Holy shit look how hard Putnam got. Looks like he should go pro.
-
Was just going to say. Putman is ripped. He can't lose with that. He's also got that 5th quad muscle Jay Cutler has.

I'm also very impressed with these improvements! I would not lose any sleep if he got his card.

whose winning would you lose sleep over?

Hes an awkward lookin poser though. I recently just went to a local show in my city and damn some people would place so much better if they just knew how to pose
-
Putnam! way better thn what I had expected
-
Charles is killing the competition - check the comparisons out!
-
Man Putnam went for it. How could he not have. BTW guys I'm just 60 minutes into this Nasser Night and I am already destroyed.
-
That's close. Peter is in much better shape than he was at the USA's but Dixon is thicker than Peter just about everywhere except quads.
I'm glad I'm not a judge. Can't they just give out 2 pro cards?

Nah, Putnam's got the edge on him in polish. He's ready.
-
i just finish rereading some Homer too, i know how you feel.
-
whose winning would you lose sleep over?
Depends on the situation.
I lost a lot of sleep with Bertil coming fifth in 1983. >:(
-

Yeah this is gettin' close to that. OK, next up for discussion. What do you guys think of Alex onstage? Check out this other guy next to him. He's got Alex on upper body but Alex has him in the lowers. I haven't even finished making sure I've seen all the lightweight competitors yet but I already see this one here as an interesting comparison.

If Alex is the guy in the top pic, he's got the other guy beat.
-
From the front.
-
If Alex is the guy in the top pic, he's got the other guy beat.
Goatboy--------> Alex, or that may have been before he saw the front pics.
Why would you say Alex should place ahead of this other guy? What's everyone else think? Seriously, this makes you have to dig into your constitution to place them. It essentially comes down to what qualities you value most in a bodybuilder. You really have to consider, who beats who, and why?
-
i'm waiting for the taller heavier classes. that's just a preference.
-
OK guys the guy compared to Alex above is Jeff Olcsvary. He won the lightweight class at Junior Nationals this year and if you look at these pics below, he's made a shit ton of improvement since. He's way harder tonight than he was at Juniors. He could still get a tad harder, though, Alex next to him shows us that much. Alex's back is much smoother but that looks to be primarily genetic to me. Still, who do you think wins from the back? Upper body showing the shreds or lower body showing the shreds?
http://contest.bodybuilding.com/bio/7431/
From the front, well, Alex looks harder, but this guy may be a bit more "marketable." They could also argue that Alex's tan is a little off. A little too dark it seems.
All in all, I still think Alex should take it, though. With all his involvement in the local shows around here, he's gotta have Jon Lindsay behind him, so he should be good on the political front, and he surely did his PR this time around with the pics posted here. He PM'ed me earlier today telling me that he'd been having people left and right in Dallas come up to him and say they saw his pics on the internet. He says he counted 25,000 total views between all the threads posted on the various boards about him and those pics.
See how you can leave no stone unturned? And remember, he still might not even get top 4...it'll just be depending on what they're looking for. If the comparison pictures are in order, Alex didn't even make the first callout. I think they replace the Jeff guy a little farther into it with him, but I really can't tell what actually might be going on in them. I really do wonder if they posted the comparison pics in order.
-
good build but jeff he has bad gyno in those pics...
-
Alex looks fantastic from the backside. 8)
Hi Jeff! :-*
-
After looking at all the comparisons, I had Dixon winning 5 poses (all from back), most muscular, side tri and bi. I think Peter wins front lat spread (close), abs and thighs. Front double-bi is a toss-up.
Not sure what's gonna happen in that close. All subjective but after looking at the comparisons I think Dixon might be slightly ahead. Could be completely wrong but the comparisons from the back weren't even close, even with Peter's hams much, much better. Dixon is just way to thick on those poses and on side bi and tri for Peter.
Who knows. That's why it's a bodybuilding contest.

yes and good post but stan beat dixon too..and i thought last year dixon housed stan and u see where that went.putnam is very good, dixon has pro mass,,,,
-
Yeah, I know I've given Peter a lot of shit on here, but 95% of those posts were when I was not sober. I honestly to think he's a nice guy just living out a dream.
If he wins the show, I will not think it was a gift or not deserved. He is in very, very good shape. Best I've ever seen him look in pictures. He's done his job and come in much better than at the USA's. I think Dixon might just be too thick for him. It really depends on what the judges value more, condition or mass. It's not that Dixon is in BAD shape, Peter just has him beat. He's much leaner and dryer. Dixon just look so much thicker in several poses, though, that it's going to be tough for Peter to beat him.
It's all in the hands of the judges (as they say). I think that one is still anyone's to win going into tomorrow. I would have Dixon ahead right now but either could win. Like I said, both should get a pro-card.
-
From the callouts Alex wont even be top 3. He's a super nice guy, but his colour is absolutely horrible. He's way too dark and oily, its totally hiding his physique. Also he did look better about 2 weeks out or so.
I like the guy, but tonight just wasnt his night.
-
good build but jeff he has bad gyno in those pics...
Good point. You know what else I'm thinking, both with the Jeff guy AND Dixon...I'm thinking they know that if they make them wait one more year for the nod, that next year they can come in a SOLID winners and represent their respective NPC National titles better for them. I'm not sure how much better Peter would be if you made him wait another year at this point. He won his class at the USA's looking alot worse than he does here so I mean they almost have to reward him with the win. Hey, is it true that Dixon was breaking shit backstage last year after getting beaten by Stan?
-
Oh yea, and the pics up on flexonline are HORRIBLE. way too small, and just taken at really shitty angles
-
God-damm it!(flex don't even mention ALEX)
In the lighter classes, lightweights is a battle between Jeffrey Olcsvary of Lake Charles, Louisiana, James Williams of Greeneville, South Carolina, and Leonardo Pacheco of New York; and bantams are led by Dave Candy of Pittsburgh, Fernando Abaco of Rocklin, California, Art Santellan of Anaheim, California, and John McKnight of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Yes, this isn't looking good...
-
Cherry's pec really doesn't look all that bad... smallest waist in show, IMO...
-
I WANNA KNOW HOW FLEX'S VERY OWN PHOTOGRAPHER(S) GOT SUCH SHITTY PRESS SEATS
These pics are shot from a friggin' 45 degree angle, alot of them!
-
whose winning would you lose sleep over?
LOL!
-
Look, this is kinda bullshit, all you hear about are the ones that got publicity throughout the year and those are the ones that are going to plasce high or win NO MATTER wether someone comes out of the woodwork or not, as far as I'm concerned, it's another scam in the process.
-

Yeah, he at least looks good from what I can see here...

You think Dixon beats Putnam then?
-
Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler and the other guy doing the live round-by-round posting at FlexOnline all picked Dixon to win :-\

The pics don't come up for me, I try to click on the weightclass links and it just goes back to the top of the page.

OK guys, this just in from the Azerian camp. Alex's wife Nga just PM'ed me this; I'm posting portions of it with her approval:
"...tonight didn't go as planned but we aren't too disappointed. we just pick up and move onto whatever life takes us next. who knows. maybe baby number two on the way soon instead of a pro card. whatever happens, we accept it as the way its suppose to be. He's gained a lot of new friends and gotten to know people like you so that in itself is worth all he's put into it...
...He's in Dallas and is just disappointed he didn't do everyone proud. But we all know better than that. I couldn't be more proud of him. I wish I was there to give him a hand as his tan was not so great and had to rely on the kindness of strangers to help him and he was told that hurt him in placings a bit. but he'll be back in the gym doing what he loves, being a dad, and a great husband, and that's what matters..."
Hmmm. :(
-

Absolutely think Dixon wins. ;D

Alex is a good guy, can't wait to meet him at the Excaliber. Jeff, are you going?
-
Was the other guy black too? ;D
Is that supposed to be funny??
-
Doesn't really matter what color they are, it was their take and 2 are pro's (not judges but Wheeler and Ray probably did, oh, 100 pro shows between them?
I'd like to see the score cards for each pose. I still think I'm right on on Dixon winning 5 of them. He's just too thick.
-
Is that supposed to be funny??
OK bro I'm gonna break it down for you real simple like, no bullshit. You take a black guy and a white guy on stage where it could pretty much go either way, and a black person judging is gonna prefer the black competitor, and a white person judging is gonna favor the white competitor. Dare I say, EVERY DAMN TIME, if all other factors are equal. (i.e. the black judge isn't friends with the white guy and doesn't even know the black guy, etc.) In this show, in my personal opinion, Dixon could be better, and Peter's done good just to get to where he is. The stage has been set for Putnam all year, it's his time, and if anyone ever told him to just keep doing what he's doing until Nationals and he'll be fine, well, it looks like he's just kept on and then some. Dixon can win the class in style and perhaps even the overall at the USA next year if he keeps at it. That's how good I think his shape is. Now, long term potential? Dixon will annihilate Putnam if they ever both make it to a pro stage. Sorry, but that's the breakdown. Anybody wanna venture a guess as to who Matt T will pick? ;D
-
Peter's lookin' TIGHT!

Alex A could look much sharper, looks like he may still be holding water.

I'm only going if I know for sure you're gonna be in shape! :o
;)

Hey guys. I have a front and center seat and there are pics of every competitor. I took a few shots at different angles to give different views.
Alex A's color was the worst in the show. Whomever did his color should never do tanning again. There were some solid competitors in his class. I have him in 7th or 8th in his class. Even with better coloring I'd have him no higher than 5th.
I'd have putnam winning over dixon. I had dixon as my pick going into the show but it looks like he'll be a bridesmaid for a third time.
I'd put ad cherry winning with curry in second. Curry has some awesome guns and conditioning better than usas but needs more quad size and a bit drier.
Evan has the supers no problem and should take the overall tomorrow.
I'll try to take better photos for the getbig nation.
Peace

We can't wait, Isaac. Thanks. The Getbig Nation is very strong at present time and growing stronger by the second. 8)
Oh yeah, happy Nasser Night. ;D

Alex A...too dark...too oily...making him look smooth.

I'm only going if I know for sure you're gonna be in shape! :o
;)
Ha, you can bet on it :D!!
-
I say BW-Candy, Lw-Parcheco#137, MW-Raymond, LHW-Peter Or Dixon, HW-Cherry, SHW-Evan. Peter looks alot better here than in the USA. Dixion is packing alot of muscle on his frame, but conditioning is a little off. Alex's color destroyed his lines.
-
Thanks, Lift, and all~ Great reporting from inside the house and interesting comments from photo observers!

Oh thats why the pics sucked. Cos you took em Isaac. I should have known ;D
Good reporting, and it looks like AD is finally taking it home. Word from Dallas is, he is going to give Centopani a run for his money for the overall.
-
Shame to hear about Alex. I thought he was gonna cause an upset. Oh well the bloke looked awesome in the pics prior to the show and bought along conditioning that isn't seen too much these days.
-
ok, this is the worst lat tear I've ever seen :o
-
ok, this is the worst lat tear I've ever seen :o
Yeah maybe but he still looks pretty good! Who is that?
-
I was holding my breathe when you were all proclaiming him the best conditioned BB of all-time based on a few gym shots. I knew he would never look as good on stage, that's the way it always is.
-

Dude has some tears, not sure what his story is on the flaws but packs some muscle.

Ya that's why those damn FLEX photos sucked, leave it to that LIFT guy.
AD should be victorious tomorrow night but Evan is too much for anyone to overtake him. Only thing with Evan is he's too timid on stage and needs to be more aggressive in the comparisons.

It's because he wasn't in the top five and will finish in the 7-9 placings.

It looked to me like they tried replacing Jeff with Alex after they got done with Jeff just to make sure Alex really couldn't hang. Is that the way you saw it, Isaac? Was I seeing that right in the Flex pics? In this way, Alex could have either been first, or like you said, below the top 5. He and Jeff's stats (height and general muscle mass level) were on par with each other just enough to where it was gonna be one or the other going against the other guys they had picked out for the top 4-5.

Alex wasn't in the top callouts. I met Alex this weekend, don't know him, have nothing against him personally. I know he's disappointed and should be a humbling experience. I'm not sure how one lets their color get to looking like his was. It smoothed him out and showed very little of his conditioning. Even with the bad coloring/tanning there were other guys that had better lines and packed more muscle on their frames.
I did not have him in the top five. If I was judging I'd have him 7/8th but I'm just the dude taking pictures yall love to bitch about, so what do I know? ;D

So what do you think about that light heavyweight class. It seems like Dixon should win but when him and Putnam are standing next to each other, something about Putnam just stands out a bit more, even though Dixon lb for lbs outmasses him like nobodies business.

I already have Ron as the wingman - who gets all the ladies while I'm working. True story.

you pretty much hit the nail right on the head there. But with one exception. With perfect colouring and a lot less oil, Alex would have been top 3.

Dixon packs a TON of muscle on his frame. He's not a tall guy but damn he is thick and definitely more mass than Peter. Dixon doesn't have the deep cuts in his legs that Putnam does and Peter's conditioning is better than Dixon's. Auguste looked good too but Peter put it together this time and I'd have no arguments with him winning it.
-
Alex looked great pre comp(in the gym shots) but seemed to have blurred out a bit (upper body especially) during comp..must have been anxiety/stress.Too much cortisol being released into the system due to stress i guess.

Very true, it will be controversial no matter what happens.
But you are right, Putnam has him in the lower body big time, even his hamstring are better ( which peter has really brought up since the usa, along with his conditioning).

Ok Issak, be honest. There's 277 competitors in this show and the only ones you hear about are the ones that got publicity throughout the year, did everyone get judged properly or just the one's that were already pre-judged in the magazines?? I'm having a real hard time thinking that there was NO ONE else that can compare to the ones that recieved the pub!!
-

I know it's hard in there, bro; I didn't mean to offend you. The pace is just too fast to keep up sometimes is all. I know because when I was at the Ironman in '04 shooting for Mayhem I had barely gotten through getting what I wanted to of Dexter and Lee Priest and the prejudging was over with. On top of that, I got home and they weren't even in focus.

Shouldn't you be on a treadmill right about now? You're bitching and you've already admitted that you haven't even looked at anybody's pictures yet. ::)
Hey speaking of which, you gonna train in Venice tomorrow? ;D

Already did my cardio for the day (and night), but even though I can't bring the pics up, it shouldn't be too hard to believe that out of 277 competitors that there isn't a couple of standouts that couldn't compare to the media darlings!
Dunno yet, I have to work in the morning and my fiance' has a teachers conference, we'll see how I feel.

They are media darlings for a reason.

Not tonight he wouldn't. Perfect coloring and less oil - he'd be 4-6 MAYBE. Top three out muscled him by far.
Photo evidence - especially in the Wheel Department.

That's not true at all. There are guys that haven't received the "hype" in the top callouts. The show was well judged in my opinion. The only big surprise to me was Crump not getting into the first callouts in his class.

ok, gotta take your word for it, I'm not there. How did my boy Abbas look?
-
Peter will make a good Pro and represent the sport well.

Did you take these pictures?
Yes - I am shooting the show for FLEX/Muscle & Fitness. I'll be happy to show you more of anyone who is "getting screwed" and just "hyped in the magazines". LOL

Abbas was in great conditioning. He needs to bring up the caliber in the guns but great showing for his physique. Will probably be in 5th place.

Cool, I saw him this week before he left and his legs and glutes were insane!!
-
LOL. Sure you will - like when you were going to show up at the Sac. show. LOL! It's all good mang.
haha we'll have to meet up one of these days, it would be much better talking shit to you in person than online
-
Damn, Alex's colour is pretty bad. Shame.
Ron "Yogi" Avidan came out before the show and said, "Man Alex is going to take his class he really looks great." He came out and we had to do a double take as no one recognized him. This is no dish on Alex but it is what it is. It looked like Ron and Alex were backstage mud wrestling. Needless to say Ron quickly changed his prediction.
Live and learn but at this level in the game a misstep can cost you a placing or two and next thing you know, you're not posing at night. Only the top five in each class will do their 2 minute posing routine.
-

Dare we ask what compromising position you were in that you were privy to seeing his glutes and legs? ;D
-
The guy right above Alex looks really good in those pics. Im predicting him to take that class. Alot of muscle for a lightweight on that frame.
-
Doesn't mean the others shouldn't get a fair shot.
There's a whole lot a competitor can do nowadays to make sure they get looked at. Take you for example. TRUST ME BRO, YOU WILL BE LOOKED AT at your show. Realize that in the Excalibur coming up, you will be the equivalent to any of these "media darlings" after the last 3 months you've spent on here. ;D
Seriously though, if there's a competitor on the National stage that looks like they should win it, and they don't get looked at because we've never seen or heard of them, well, that's just nobody's fault but their own anymore.
-

The same one that you and Ron are in as you were typing this message.....ohhhhhhhhhhh GOTCHA ISAAC! ;D

I'd actually have the guy in the first photo winning this class. The guy you mentioned has a good physique but not quite as conditioned as the other two, still very good though.

I'm typing the message at the desk in the hotel room while Ron is still pimping at TGIFridays. Good try but no soup fo you. NEXT!

Yeah its a shame. The guy was proper shredded, like old school shredded, but that tan just killed it for him. Doesn't look very impressive at all onstage. Just goes to show the difference between a good tan and a bad one. Well he will know for next time, hopefully.

I like the guy in the first photo, its just that he's a bit blocky for a lightweight IMO. But very very good, he's has the most size in the class by far, its just not a eye pleasing physique to me.
But thats just one black mans opinion :)
-
Isaac who do u have taking the middleweight class. thats a very very tough close call, between the top 3 guys. All who have different types of physiques. Who do u see taking that class?
-

Haven't you heard? I'm also an NPC judge ;D!
J/k
We train at the same gym and train together once in a while.

Nga should have been with him; end of story. He'll know better next time. I also predict that he's gonna need to show them a little more size next time around after this. IMO, this was his one shot to win it on conditioning alone.

Guy in the middle!

that sucks so much for alex a he looked amazing 5 days out, but he fucked it up with his colour, sorry brother better luck next time :'(
-
Guy in the middle!
I predict Jose Raymond.......again!

My opinion: This one is a no-brainer. Jose Ramond will win unanimously. Guy looked very good (the guy in the middle) he dried out considerably from last night at weigh-ins and looked very good.
Sorry McFarland, Jose is the one on the left of the photo. ;)
-
the 1 on the left looks that much better than the other too.. will win for sure

Sorry, but the guy in the middle is the only one that makes me want to bodybuild there, placings be damned. 8)

Glad he could make you get the desire back. He won't win, sorry.

Yea I actually sent Palumbo a message and asked him what happened to Guy when I saw the weigh-in pics, but when I saw his pics from 2nite I had to go to the fridge and cut a piece of humble pie for myself. He looked like a differnet person.
-

Guy does look very good, and if he had the least bit of quad sweep he would look soooooo much better.
-
Jose Raymond looks like you could just as easily jump over him as run around him there. :P
-
Alex looks flat! ... flex mag pic's are really bad!!! bad angle, bad lighting .
-
OK bro I'm gonna break it down for you real simple like, no bullshit. Anybody wanna venture a guess as to who Matt T will pick? ;D
interesting but not necessarily true
-

Guy on the left...better thigh sweep...widest clavicles...tremendous lats...BUT not as big a name as the guy in the middle.
-

You're drunk. Jose Ramond is WAY bigger in the "name game" if you want to go that route. Guy is a relative newcomer who works with Palumbo and looked great.
-
Yeah this is gettin' close to that. OK, next up for discussion. What do you guys think of Alex onstage? Check out this other guy next to him. He's got Alex on upper body but Alex has him in the lowers. I haven't even finished making sure I've seen all the lightweight competitors yet but I already see this one here as an interesting comparison.
This other guy, placed first. I think I got 15. I was not judged, according to one of the judges I spoke with. My color, was simply ridiculous. In 25 years of judging he never had seen anything like it. My face was black, couldnt see any muscle seperation. I look flat, but still, The other guy ended up winning and i was last.
no excuses guys, I was told this and accept it now. I blew this thing on a tan.
-
Well put, Alex! "Learning" by personal experience and accepting it as such without excuses will only make you a better bodybuilder, athlete, and person.
For ATTUTUDE and EFFORT you get A+'s.
In the process you made a hell of a lot of new fans and good friends.
Have a good meal, hug your wife and daughter, thank those who really helped you through this and never lose Heart!

And there you have it!!

Now wait a minue, I don't know what the competitor in the middle's first name is, is it really "Guy?" Because I was just saying it like, "The guy in the middle!"
Yes, absolutely, Isaac, I know what you're saying regarding Jose taking first, "the guy" in the middle needs more size to win a Nationals class, I'm just so biased towards conditioning right now, it's not even a reflection of who should win and I realize that it's not just about who I like best. I liked Wolf and Dexter best at the Olympia but never made the argument that they should win. I don't know Jose but I surely know the name so I'm sure he's up for a card this time around looking like that.
If the middle dude's first name is really Guy then that's a trip. ;D

Very good physique. Unfortunately, the judges seem to usually care more about ripped glues than a good physique so he's got maybe a 1-10 chance of winning.

Brandon looks incredible there. Hey I've been meaning to ask, who is Brandon Curry, and who is Brandon Rey? Which one won his class at Junior Nationals this year?
-
Very true, it will be controversial no matter what happens.
But you are right, Putnam has him in the lower body big time, even his hamstring are better ( which peter has really brought up since the usa, along with his conditioning).
Come on now - look at Putnam's side shot and tell me who has the better set of wheels - from the front Putnam's conditioning is holding his own, BUT from the side, not even close in definition or in mass or shape for that matter with what Dixon has. To say he has Dixon in lower body big time is not correct. ???

Isn't Jose also a NATURAL?

Sorry to hear it Alex, but you did a great job just the same buddy!!
Great attitude, stay positive and get back in the gym............2008 will be here before you know it!!
-

He does, but you have to agree it's unlikely they'll let him win since he's not ripped to the bone (and has no gut).
-

Oh yeah, that's no comment at all pertaining to where he'll place, I haven't even looked at the others in that class yet. I just know that in a few more years (2? 3?) he could do some real damage as a pro looking like that. Ed's right. If not here, wherever his next showing is, he's probably gonna be going for the win.
-
Alex looked great pre comp(in the gym shots) but seemed to have blurred out a bit (upper body especially) during comp..must have been anxiety/stress.Too much cortisol being released into the system due to stress i guess.
Yes that is true.

Brandon Rey won the Jr. Nat. In the LHW class. Curry is bigger.

There is no way you got 15th, I don't care how bad your color was off.
