Title: MisterMagoo's 225 deadlift for reps: 2ND EDITION
Post by: MisterMagoo on December 27, 2007, 01:02:40 PM
okay, this is the LAST TIME i will ever do this. i nearly had a coronary this time around, so if anyone manages to top me then congrats. you win.

yes, i rested a little too long on the floor and wasted time, but still skated in under 3 minutes with time to spare. i have a feeling if i'd have done better if the time was upped to 5 minutes, but on the other hand i might not make it to the end.  :P

50. i have a thing about getting round numbers. if i'd done one more rep i'd have obligated myself to hitting 55 or 60. damn OCD.

well if you count my 1st attempt i'm in second with 30. ;D

otherwise, MattC got i think 23 reps, so he's in 2nd.

Seems like you had a lot more left in your muscles. If you increased by 20 reps from attempt 1 to 2, you could be able to improve even more during the next few weeks.

Zack,

That was impressive, but I'm not sure you followed the rules. RESTING IS ALLOWED IN THE TOP POSITION, not with the bar sitting on the floor. That's akin to racking the bar in a bench press contest. But 240 is the official arbiter, so I'll concede to his final decision.

From the Original Thread after MATTC sought clarification of the Rules:

1. Straight Bar.
2. Tap and Go is acceptable. Bar must not leave your hands. Resting in top position is legal. Continuous video only.
3. Youtube.com submissions only. If you can't figure out how to compress a 300mb video to fit Youtube's guidelines (100mb or less), perhaps 240 can help you with your technical proficiency.
4. By popular demand, the deadline is extended another month through January 11, 2008February 28, 2008! Additional prizes being added to the mix, including one-on-one telephone consultations with the Pros.
5. Good luck and get those videos up!

PS. Alex, get it done!

but wait, didn't mattc's video show him resting on the floor too?

anyway, debussey, my muscles had more in me but my system didn't. those last five just shattered me. i was on the brink of collapse at that point.

I haven't seen MattC's entry. Only Youtube entries are acceptable, not WMV videos that force me to delete episodes of BrazilBang to make room for guys in their underwear and pro-keds!

Dude, you'll get 60+ next time if you nail the relaxation in a standing position.

well the deadline's the 11th, so i guess if i take a week to recover i might consider shooting for it on the 10th. you have a point, though. if i work on being able to rest the bar on my thighs and lean back at the top, i could possibly take some of the tension off.

it'd be pretty rockin' to top 60, i'll admit.

i'm okay with the floor rest, if the other powers that be are in majority agreement!

that was hella impressive.  I put 225 on the bar yesterday and did 18 reps and stopped.  I might have had 2 or 3 more, but a lifetime of back disc problems flashed before my eyes and I stopped.

Nothing in the original post about not resting on the ground. That was a good lift.

I will enter this too, I think.  ;)

Rules:

- Post a link on Getbig.com to your Youtube video showing how many times you can deadlift 225 in 3 minutes or less.
- The video must be uncut and unedited from start to finish.
- Include your Getbig screen name somewhere in your video. Shout it, write it, or wear it!
- All Getbiggers are eligible to participate, including Blockhead, Squadfather and Special Ed.
- Contestants and/or Sissies may use wrist straps and weight belts without penalty.
- Each rep shall consist of the plates touching the ground and a full lockout.
- The Honorable 240orBust shall be the sole, official arbiter in the event of any discrepancies or complaints.
- Contest Deadline is Friday December 14, 2007.

1st Prize: $150 in MHP Supplements, Bodybuilding Video of Your Choice, and 3 minutes of BragTime (Open Mic) on Big Nation!
2nd Prize: Bodybuilding Video of Your Choice and 2 minutes of BragTime on Big Nation!
3rd Prize: Black MD t-shirt suitable as jerk mop and 1 minute of BragTime on Big Nation!

This is your chance to shut up the haters, prove your mettle and flame your enemies all in the course of your regular visit to the gym. And of course, for Adonis, his opportunity to back up his claim of epic strength and endurance.

Thanks to our unofficial sponsors: MHP, BodybuildingPro.com, and MD!!

Feel free to ask any questions or post links to your practice videos here!  Good luck!

dammit, i'm easily coerced into things normally, but to have gary busey's apostle telling me to is just unfair. looks like i've gotta try at least one more time.  :(

rob, seems like most are willing to put it in. realize that resting on the floor may make the set "easier", but it also robs you of time because you're likely to rest longer before getting back into position. and since we're talking about 3 minutes as opposed to 1 or 2 it seems fair.

Ed, since you're a lawyer you should be aware of loopholes.  It does state that resting in the top position is legal, but it says nothing about resting in the bottom position being ILLEGAL.  ;D  Although I would have failed since the bar left my hands.  I believe I got 24 in a row on film (one which was not filmed), followed by an additional illegal five and an illegal two I believe.

seems like it is. i'd imagine that since we're going for reps in a time period, it should be "do as many reps as you can without letting go".

if there was no time limit, then obviously we'd have to say no to resting on the floor because then i could sit for a full minute between reps and just do sets of 20.

Here's the deal...Zack was great but I don't think it was what most of us consider 50 reps.

We're not looking for 3 sets of 20 reps.

I think we can all agree that resting the bar on the floor (other than to adjust your grip) much like racking a squat or a bench ends the rep count.

The time limit of 3 minutes was to allow for (in a record breaking effort) 35 reps/minute at a controlled pace -- not for 15-60 second rest stops. As impressive as it may be, the winner shouldn't be able to bang out 30 reps in 60 seconds, rest for a minute and then do 30 more.

Zach already has a valid entry of 30 reps. Because no one else has entered, he's still our fearless leader.

Henceforth, RESTING SHALL ONLY BE PERMITTED AT THE TOP. Since no one else has entered no one else can bitch about the rules.

For all of you making claims about how many you (including you 240) or your 15-year old brother can do or speculating about your potential, STFU and videotape it! EVERYONE has a videocamera. They're built into your phone. They sell disposable ones at Walgreens and CVS. Use the old one from your sister's first gangbang in the basement. JUST DO IT!

Hey MrMagoogo these are my observations if you dont mind?

I counted 20 reps (whats the deal with you claiming you did 50/60?)
You proceed to do multimple sets, good workout
Why are you doing a too intense workout when you almost had a heart attack couple days ago? (tired of living perhaps?)
Adonis made a prank, if you guys dont like him, why honor his jokes? (perhaps you do like him)
Whats with the 5 pound plate a side for barbell rows in the background?

Well then Ed, in the spirit of promoting this competition I think someone should help me edit my entry so it is within the file size limitation for youtube:

http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/225deadlift3mins.AVI

My videographer missed the first rep, but I believe I got 21 or 23 reps there.  I can't remember since I haven't watched the clip for a while.  I got 30 in total but only through violation of the rules.

I feel that by the time the competition date arrives, I will be able to achieve at least 30 reps in accordance to the rules.  Possibly more but I find the biggest problem with holding the weight at the top position is a slight pulling sensation I feel in my biceps.  My grip is pretty good.

I need a video camera, g-string and a timer.

Where are the rules? Do I have to show my ugly mug? Or can I do my deadlifts with a plastic bag on my head?

Someone point me in the direction of these rules and a deadline. >:(

I urge everyone to enter Ed's contest.  I want to see how strong getbiggers really are.  I don't imagine very many would beat Zach_G85, but I would say a few would.

thanks man. and yeah, especially now that i may have to give it yet a third attempt.

and for the record, though i'm not arguing the decision not to count my 2nd try, there is a BIG difference between stopping a set and standing up and undoing the belt, and staying latched onto the bar bent over with your belt keeping you from getting a full breath of air while your legs remain tensed.

just sayin'. don't count it for the contest, but everyone who's trying to say i basically just did four sets can friggin' cram it. >:(

 ::)

Why would resting the bar on the floor be easier?

BTW, great effort Magoo. IMO, don't even bother.

I want clarification on the resting rule as well. I feel like I could get 80-100reps if we're allowed to rest for a few moments with the bar still in my hands on the ground.

*EDIT*

nevermind..i was thinking 5 minute time limit.. hell i had a damn game plan! That was SICK lifting magoo..

hey didn't big steve mac get credit for 7 deads with 700 in one set even in the video he stopped at the bottom of the 6th and rested for a good 20 seconds before the next pull? Those that say yes then can't deny that magoo got 50 reps. Dear sweet jesus!

I agree. Makes it harder if anything. The hard part is to get the bar moving. Which is why 'touch and go' deads are easier than pulling from dead stop.

As long as you dont take a knee, resting on the floor is harder IMO. If I stay down too long my back and hams get very stiff and sore. Look at powerlifters who grab the bar and immediately GO, there is a reason why.

Nice lifts Magoo! Only suggestion would be to tap the floor on every rep, but I would still count the 50. 8)

bump for magoo being the man.. haha..

I tried this today (got a video) and tried to see how many I could get in a minute with wessel's rules for strongman comps just for kicks..and I got 40. So I'm going ot try and find a pace that'll get me through at least TWO minutes worth of deads.

Also got a vid of good mornings with 315 for a set of 10!  ;D  I'll be trying to post those up for sure tomorrow night!

good work, man. i'm tellin' you, once you cross the minute barrier it's a whole different ballgame. even with the extra rest. i got 30 in a minute that first go, and i'm not sure i could have even added another 10 if i waited a 2nd minute. but apparently i should try.

this has been a great little variation after spending too many weeks doing nothing but heavy singles.

Speaking of which, I would like to put these rumours about Zach being gay or bi to rest.

I'll give you a little bit of history: Tom Prince was getting a lot of flak on musclemayhem years ago for being homosexual after his COLT pictures were shown on the board.  With that, Zach chimed in and announced himself as being bisexual in order to get the heat off Tom and put it on him.  He knew he had enough credibility on the boards to bail Tom out in that instance.

So please stop calling him Mr. Man Goo and shit.

Very true Zach, it is no one's business but your own.  That said, I just don't like misconceptions going around the board.  You helped out a buddy (TP) on mayhem a few years ago and it is still alive to haunt you and that's not fair bro.  Fact is, you are as straight as can be.  But from now on, I will only bring it up when someone else mentions it.

I don't think Magoo needs help on a message board, its not real life and he is not in mortal danger. If he likes boys as well as girls i'm sure he can cope with people calling him gay here and there.

Don't take this place so seriously!

you don't get it do u ?...your problem or embarrasemnt should I say is that I'm clean and have been clean for a few years...I was doing a bit of dbol during those videos..not 2 grams..4-5 weeks of d-bol...so before u talk smack...go take dbol for 4 weeks....get under 225 kg , and see how u fare. and stop with the natural crap. I hate that more than anything. U deadlift 230-240 kg naturally...u must be a moron to think anyone buys that ...maybe a vouple of other " so called nattys "

::)

while a 515 deadlift is firmly in the "not bad" category, if you think i can't possibly be natural and lifting it that would explain why you think "i'm clean" means "running dbol for 4-5 weeks". there are drug-free lifters kicking the shit out of me in all three lifts.

all i've got in my medicine cabinet is a little benadryl and some day-quil. the only things i've bought to help in the gym is an no2 and a creatine supp. i don't have a problem with anyone who chooses to take gear, but if you're going to start acting the ass, expect me to point it out.

He attacked mesomorph when he posted vids of his 140 lb db presses.. Sevastese has a nasty habit of exploding with jealousy.

jealous on magoo ?  :D

Why would he not be? Magoo is naturally stronger than a juiced SpermaTaste, and Magoos intellect is superior to what Spermataste could ever hope to attain. Magoo also lives in a more affluent country than SpermaTaste.

if you used enough gear that doing dbol for a month was "clean" for you and didn't have much to show for it, you'd be a jealous bastard too. he's obviously one of those guys who never got above a 225 bench before gearing up and so whenever he sees someone else doing it, convinces himself that they're on too. ::)

Not after he is killed by Magoos assassin via HCN.

I'm just messing with Magoo...she lifts quite heavy actually and I believe she would do very well in powerlifting. Although I do not know what she benches or squats I still think she is quite strong!
