McCain today in Ohio: US presence in iraq to be ending "soon", and that Iraqi forces will be used to manage the insurgency.
This directly contradicts his statement that we'll be there a hundred years.
He just made the statement, so it's not news yet, no telling if it will be.

Is he changing positions on US invovlement in iraq?
If your answer is NO, then explain the differing statements he's made. Big difference there. One thing I do like about him is the consistency (except with the tax cuts). But "soon" was the exact word he used.
PS 240 still predicts an october declaration of "mission accomplished" to make the war a non-issue, or even repub advantage, in the general election. I've said this for 6 months now and still believe it.

I'm no McCain fan, but this has been explained a hundred times if you (not you personally, just people in general) get your news somewhere other than FOX or the New York Times. Those biased sources fu*k it up for anyone wanting to get an acfurate view of anything!

The US has set up permanent bases in the region.
The US has ensured the dollar will still remain relevant.
The cost has been 5 trillion dollars, borrowed from China mostly.
The gain? Well, iraq alone has $50 to 75 trill worth of saleable oil. Caspian oil is 10 at worst and estimated to be more.
The bush admin did a necessary thing. They said in 2000 they'd do it - they wrote the PNAC document (cheney, Rummy, Jeb, wolfy, bolton and others) detailing plans to control arabian oil and positioning. Then they did it - exactly as they said they would.
Problem now is that some Americans (rich ones) have been getting fat and living large off the tax cuts for the wealthy, and a dem will bring that back to earth.

but if you just took your eyes off your own greedy wallet and started to look around, you would notice that everybody is not as fortunate as you are. But you problaby have the way of thinking "It's their own fault, everybody must stand on their own". If thats the case then I feel sorry for you and those around you.
Speakin of the healthcare btw, no system is perfect but with universal healthcare the whole point is that NOONE gets left behind. It might take a bit longer to get treatment than a rich american with a private doctor, but still you get healthcare for FREE which I belive ends up saving more lives than taking when comparing to your system. Oh and LOL, isn't there like 50 million americans that doesn't have a health insurance? Sounds like a great result for your (the american) way of dealing with things. Amazing, you just demonstrated my whole point. You only care about the money in your pocket. But the thing is, HIGH TAXES DO NOT KILL YOUR PERSONAL ECONOMY once the nation has adjusted to it. The country I live has one of the worlds highest taxes and it WORKS. People still get money for working and although with tragic exceptions, everyone has money to feed themselves and live in a clean and safe enviroment. We also have a huge immigration "problem" with people coming here and living off our welfare system. But you know what? I can still with my below average job pay for rent, food, hobbies and travels (with a very good marginal) and at the same time pay for taxes that makes sure that every citizen can be kept off hunger and poverty even though they are part of any those groups you just mentioned. Oh and if you were wondering, rich people are still rich in this country.

Not only do we not need universal health care, we should be working to eliminate health insurance as well. Why have a middle man between you and your doctor with their hand in the pot? Make medical care a competitive business, just like any other business. This would greatly reduce health care costs and improve wages as well. Your employer usually pays a huge amount of your health insurance premium.

Amazing, you just demonstrated my whole point. You only care about the money in your pocket. But the thing is, HIGH TAXES DO NOT KILL YOUR PERSONAL ECONOMY once the nation has adjusted to it. The country I live has one of the worlds highest taxes and it WORKS. People still get money for working and although with tragic exceptions, everyone has money to feed themselves and live in a clean and safe enviroment. We also have a huge immigration "problem" with people coming here and living off our welfare system. But you know what? I can still with my below average job pay for rent, food, hobbies and travels (with a very good marginal) and at the same time pay for taxes that makes sure that every citizen can be kept off hunger and poverty even though they are part of any those groups you just mentioned. Oh and if you were wondering, rich people are still rich in this country.

My point is that the United States is one of the last truely merit based countries in the world despite what people may say or think. You get what you put into life in the US. Maybe blacks and hispanics get a little more due to preferential treatment, but everyone who's sucessful or earns a living has earned it. It isn't the same in Europe where you can suck off tax payer money without doing an honest day's work. It isn't like some african or mideastern shithole where your daddy's name means all. Well this is something that america problaby will struggle with for a veeeeery long time. I think most of that "trash" you're speaking of is a direct byproduct of the american society and it's problaby the society itself that prevents it from changing, not the intiative if you understand what I mean.
In my country we also have that type of trash but not nearly the amounts of % you do. Problaby because we have beem socialized for so long now that the whole system has been rebuilt from the ground up and these type of people is getting more rare.
