more than 405 wihtout the aid of some sort of lifting gear or some other sort of aid.

so back to the question i just asked..
I just don't see going that heavy to be worth the risk. I think sets of 6 is plenty heavy. I use very strict form when I train, and I feel like Im comprimising my form when I go any heavier than that. In my last 8 years of serious training I've had 2 minor injuries, both times while using really heavy weight. Once I hurt a shoulder military pressing 135 pound dumbells, and also hurt my chest on a 455 pound set of bench presses. Both times i had to take it easy for a few weeks, but Im lucky that was all. Since then, I dont use a weight I don't think I can get for 6 reps.

makes sense but you have a reason..you've had past injuries...that scenario is for you specifically since you are not the total populace. I feel like there is no reason what so ever to not incorporate low rep training into your training at all time. Since everyone is different and responds differently to certain types of training, to tell people NOT to do it for this or that reason seems abit.... just wrong to me. Its' like that bullshit about squats below parallel hurt your knees..which I used to believe. Squats below parallel dont' hurt my knees...SQUATS TO PARALLEL STOPPING ALL THAT FUCKING WEIGHT MIDWAY THROUGH THE MOTION HURTS THE FUCKING KNEES!! >:( haha.
for you not to do it it's understandable...
for you to tell everyone not to...is kinda near sighted and the people that follow that advice are morons to begin with.

Actually, I squat ass to the floor. Stopping at parallel also hurts my knees. I just don't see why anyone but a powerlifter would use 1-2 or even 3-4 rep sets, but everyone has their own beliefs and those are just mine.

wisconsinBB you look huge :o
what does your typical leg routine look like?
-
wisconsinBB you look huge :o
what does your typical leg routine look like?
I actually just switched up my leg routine at the beginning of august. Right now its 5 sets squats supersetted with 5 sets lying leg curls, then 5 sets stiff legged deads supersetted with 5 sets leg extensions. Then I finish off with 4 sets of walking lunges. Prior to that my program for a long time was
4 sets squatss(ass to the floor)
4 sets leg press
4 sets hack squat or smith front squats
4 sets walking lunges
4 sets leg extensions
-
Yesterday I got 12 with 315 on the bench press. I would like to go up to 365 for about 6 but my concern that that I would tear a pec...I've heard that anything over 315 is not safe. What do you guys think?
Somebody who is able to lift what you claim would never ask such an asinine question. Someday IF you ever are able to BP that, you'll see what I mean.
-

cool. thats about the same as i do. your old routine that is.

Its pretty basic, but thats pretty much how my training has always been. The program I'm on right now is just to switch things up some. Supersets are a bitch though!

Not exactly.... I don't know if he's fucking around or not but I have never put more then 225 on a flat bench since I was younger and stupid (most ever was about 280-290 at 18-19) but I rep the 225 even on inclines at the end of a chest workout now. I don't like to test my strength and would rather use dumbells until that 225 is hard to do (like only 6reps). I just hate flat bench also and rarely do it because of the risk of injury, I have never done more then a rep or two with 225 on the flat and that was just to see how easy it was.
-

It seems to me that it would be easier to get hurt using dumbbells than a barbell?

I tried quad sets before and it was the most intense leg workout I ever did.
I pyramided up the weight with each set and did about 5sets
Front smith machine squat x10-15 then turn around
Regular smith machine squat x10-15
Hack squat machine x10-15
Leg press x10-20
I would have to walk around aimless between sets so as not to get tightened up and toward the end just lye on the floor in a puddle of my own sweat cause my legs felt like jello and I was dizzy.
-
It seems to me that it would be easier to get hurt using dumbbells than a barbell?
The dumbbells feel more comfortable to me, main thing is you can bail on them any time.

There's a BIG difference between 225 and 315. An even bigger difference when you're talking about 315 for 12 reps or so.

I just mean I can understand someone not wanting to test their strength.I know people who have lifted heavy weights many of time and then one day using a normal weight they tear a pec or rip their shoulder out. Any time who are pushing 6reps or lower (when your fresh) your putting alot of stress on your joints.
I doubt he got the 12 reps easy if he even did it, probably had a few half reps.

I doesn't matter if people believe it not...I got 12 full reps with 315. My wife said she had to give a slight pull on the 12 rep (although I did not feel her pull).
When I say I can gain 2 reps on my heavy set of bench per week I am referring to eating right, working out hard, and being on some sort of analoblic agent (Superdrol in this case). I have also lose 2 reps in a week if I don't eat enough calories, do to much cardio, do to much delt work, cutting up, etc.
The questions is legit, I've heard from alot people that say if you do Bench Press don't go above 315 because of the risk of a pec tear. Most of these people seem to believe that DBs or Inclines are safer.
MOS - Yes in my life I have went above 315, on my second heavy bench set I've done 4 reps with 365 (I weighed about 240 at the time), however I've only done this maybe 2 or 3 times) I have only maxed out once and it was about 4 months ago and I got 405 at a body weight of 205. I keep thinking that if I tear a pec then I'm going to have all of this weigh coming down and crushing my chest or head. Like I said I heard of this guy that tore his pec with a max out at 385, the people that saw it said that the entire pec just fell. I believe the guy spend a shit load of money having his pec repaired (money that I don't have)

I have flat benched with a barbell maybe 3-4 times in 4 years 8) I throw in flat dumbell press though... I just stick to incline.
-
bullshit, let's see a video.
You are such a fag. Why is it so hard for you to believe anyone can do this. Fuck I can do this. I have done 315 for 12 for 3 sets then hit the 400's for reps afterwards. You live in a small bubble. What if you can't do it then no one else can?

And you've done 315 for 3 sets of 12?

The only thing I could see happening is 315#'s crushing you.

You are an idiot. Given your responses.............I could easily outlift your ass even if you where jacked up on roids. Hell I outlifted most tards in the gym who where anyway, why not add another idiot to the pile. ;D
P.S. I first benched 315 back in high school over 20 years ago when I weighed less than 200 pounds. I do not profess to be a bodybuilder. I am a weight lifter....there is a huge difference. You are ignorant. ;D

haha exactly, judging by how skinny and weak this geek "eric2" looks, I doubt "he" could even press 315 for 1.

You do know that "weightlifter" technically means an Oly lifter, right? But I'm sure you knew that, being that you've been in the iron game for so long. By the way, what's your best C&J? ::)

O.k I'll bite. You guys are a couple of ass clowns. Especially you Pandemonium, your avatar says it all.
I have posted my picture on getbig, what was I thinking. I weigh 235 at 6'2. I must be a small little shit compared to these pro's who are what? 5'8 and weigh 30 pounds more than I all jacked up on the sauce. I forgot who your heroes where.
I only talk about what I can lift so that others can know it's possible. I am not skinny by any definition, and if you 2 fags saw me in person you would not say shit. I could hand you two your asses, probably at the same time. I know your character traits. You Waite on these boards for someone to step up and proclaim something.........anythi ng. then you slam the insults and attacks so you can make your miserable lives better for just a minute. Go outside and seek experience in something..........anyth ing. Push away from the computer. The number of your posts says it all.

hahaha maybe some day you can work up to a brutal set of 315x12 on bench press..

Exactly, why all the hate? I would rather go grab a beer at my age than fight someone.
-

I dunno man, I still struggle with 135x3. Last workout I got buried under it and three guys at the gym had to bail me out.

hahaha, is this the point where you ask us if we're interested in a "relationship" with a "mature muscle bear"? Sorry man, I'm married. But there's this guy MisterMagoo who used to post here who is known to suck the occasional cock.

Yesterday I got 12 with 315 on the bench press. I would like to go up to 365 for about 6 but my concern that that I would tear a pec...I've heard that anything over 315 is not safe. What do you guys think?
If you go heavier use the Hammer Strength Machine, very safe Partially tore a pec many years ago on flat benches.
-
I tore my chest with 315 on the flat, even if it was for a set of 12 reps. Freaky shit.

if the guy in your avatar is you you sure as shit don't look like you push 385.
-
I didn't read this thread but you can tear your pec with light weight too. I slightly tore my left pec warming up with 225. I have never been hurt lifting heavy. Even when I blew out my L4 and L5 squatting it was with just 385. I was doing sets of 10 reps and on my last set just couldn't get it up and bent forward an bam there goes my lower back.

Yeah but the light weight is the "straw that broke the camel's back." These kinds of injuries are almost always the cumulative effect of lots of heavy lifting and joint/muscle wear and tear, or sometimes the result of muscular imbalances.

You are trying too hard here. Considering your post count I am surprised you are so ready to talk poundages.
Myself I once almost did a full rep with a 35 on each side. Anyone claiming 315 on a bench is a liar. The world record isn't even that high.
-
It would be interesting to know how many of you are natural who are claiming to have benched 315...I rarely see anyone at the gym doing these kind of poundages...I have only seen one guy do it in the four years I have been in the gym, and he is big and has been training for awhile...I haven't seen the average mofo do it...I am curently at 255 and it took me a few years to get there and I am making 315 my ultimate goal, but I can barely budge the bar at 255 for one rep (maybe two)...andf I am doing 80 lb dumbbells (each arm)... I am obese, 5 ft 4in and 261 (large pot belly but everything else is normal size)...and 45 years old and a life time natural..started training about 3 and half years ago for strength (in case someone tries to mug me) not for weight loss or to look good...I am finally starting a regimen to lose weight... but it's very dificult to believe that everyone on here is doing 315...no offense guys and I'm not trying to flame anyone...but I really have rarely seen anyone capable of doing that...even the big mofos I've seen (who are natural) rarely even attempt three plates.
-
Oh and one question...do you guys do your presses elbows in or elbows out?...I do mine elbows out....(seems to put a lot of stress on my shoulders)..would I be better able to handle heavy poundages with elbows in?....I feel uncomfortable doing it that way and I don't feel as strong, but I will go along with any suggestions you guys have...thanks

onlyme is exactly right.....most of my injuries happened during mid-weight sets before I got to the heavier stuff.

So just what does a post count have to do with the talking of poundages.? Is one suddenly gifted with a 315 pound bench when they hit the 1000 plus post mark? Idiot.
Yesterday I benched 315 cold for 2 reps. I tell you guys what, I will get someone to video me the next time I bench 315 for reps and you will see that it really is possible. I swear some of you guys live in a hole. I have had a bench over 300 since high school and all natural.
I will have a video posted in a week or so and you can see for yourself. ;D

thats impressive for a natural. when i was at at my fattest i could crank out 3 reps with 315. i wont try 315 now though. dont think it would be so wise at low carbs.

You're right, I am an idiot. Can you maybe give me some training tips for bench? 315lbs for 2 or 3 cold is incredible. I would like to maybe break a plate per side by Christmas.
here is my split:
set 1: bar x 8
set 2: bar + 10lbs/side x 4
set 3: bar + 25/side x 2
set 4: bar x 35/side x1 + 3 negatives.
Then I have a cell tech shake and some NO-explode.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

People seem to claim to "throw around" 315 like its nuttin around here..

Bench press with 315 is safe! Trust me!

no im not one of the best benchers ..at all..
not every thing works on a formula..
ive been benching ..315 from a lighter bodyweight..for less rep.. but i still used to get it
..im not a small guy...

No... they arent...
those are old
..
im doing bench next week.. I might video my set with 315

OP do make sure you warm up, especially if you are natural. If you are on the sauce, you should know it has an analgesic effect where you dont really feel pain (kinda like an aspirin), and also there is this thing called the golgi tendon organ (spelling? - its been a while since i studied this stuff) which tells your body to stop doing whatever it's doing because something bad is about to happen....people on juice pay no attention to this organ. Thats why you don't see many natural people tearing muscles.

like that black guy who benched nearly 6 plates.. that u posted if he was on here and said he could bench that u would call bullshit...
wouldnt you?
exactly..
cmon man u should realise by now that not everyone is the same.... a lot of lifts u called bullshit on for chris mason as well.. and it turned out he is a strong guy...

Having trained at Gold’s Gym’s Venice, Gold’s Redondo Beach, Hanks Gym in Huston Texas, Samson’s Gym in Rochester, NY., World Gym Venice, Powerhouse Gym, Venice, Muscle Mill, Redondo Beach and about a dozen others and the strongest benchers in the World are right here on Getbig.
In fact, Getbig has the highest number of people repping 315 with shear ease, like nobody’s business than any 5 Gyms in the World… simply amazing! ::)

I'm not saying I'm very strong at 52 but I still get people coming up to me in the Gym and commenting about the weights I use. Yet when I compare to what people say they handle on this board I think... "Man I must be the weakest guy on Getbig!"
Things that make you go... hmmmmm.

I don't see people repping 315 all the time, but I'm sure alot of people can. The thing with getbig is that on most people on getbig are committed to working out and getting "big". Most of the people I see in the gym are not committed.
Like the guy who said he can bench 250...or something like that...and then he says that he has a hugh pot belly. I would say that this person is not as committed as I am. Hell when I'm trying to get stronger I will wake up twice in the middle of night for food.

Squad if you were to strip on the fat and then go on a hyper calorie diet (not the pizza and beer you eat today). You could also bench alot at a low body weight.

like i said before man i give you props on your build you look good but you're claimimg weights that the strongest 290-300 pound lineman in the NFL lift at the weight of a decent sized safety, i believe you could bench 225-235 for 15 but no way 315 for 15, sorry.
-
i dont bench 235 my friend
...
from 225 i go to 315 sorry if thats out of your realm.. not mine..
and i never get less than 10 with 315...
the best ive done with it is 15 unassisted reps.. on normal days no less than 10
...i have no need to prove anything to anyone but i will for a good cause...
u put up $50 to a charity of my choosing... and i will post a vid of me benching 315
that i have no problem with..

315 isn't out of my realm, i can usually push 6-7 with it on a good day but you're right no way in hell could i do 15 reps with it, 15 reps is a totally different world than 6, 15 reps is a toy weight basically that should give a guy at least 3-4 with 405.

if i dont i am a bullshit liar fool whatever..
and i will delete my account... and i will put $60 up as well to a charity of your choice

tell you what, i'll put up 60 if you get 15 UNASSISTED reps with 315 like you claimed.

15 reps... was my best ever... that i cannot guarantee.. i have to be on peak for that
...what i guarantee is no less than 10 reps... i already stipulated that
No less than 10..
you said.. i look like i culd bench 235 for to max...
im sain i can do 315 for no less than 10.
15 reps is my peak performance only ever done once
NO LESS THAN 10 REPS IS WHAT I GURANTEE... meanin could be 11 12 or 13
anybody
-
Has the word "rep" actually been defined here. Rep to me is all the way down, touch the chest, then all the way up. I've seen plenty of videos of guys counting some really half ass shit as reps.

i didn't say 235 for a max, i said 235 for 15 would be believable.

the bar always touches my chest.... always
its how i was taught to bench
-
I can't get to 315 to save my life

How about you stop bumping threads that are 1-3 years old retard?
-
ive known people to tear a pec with 225, so just warm up and be safe
-
the way i found to beat this is to do bench last as a pressing movement,i start with incline db then hammer flat press, then to flat bench, you wont be nearly as strong but you can go 100 percent withiout worrying about a pec injury, plus it gives you a great pump this way
