Debussey does not earn money. Debussey = lives in its parents basement, is unemployed, have no education, no plans for education. Debussey plays PS2 all day long, while eating prozac + chips to ease off the depression.

how did you get started? does BBPro.com bring in teh big bucks?

It did between 2004-2006 - for a student at least.  It has dropped dramatically since then (about half).  BBPro was the first website I designed, but I have made many others since then.  It still makes enough to pay my bills - given that my bills only work out to about $1,500 a month.  But some website projects can go for upwards of $3,000 and even if I get one per month, I am doing very well.  In addition, I work at some clubs for fun which is good for another few thousand a year.  I am also a professional student and get another few thousand a year above and beyond my school expenses.  Also, traveling to bodybuilding contests is tax deductible for me, and BB.com gives me all my supplements free for review.

All and all I am comfortable and happy where I am, but my goal in life is to make as much money as possible.  Money buys everything.  Example:

https://secure.pardonservicescanada.com/apply/service_info.aspx

So you can just buy a criminal record away?  ::)

How immoral is a system where protecting society is a capitalist venture?  If you have enough money, you basically have the right to murder someone or molest a child!  OJ is proof of that.  Billionaires basically do not get charged ever.  But now that I know how the game is played, I will damn well play it and I will allow no one to mess with my survival (money).

Thanks, Squad!  Get this - video sales dropped so much due to youtube (90%) that my supplier stopped selling them and pointed me in the direction of a new supplier.  I will still review the occasional DVD, but I need to go where the money is, and that is in supplement reviews, plus they are helpful to visitors also.

BB.com is an absolute goliath in the bodybuilding world - and if you can't beat them, join them.  I hope to do a million a year in sales for them within five years, and I think that is doable since they are my only focus right now.

I used to think $ was what life was all about.  I worked til 4 am every day, slept til 10, hung out with the woman for a few hours, then worked from 7 or 8 pm on every night.

The money was incredible.  But then I had a baby and realized that work is what you do to be able to do fun things with, and provide for, your family.  I work 10 hours a day still, broken up throughout the day, but it's not 15 or 16 hours like it used to be.

Life's about making enough $ to relax and have fun with those you love.

Nope. The school I went to did not offer that degree. I am sure if I applied somewhere, I might of been accepted. Actually, I applied to St Johns University and they have an MA in general/experimental psychology, but I chose Adelphi University becasue they are heavily immersed in Psychoanalytic theory. Plus, I am more a clinical practicioner than I am a research scientist, so the Masters of Science would of been pretty boring to me lol :). I do not mind research, but I like the clinical aspect more :)

Actually, I wound up getting my Masters thesis published under my professor and her work. In march, I am going to Chicago to present my finding at the "Society for Research on Adolescence." GRRR, I hate research, but I am sure I will cope fine :)

Would you say a Ph.D in clinical psychology is the best possible Ph.D to get in Psychology, as opposed to a Ph.D in Psychological Sciences following the M.Sc route?  I never looked at these choices from an employment perspective because I don't ever expect to work a job again, but it's nice to have options open.

Sounds like you are doing what you love and doing well. I have a question, are you the guy that told me on MSN that making 50 dollars a day is a good living where you are? No flame, I just don't remember if it was you or not. Also, if that was you, where do you live in Canada that the price of living is so low?

In the end man, it doesn't even matter. You can get a PhD in applied developmental psychology, get respecialized in clinical training, take your boards and become a clinical practicioner. I know someone who did that. I do not think one is better than the other. It depends what your goals are.

Since I am more interested in the clinical aspects as opposed to the research side, I chose a school that focuses more on clinical than becoming a researcher. Though, I get training in both, more of an emphasis on the clinical aspect of psychology.

Even if you go for the PhD in psychological sciences, you have to focus on a specific topic. You can focus on "clinical science" which leads to licensure and thats all that matters. If you like research more, you can focus on cognition and/or neuroscience, developmental psychology or quantitative methods and evaluation, as welll as many others. Depends what areas interest you. And as long as the clinical program is APA approved, its all good :)

I plan to focus on marriage and family therapy and substance abuse.

$50 isn't a "good" living, meaning living large or anything.  I'm saying that where I am from, $50 a day will easily cover all my expenses:

- $600 (mortgage, home expenses, for a four bedroom, two bathroom house, suitable for a family of five)
- $600 food bill (buys a perfectly adequate bodybuilding diet)
- $200 gas
- $100 car insurance
- $95 (land line, cell phone, internet)

Then I have miscellaneous expenses like car repairs and gym membership and so on.

I live like a miser and literally do not spend more than $500 a year on myself above and beyond my base expenses.  Everything else is saved or reinvested into my web design business.

I am from Northwestern Ontario and with the closure of several mills, people are poor here.  It is routine for some of my friends to literally not have the money to go to the movies on cheap night or catch the bus.  So when I can build a FLASH based website for easily $1,000 or more and do it in a weekend, that is a lot of money around here.

Socialism is currently helping Thunder Bay, but it was socialist overhead (union wages and the like) which caused the closure of mills to begin with.  Usually MORE socialism is never the answer, but the welfare state of my city is at least preventing people from starving (although it got them there to begin with).

DAMN!!! I currently reside in the NY area and EVERYTHING is expensive here :(

It should be noted that I spend basically nothing on myself.  I am keenly aware that money makes more money so I would rather save my money for a possible future business plan (flipping houses for instance) than be materialistic.  Another reason why I don't spend a lot of money on myself is because I just have a pleasant and simple existence.  Since I don't need to work and can just go to school and hang out with my friends all the time, I am seldom stressed out which would require a great expenditure to make up for that and make me feel better.  Also, I think it is possibly in my DNA to be a miser.  If not, it is definitely environmental, following in the footsteps of my parents and grandparents who never spent anything on themselves.

PS - thanks for the info on post grad work.

That makes sense and like I said I wasn't even positive it was you who had said that, you know how those MSN group convos get. It seems you are doing what you love to do and that is more than most people can say. I know your dollar is different(stronger now actually :o) than ours, but I wish I could get these deals-

- $95 (land line, cell phone, internet)

My two cells are 115$, cable and internet150$, home phone 60$. :(

Also, are you escrowed? A 600 dollar mortgage is awfully rare.

Many wealthy people developed the habits of spending little on themselves early in their lives. Good going Max! :)

I agree. I do not need much to survive and am not into materialistic stuff. I consider myself a minimalist :)

The house I described above cost $109,000 and is very comfortable.  In Calgary, the same house would probably cost around $240,000 if you got it for a great price.  Thunder Bay is losing 11 young people a day and real estate has gone way down.  My mortgage interest rate was also very low.  A land line in Thunder Bay is $25 and a cell phone is $25 for a basic plan including 100 daytime minutes and free evening and weekends.  Call display and other features are usually $3 extra per month each.  Internet is $38 a month and I also get bundling discounts for having all my services provided by TBAYTEL.  Everything is cheap here.  The winter here has been unusually mild and even heating costs are low now thanks to that.  To pursue my Ph.D costs me nothing thanks to graduate assistantships and scholarships and I can actually even bank a little money by going to school, providing that I work for the school 10 hours each week.

So, you are going for your PhD now or you plan on it?

I did a grauate assistanship when I was in my Masters program. I was an assistant professor and had to help teach classes, grade papers, etc.  They gave me around 3K for the semester. Not bad.

Government funding basically pays for my school and then some.  Health care is provided by the government.  I am still not a fan of socialism, but I can't deny it has benefited me personally, but that is a selfish reason to endorse it.

I will be pursuing my Ph.D unless something comes up.  I will definitely be completing my Master's degree, and I do hope to do a Ph.D too even though it is another four years.  I just haven't decided which Ph.D program yet, because as of 2009, Lakehead will offer numerous Ph.D's in Psychology, so I will decide on which one later.

What are you specifically getting your MA in?

The PhD in clinical feels like it takes forever. Four years of classes, dissertation, one year internship in a psychiatric hospital and finally take your boards to become licenced :(...I have already been in school for 7 or 8 years (not including the PhD) :(...After all this is done, I plan to go back for my MA in philosophy :)

They had an information booth set up in the school last week and a professor was telling me all about new programs starting in 2009.  My M.Sc is in experimental psychology and with the expansion of the Psychology department at the school I will wait to see what's available in 2009.  The university just got a med school and I've heard news about a law school, so that is very exciting for the community since the university is one of the better things around for the local economy.

Hmmm, interesting. I think the best bet is the PhD in clinical psychology, because you can do both research and clincal practice. If you get a PhD in a pure research oriented field, like cognitive psych or social/personality psych, you are stuck with mainly doing research since you are not licensed. The clinical allows you to do both. Also, with the clinical, you can eventually choose one specific field and get more specialized training in that area. For me, its marriage/family therapy and substance abuse.

ph.d. programs pay better, the tuition is waived and, depending on a program and location, you get anywhere from 11K to 19K per academic year for up to 5 years, and of course you can still earn extra money during summers.

Well, I am in a PhD program in the NY area and unfortunately, many schools in NY do not pay that much for an assistantship. In other states, you are correct, but for some reason not like that in NY :(...you get some money, but it definitely does not cover your whole tuition and definitely does not get waived lolz..I will be in debt forever

Wow...

I live in a low rent and poor community.  But there is a paper mill opening soon which should help.  It's great for someone like me who makes money outside of the community but gets to take advantage of the low cost of living.

I will post details of the house on here soon.  I just can't remember all of them off the top of my head.  The basement is finished.

Holy fuck, where do you live?

NY, Long Island is an expensive place to live at and I do not even think a place like that would go for 2 million. Though, it might. Maybe 1 or 1.5 million. I obviously do not live in a place like this lol
potomac, maryland next to sargent shriver.   i'm a getbig blue blood   lol

My parents live in nyc queens and they have a house with three floors and the house just got appraised at around 600K. Since, Long Island has better schools, parks, facilities, etc, the prices on houses get jacked way up!!!

How much does a decent four bedroom, two bathroom house cost where you are from?  The cost is well over double in Calgary and I'm not sure what it would be in other places.

About $900k on up in Huntington Beach. Where I live in Sunset Beach about $3.5 - $10mil

Damn, a $600 mortgage? Even to rent a room around here $600 is rare. Honestly I wish I had that decipline to almost mise my money. I was always a big thinker and dreamer. I like nice things and try to give the best for my family on what I make. But as a result of my "big dreaming", unfortunatly I have a $6800 house payment, a two car payments, one for 450.00 and another for $700.00 private school for my son, health insurance, etc, etc, etc.

And people wonder why I work 12-14 hrs per day :-\

About $900k on up in Huntington Beach. Where I live in Sunset Beach about $3.5 - $10mil

That sums up exactly why my cost of living is so low - my monthly housing payments are so small.  You could buy a mansion here for under a million dollars.  If possible, I will take some photos of one of my friends' houses and it was well under one million.

sorry... i force myself to avoid the politics board...

Perhaps he is a liberal, who supports Bush because he loves the tax break?

Rich people are going to feel some pain when a Dem gets back in.  Bush doubled our national debt from 4.5 tril when he took over, to 9 tril, in just 7 years.  Whoever takes over is going to have to cut spending (which kills the DOW) and cut tax breaks for rich.

true... the 'wealthy' will just shift money around to compensate.  invest in new things and cash in on the opportunities that arise as a result of the change.

but the 'rich' - the folks who have a lot of $ but a lot of bills, and couldn't survive 6 months if their income stopped tomorrow - they will be hit hard.

Yes, actually we closed in late November, the place was offered to me by my landlord, I had already lived in it for 4 years, it's 2 units, upper and lower, my landlords lived in the top unit. They asked me first before they put it on the market, since I never was late with rent, at times payed a few months in advance they figured I would have been a good buyer. My credit was flawed from my divorce, but pretty much cleaned it up, they applied a portion of my rents for the past 4 years to my down payment and I came up with more, that brought my payment within 30% of my income to qualify, even though it's a big payment, it's within my income qualifications and really not that bad for what I got.

We are going to remodel and rent the other unit out, that will cut may payment almost in half.

good for you.  I thought I remember you mentioning that it was multiple units.

btw - if you're going to make generalizations about repubs vs. dems you should acknowledge that the republicans are usually the white collar criminals and the dems, by and large tend to be middle class wage earners (i.e paid on a W-2 and live paycheck to paycheck).

The current republican administration is responsible increasing the size of the government and the federal budget to levels never seen under a democratic administration.  On top of that they've granted hundreds of billions of $$$ is COST PLUS - NO BID CONTRACTS which is insane by anyones measure.

Imagine - someone hires you to do some job and intead of requiring you to stay on budget or even better incentivizing you to come in under budget they tell you don't worry about the cost and in fact structure it in such a way that the higher the cost the more $$$ of profit you make.    Also, the contract is given to you without putting it out to bid to other vendors.   It's fucking insane and it's your money and my money that's being wasted (and devalued).

What you have described there is a time and materials arrangement.  Under a cost plus contract, the longer it takes to do the job, the lower the hourly profit since the "plus" is a fixed amount.

is that the same with govt. contracts with open ended commitments.  I'm talking specifically about military contractors.  I'm not an expert on this stuff so all I know is what I read on the internet, media, etc..

I'm pretty sure there are "cost plus" contracts where the profit is proportional to the expense.  This is why the contractor has no reason to prevent waste

How much can you make as a clinic psychologist, Phd in the US per year? Also opposed to MDs offering psychotherapy?
In Germany it really sucks, not worth all the years... I left clinical psychology and focused on business psychology and will hopefully get my master within the next two months and then start a job in an HR department of a global player. Not bad, but I don't get rich this way either...

My job isn't as exciting as ER. The early years were more realisitc before the episodes with helicopters crashing into the hospital. :-X

Is the part about 36 hor shifts with damn near no sleep realistic? If so, then that's scarey.

I'm afraid that part is realisitc. I think 39 is my record. My current job isn't too busy so i get plenty of sleep. I might even start trying to "GETBIG" this year. My GF goes to the gym 4/5 days a week. I didn't even average 1/month on 2007. Pathetic!

Epic buying a house at the absolute worst time in 30 years...

unless you live in select areas with unique opportunity, most should avoid buying anything until the 2009 war-end rock-bottom hits.  Then you'll have companies swooping in and buying all these defunct places at pennies on the dollar.

There aren't many honst real estate folks these days.  "Now is the time to buy!" I hear that crap every week. I've been calling BS on it for 2 years and I'll call bs for another 18 months.

@SF1900:

Depends on the state, and if it offers license for a masters level, so you can practice as a assitant, so you need to rethink getting a PhD/PsyD, if the APA continues it's steamrolling on requiring licensure to only PhD/PsyD.

The MD level of psychiatry is a dying proffession, sad to say. Still one of the lowest paid of ALL MDs.

Clinical psyc in the US is of course a growing field, your looking at with a masters 59 + easy, depending on state, if you want to practice with a Masters and move to say New Mexico, or Louisiana, and have all the fringe benefits as a Doctor, including some of the pay.

With a PSyD PhD your looking at 75k +.

But a masters in business psychology offers about the same amount , with oppurtunity for advancement over here in the US

I will definitely continue until I get my Ph.D providing that the funding is there and my website continues to make the paltry 20K per year I need to survive or more.  Unless something comes up which would disrupt that, that is what i plan on doing.  If I can pursue a high level of education debt free, then that is what I want to do.

Supposedly Thunder Bay's number of millionaires per capita is one of the highest in Canada.  I think that is because wealth is very top heavy here.  It's much like a kingdom where the king has all the wealth over the peasants.  I actually think I can make more money here than any other city in the country; take rental investments for instance.  The poorer a community is, the more likely they are to rent rather than buy.  And property is cheap, but rent is relatively high so the investment is a sound one.  I honestly believe that in time I will be one of the prominent millionaires in my community and I think (and this is stretching a little I know) that I can actually do a lot to promote the city within the province and the country once I get to that point.

Market a product that's in high demand?

Or go to school and study your ass off and make sure to choose a major with promise. That's my plan, as I'm certainly not a business genius with very original ideas. But what I've learned is that most of the time to make real money, you must actually have some in the first place; to put forth your plans. That's why it's prudent to invest in an education from a good school. Doesn't have to be Ivy league or even a yuppie school like NYU, but good rated.

In finland i think you can't really make a living flying "taxi flights" with small planes, don't know if it's a different situation in states. Of course one option is to become a flight instructor.

But the responsibility is not really a thing to be concerned about too much. People often ask me how can i take the responsibility of having 60+ passengers lives "in my hands". But then again, i don't want to get killed myself, so basically i don't think about the passengers THAT much, they just follow along, if you know what i mean. Also, you're not alone in the cockpit, and when you start as a first officer, the captain is the one who has the full responsibility of what ever happens in / to the plane :)

I found it relatively easy, but not as easy as I thought and it took 18 months before I was making a livable income on it and that was maintained for quite some time, until things started to fall a little over a year ago.  The reason why I got started is because a friend's brother started the www.musclesurf.com website and claimed to be making $70,000 a year on it.  I never made quite that much on my bodybuilding website alone, but it was doing very well until last year.

Post by: 24KT on January 15, 2008, 12:41:10 AM

All and all I am comfortable and happy where I am, but my goal in life is to make as much money as possible.  Money buys everything. But now that I know how the game is played, I will damn well play it and I will allow no one to mess with my survival (money).

Absolutely!!! With money one has options and choices. Without it, you have no choices.

Life's about making enough $ to do what you want to do, ...when you want to do it, ...whether that's having enough to provide for yourself and your family, ...or having enough to make a difference in the world.

That's why I do what I do. I provide people an opportunity to impact their lives whichever way they choose, ...whether it be to make an extra $500 - $1000 a month, ...to own a home instead of renting, ...or to allow a spouse to stay home and not have to go to work, ...or be able to send their children to private schools instead of public schools, ...pay for a university education, ...be able to retire from the rat race, ...or to impact the lives of others by building schools or providing communities with access to fresh water where they didn't have it before.

Many people look down on those who want to be tremendously wealthy, because you can only wear 1 pair of pants at a time, ...but with great wealth comes the ability to accomplish many things. One of my colleagues from Ohio has been able to commit more time to, and to fund her own charitable causes, building wells in Uganda. Another one of my colleagues (a car salesman from Alberta Canada) has been able to develop a charitable foundation that he's been able to fund which digs wells in Kenya. My own sponsor in this business (a stay at home Mom from California with a 2yr. old boy), achieved enough success within her first year, that she was able to retire her husband (a physician of 22 yrs) as well as build two schools, one in Thailand, and the other in Western Samoa. They would never have been able to accomplish these things without wealth.

I provide people with the opportunity to achieve their dreams, whatever those dreams are, and the vehicle we use to do that is an environmental product, that reduces tail pipe pollution, protects our engines, increases our mileage, and save us money on our fuel costs.

Fuel is something the entire world uses. If we want to go from Point A to Point B, it requires fuel. The only question is: how much do we want to pay to get there? By providing people with an effective product that reduces pollution, one that would effectively increase our fuel costs if we didn't use it, we have built in repeat business. Repeat business that continues to pay over & over again. By increasing our miles per gallon, travelling further on the same amount of fuel, we reduce our consumption, and as nations, ultimately reduce our dependance on foreign oil.

We have the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to this product and are already shipping to over 229 countries & territories around the world. Through a seamless compensation plan, we provide people with a ground floor opportunity to develop a residual income from all over the world, one that literally can enable you to make money while you sleep.

The timing in the economy has never been better, ...people need to make money.
The timing in the environment has never been better, ...a real solution to global vehicularly caused pollution.
The timing in the history of burning fossil fuels on this planet has never been better, ...oil reached $100 barrel.
The timing in the company has never been better, ...offices and distribution facilities in place all over the planet.

Try to pick up a newspaper or magazine, turn on the TV set, and you will see this is a concern for the entire planet.
We have a solution to the pollution, relief from the pain at the pump, and an unprecedented global opportunity.

I never made quite that much on my bodybuilding website alone, but it was doing very well until last year.

how much work is it running a website like that? what happens when someone orders something? you said it was 3rd party and no stock etc what do you do?... I'm really interested in this :)

The majority of my income is currently made from running Caliber Fitness Solutions which I've owned and operated since 2001.  Its now a full time gig ever since I was laid off from Alltel in August.

Everything I do is the same except I now spend more time with it.  The bulk of the business is selling nutritional supplements and exercise equipment on my website as well as Ebay and Amazon.  In addition, I do nutritional consulting via email or phone and personal training at people's homes on occassion.  I make some money from affiliate sales like Matt C but also I get paid for referrals from a number of companies from Chiropractors to Anti-Aging Clinics.  They don't pay much but its good for the bills.

As far as the Pre-Paid Legal business, it has dropped off significantly ever since I moved to a rural area but once I have time to do better advertising, it should pick up but until then I don't really count the income from it.

As far as Important Fitness Equipment is concerned, I decided not to complete the transaction as the company did not have any standing product as it claimed.  It was basically sending orders through Amazon.  So I went ahead and redesigned my online store at www.caliberfitness.com/proshop.  I need to complete a heading image and that will be it.  I will problably have 240 take care of it.  Onlyme is bitter because his franchise idea is not going well as he thought.  He still has that big gym he's building but that's it

First person sent a bad check, second person didn't even pay at all and Ebay issued a strike against him.  But I'm glad you pointed it out because it shows that I do great business and I take care of my customers

When it comes to whether you do good business or not, Ebay airs all of it out openly so you have to do a great job and sell great products.  Its why my feedback is 99.4%.  Just imagine if Walmart or Kmart were selling
